I do appreciate the work you put into this movie and it definitely looks well made. However I really don't like the idea of glitching the medallions into your inventory, especially since it's really difficult to tell when you actually receive them. In my opinion the point of having a category like "all dungeons" or "all medallions" would be to show off more game content, like traveling to each dungeon and beating its boss, instead of just skipping them and completing the game right away. To get all medallions just by manipulating game memory kinda defeats the purpose of having that category in the first place. All you're doing is collecting items that aren't even necessary to complete the game if you're just going to wrong warp to the credits. I would much rather have an all medallions run that defeats Ganon and ends the game normally and saving the credits warp for a "game end glitch" branch. A well made movie overall, but the goal choice just isn't that exciting. Voting Meh. Edit: clarified on some points.

First, at 1:53, you drop down and toast a skeleton before inverting and coming back up. Wouldn't it be faster to just invert and ignore the skeleton altogether?
that skeleton will cause lag if it's still on screen because we encounter the two other enemies afterwards, if it didn't then yes it could save time.
c-square wrote:
Second, in the second level you end with one health left over, yet there were numerous times in the level where you toasted an enemy and inverted instead of taking the damage to speed up the inversion. Is there an additional damage you could take in the level to save time?
No. You have to take damage in a specific position to do the inverse skip properly. And it can end up being slower overall due to more lag. So if we dont do the inverse skip, it's either for one of those reasons

Jimmie1717 did some more work and was able to save an additional 125 frames, bringing the final time to 20:24. the submission text has been updated to show the new changes as well as a brand new encode. here's the new movie file: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47098645027172139

Didnt see a topic for this game yet so I'd thought I'd make one. There has been a recent glitch discovered. In sid's workbench, the game checks to see if woody is standing on the ground AND is facing right. If he isnt then Sid doesn't set woody on fire. However both Sid cutscenes have to happen before you can finish the level. So it's not like we can completely skip them. Enmet did a side by side comparison of what it could look like. Although he had invincibly on, it could save quite a bit of time. Link to video Edit: should also note that this only works in the US version. And the Genesis version actually patched it where sid can set you on fire on the right. So this only works on the SNES US version.

Excellent improvements. I see that you definitely made fixes in the places I mentioned in your previous submission. You even made the boss fights much more entertaining instead of just standing around. It adds SO MUCH more to the overall movie. Giving this a big YES vote.

Welcome back! It's always nice to see older runners return! I really like the improvements here, the damage boosts really help speed up this slow paced game. Definitely voting yes.

I never really saw the appeal Walkathons had. I saw them more as just a movie where you purposely go slow and that was it. Now after watching this walkathon, I'm starting to really see the appeal. Mario instead of bouncing at top speed and skipping out on enemies now has the chance to hit every one of them without wasting time, due to him taking his time. Bouncing on enemies is one of the most satisfying things to watch in these kinds of games, so the more there are, the more entertaining. In addition, you really get a better view of some of the tight corner cuts with jumping on and off platforms. It almost goes unnoticed in a normal movie as it's too fast to really see. But here, you can see it clearly, and appreciate the movement more. Finally, some jumps that seem too wide to make without running speed can actually be made with the right timing. Kinda like how in MegaMan when you do those hops onto other platforms far apart from eachother, it's all very tight and satisfying to watch. Overall, this movie has changed how I view the walkathon category and I definitely see the appeal for it now. There's so much more to them than just simply going slower on purpose. I hope a more optimized run of this game gets submitted in the near future, as I think it would be recieved pretty well.

So I played around a bit and found some improvements. 1. I was able to save 4 frames on the first level by jumping differently. by landing on a downward slope, I was able to minimize Chester's bounce to only last about 2 frames, then lowering my bounce time on the last crab. jumping on it is required to get that map. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/46833070186894443 2. second level you can release the run button mid-air to prevent Chester from skidding before he jumps. saved about 3 frames. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/46833079500019581 3. in unclear water, you can do a short bounce on the last gator, then one on the snake, and finish the level faster since you dont have to halt when you land. even though Chester's victory animation doesnt play until he hits the ground, the level will still end as if it did end. 14 frames saved. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/46833085397366458 every one of these movies desyncs after the level is completed by the way. that was as far as I was willing to look through. I really do like what you've done so far and I hope these improvements can help.

both the top and bottom of the balloon, im not sure if the string itself is part of the hitbox though.

no, the hitbox at the end of the level is in the middle, so you wouldn't be able to hit it by clipping through the wall.

Nice work on this one, Moth. The fact that you can walk on thin air on the bridges is pretty amusing. As for the rest of the game though, it's too repetitive for my tastes. Meh vote.

So in Mickey Mania for SNES, RTA runners will use Normal as the main difficulty setting. The only difference between easy and normal is the continues you start out with. In hard mode, the only difference is it removes checkpoints. and afaik, there's no useful death abuses that could save time. The checkpoints also dont slow down the run time in any way and the only reason it would be uses in RTA would be for safety. My question is since the only difference between normal and hard is the absence of checkpoints, would it still be required that I set the movie to play on hard mode? Edit: actually, Easy mode ends after a certain world, so it would be more ideal to do either normal or hard to show off the rest of the game.

Seeing that this would lead to a huge time-save, could you look into reproducing this in a TAS?
I've tried to figure out how to reproduce it. had no luck so far. it seems to be one of those specific condition glitches that would require hours if not months of trial and error to figure it out. I believe it's due to how damage works in this game. There's times when barbie takes damage from an object and the game wont pause like it normally would, and there's times when you take damage and the game will still hault, but would be shorter than when getting hit normally. this glitch I do believe is one of those rare cases where you get hit in the most specific way possible that the game doesnt know what to do. even looking at the video you'll notice that barbie's health depletes by one unit for a few frames, then immediately refills. so whatever happened has something to do with the way damage works in this game. I will still attempt to reproduce it sooner or later, but I've had no luck as of now.

I think it's worth mentioning that the ROM the author used is a "patched" version of the original bootleg. As far as we know, all it fixes is the grammar mistakes in the storyline portion. trying to find a working rom of the original bootleg has been harder to find then I'm willing to admit. almost every file I could find either wasnt the right version or just didnt work on either Bizhawk or FCEUX. also interestingly enough, this ROM only works on FCEUX. Trying to load it into bizhawk just leaves a blank green screen. this is when I try using both NESHawk and QuickNES.

normally I can select all the frames between the currently selected frame and one I click on when I hold Shift in TAStudio, but it doesnt work on 2.2.2 simply dragging the mouse over frames to highlight them still works though, but the shift hotkey doesnt work. Edit: I feel stupid now, I kept clicking on the cursor box of the frame instead of the frame number itself.

I would like to suggest this movie for stars: [3531] GBA Kao the Kangaroo by TASeditor in 14:12.30 the run is very fast pace and features some insane movements. being able to clip into platforms and wacking them to move forward is a pretty unique strat I've seen. not only that, but there's a few parts where the Char goes completely off screen and shows up on the opposite end due to the camera not following him correctly. to add, the damage boosts that slightly push the Char forward makes for some interesting routing choices that seal the deal for me. while the bosses being long and slow, I think it's but a small smudge to the overall polished Movie here.
