If we were to straight up compare frame counts, your movie would still be faster due to less lag emulation. The real improvements dont happen until stage 2. I’ll do some math tomorrow to let you know what the gameplay time save is, will just have to subtract the amount of lag frames to know for sure.

The only places where it saves the most amount of time is in stages 1 and 3. we dont expect to use them anywhere else.

That is correct, killing the 2nd player here removes a majority of the lag. The death warps are not as easy to pull off in 2 players due to the precise timing it needs (if not impossible to do).
The way the death warp works is the game uses the same fade out effect when a stage ends or when you die. Once the screen fully fades, it checks to see if you have any lives left, if you don't have any lives remaining then the game brings you to the game over screen. however if you have lives remaining, it brings you to the next stage. If you get enough points for a 1up as you die (the easiest way to do this is to die as you activate a bomb), then you can trick the game into warping you to the next stage.
But that isnt used in this movie, instead the 2nd player is just going to die for the purpose of lag reduction. He is still usable for every boss fight, but causes a lot of the game to lag.

It depends on the game really. Some games have no change to them and some have massive changes, RNG being one such example.

with the release of 2.4.1, this verification movie should sync on it. However there was some changes I had to make in order to get it working on GBC in GBA. for one, the old publication was done on GBHawk, and at the time, loading zones were only one frame long, as I mention in the submission text. So a ton of frames were added in order to resync it to Gambette.
if the verification movie I provided is faster in gameplay compared to the old publication, I will submit it for the purpose of console verification, however it's going to be difficult to know is an improvement and what is an emulation difference. If someone wants to test it out for me I'd appreciate it. Otherwise I'll eventually look into it myself.

There’s two different firmware.bin files that I discovered that exist. One of them contains the DS splash screen and the other one doesn’t. It’s likely slamo used the one that doesn’t have the DS splash screen as it’s currently the only verified dump of the firmware in bizhawk.

I am sorry for the lack of updates on this, this game is difficult to find motivation for.
However, what does give us motivation is a pandemic, so yay.
This is likely the last iteration of stage 1 we will be doing (though the boss pattern is subject to change). we will hopefully be moving on to stage 2 after stalling for nearly a year on this.

I’m not really that big on Earthbound, but I do understand why it’s so appealing to people. It’s really light hearted in tone and at times querky, it makes watching a TAS of the game feel relaxing. The crazy new Onett skip is pretty fascinating to watch, not to mention the fact that the entire world is just on the same grid, where these out of bounds warps are possible.
I think this is a satisfying watch dispite not being familiar with the game, and I probably would enjoy it even more once I beat a casual play through myself. Yes vote.

Is it possible that the open advance option wont have to be used when opening MAME roms in the future? Not that it's an issue to open it with advance but just if this will be the standard or not, when this eventually becomes an official release.

Wow I didn’t expect this new improvement to be finished so soon. I had thought the original publication was entertaining on its own, but this new one takes it to a whole different level. Everything is so fast paced, there’s tons of glitches going on. The movement is satisfying to watch, plus I dig the game’s music.
I think it’s safe to say just like with the last publication of this game, I believe it has a good chance at Sega TAS of the year, and I’ll be the first to nominate this TAS when award season arrives. (I might suggest for stars but I want to see if others agree with that first.)

yeah I tried to make the bonus games at bit entertaining by adding playaround, but I quickly realized doing that also causes lag. It's like the game actively wants to be put into vault.

75 frames. I mostly used the jumping kick that Memory mentioned, which helped reduce some lag frames. It didnt always work though.
