Ah, but couldn't you say the same thing about fastest completion time? Also, how long does the Cotton Robe trick take exactly? Don't you have to run back and forth between towns? I can see it not being too fun to watch, so I see your point.

But why not redefine what a perfect game is, since TASing it can give us that power?

The one thing that's always sort of bothered me about the Perfect Game run is the "Obtain perfect amounts of all missable items" guideline. In a TAS, you would certainly have a lot of extra time to buy more than Atomos' suggested "perfect" amounts of these items... and while 99 of each is probably out of the question barring some really fast Gil glitch, there's certainly a maximum amount of each you could buy. To make my point, if you ended up getting EII with like 10:00 on the clock, that's two whole hours you could have spent getting money and buying "more perfect" amounts of the missable but purchasable items. Thoughts?

Actually, after some testing, this is what I came up with: - Do what you did through most of the WIP - When you reach the wooden platform on the left at the top, jump to it, do a team throw to get Dixie up by the keg (Koin's collision will be loaded already) and then drop to the other side. This breaks the camera in the other direction. - As soon as the camera is high enough, team throw back up onto the ledge to grab the keg (for this step, you have to wait for the camera to get really high up, as getting up on the keg ledge forces the camera down again) - Kill Koin with it somehow and get the DK coin - This is the weird part. If you do all the previous steps fast enough, you should be able to run right and grab the rope at the correct time so that you teleport down near the bonus. By this time, the flame at the bottom of the rope should be approaching meaning the camera will stop forcing you down so fast, meaning you should be able to reach the bonus - If not, you should change how long you wait up by Koin before forcing the camera down. At worst, this strategy will save the time that it takes to get the DK coin, which is still great.

Maybe you've already tried these, but here are my thoughts: Method A) Since the game bumps Kiddie back down to the rope whenever you do anything other than jumping, maybe you could keep jumping on the rope at the very top of the level (or stand on the ledge with the flag) until the camera is about to pass the second bonus. Then just do anything to teleport Kiddie back down to the rope and jump to the bonus. Maybe the screen scrolls too fast downward for this to work? Method B) Switch to Dixie at some point and use her helicopter move (if this even works offscreen, I think it should) to jam her in that nook with the bonus barrel. Then just turbo B to keep her in there until the camera passes and loads the barrel. As for the issues with Koin, perhaps things will change for the better after you do the second bonus. In the likely event that they don't, I have a few suggestions: - Did you try re-jumping onto the rope and breaking the camera again as it tries to go back down? - Did you try jumping to the ledge on the left at the top of the rope instead of to the ledge with the flag? This may force the camera up and left instead of up and right, but this also may pose problems getting to the flag if this works. - If all else fails, the last part of the level could be just done normally, which would kinda stink.

Update! UP THROUGH BIG BRUTY I've redone most of What the Heck and saved a few seconds. The first phase of the Evil boss fight is nearly perfect, and I didn't even really do much manipulation. The improvements in Bruty came as an accident. In my old WIP, I played by the "rules" of the level, for the most part. Then I discovered a neat skip for one of the Bruties. After finding this skip, I was determined to skip ALL the Bruties, and I eventually succeeded (I'm proud of the last one, there's normally a corner there that you can't fall through, but I had a gut feeling that it could be bypassed at the right angle, which turned out to work).

Heh, that ROCKED! Yes vote. Screenshots for the movie should be fun to come up with. I vote for anything around 3:10.

Ah, I figured as much. I really can't get over how cool the glitch is. It reminds me of a more complicated version of the "debug mode" in the Sonic games.

WOW. So in that second video, was the cannon nearby? From my experience (in DKC3) objects aren't loaded until you're close to them (though they are still offscreen). Also, are there a specific instructions as to how this is done? I'd like to try it on DKC3, though my hopes of it working are low since the bastard programmers actually did their work somewhat correctly.

I'm not sure I understand what's going on in that video in terms of new findings, other than the fact that Dixie is grabbing nothing. Can someone explain it to me?

Internet pleasures, little boy.
Well... it doesn't surprise me that it can be done (this is the internet, after all), I just figured it would be difficult if not impossible to find due to low interest.

Oh dude, I have the official Players Guide, which lists all (well, probably most) of them, so I could give you a basic description of where all of them are.
Thanks for the info, that sure will be faster than find them all by myself. I'm downloading it right now. /it's already here, and it's very detailed indeed, thanks again ElectroSpecter.
You downloaded it? I uh... didn't know you could do that. Heh.

Yes, but I'm also trying to find as many Bear Coins as I can, so we can see wich ones are more "on track" than the others, and then collect only the faster ones.

Dooty, are you testing how long it takes to grab each coin? Perhaps we could compare notes and get a more accurate list.

Unless there are some fancy skips that I'm not aware of (quite likely :P)...
I've been wondering and searching for map skips for some time (as the overworld map in this game gives you a bit more freedom to move around when in the water) but I haven't found much yet. Skips would be awesome though, especially in an any%.

I would feel a lot more comfortable with redoing the Bear Coin list at this point, as I don't trust some of my ancient vague notes (and also because three of the Bear Coins in Kong Fused Cliffs are now not optimal to get). So I think I'm going to redo my list over the next week or so. EDIT: World 1 Bear Coins redone. The sidequest route I planned (page 10 of this topic) still seems pretty solid to me, so that should still stick.

if someone did a complete test run of this game and are willing to share with us, it would be really helpful. in any case, I'll try to do it myself, just to be sure we are not collecting unnecessary stuff.
There's a 105% speedrun up at SDA here that you could watch. This wouldn't give you the freedom of testing it yourself, but it would save a lot of work and time.

About using two Bear Coins to use the lift: I think that you can just use the Wrench the first time, and every time thereafter you must pay 2 coins to use it again (which wouldn't come up in a run). Er, also, I think you get the 41st DK Coin for killing Baron K. Roolenstein the second time.

Anyway, by that point, there is still the levels in K3 to take them, if we buy the miror and the rock before.
Like I said, I realllllly don't think that it's faster to buy them before, as you need to go get the Gyrocopter after anyway.

I just finished the test with the name "TAS", still no luck with the second bonus, but then I found out that the bonus can be manipulated on the outside; the frame you touch the bonus barrel changes the banana setup.
Unfortunately, the green banana bonuses aren't always this kind ;) In later levels, it's sometimes necessary to wait on the map screen (as many as 15 frames in past WIPs) to get a good bonus. Also, bananas can be manipulated in SOME of the green banana bonuses depending on the Kongs' locations. The first one is a good example of this.

do we need to wait for the credits like DKC2 before we can reset? if so, how about use the "ASAVE" code?
Hm, I've never tested this out, and I'm not sure that it's kosher with the site rules. In fact, I don't really remember testing anything with resetting the credits. It's possible that we can reset as soon as K. Rool is defeated, but it's also equally possible that we have to wait through the credits before the game autosaves. I remember when I TASed Demon's Crest, the latter was the case.

I'm wondering if it's possible to purposely go the wrong way and survive (parts where the path splits but the camera specifically follows just one path). Probably not, but it would be cool.

Oh also, I just remembered that some major issues have cropped up with the bear coin list I posted. Now that the trick in Kong-Fused Cliffs has been discovered, the bear coins need to be collected again and the frame cost determined. I have a strong feeling that most (if not all of them) will not be collected anymore.
