July 2013: Link to video I also updated the wiki's Nicovideo page with some new information: Wiki: Nicovideo. I'm a bit busy to provide more images though.

I changed the SubmitMovie header a bit, adding the following:
In particular, please ensure that your movie is complete (not a work in progress), and that it beats all known records if going for speed. Works in progress may be posted in the WIP thread or other places.
I don't think a special header for first-time submitters is productive.

I am having trouble making the correct BIN file from the ISO. There are hardly any instructions and PCEjin's feedback is terrible. AmaizumiUni, could you please explain how you made the ROM to work with PCEjin?

Excellent glitching as usual. I like the new strategies. By the way, the glitch of getting RJ in advance is explained at http://www.mmhp.net/GameHints/MM3.html :
First, find a weapon energy pellet or capsule (a capsule would be better as you’ll get more energy for it.) Now, go to your sub screen. If you want Rush Marine, point to the Spark Shooter; if you need Rush Jet point to the Shadow Blades. (You therefore must have these weapons for this trick to work.) Now press right. Rush will appear, wagging his tail. Press A or Start. Pick up the energy capsule. Although the chosen mode won’t appear on your weapons list until you either use it or get it for real, you can now use Rush in this new form.

Sorry if I mistake your true intentions. It's a bit difficult to tell from the first post. I responded this way because: - The first post sounds like you are giving more credit to Saturn's opinion than is warranted. The publication was already judged not to have "100%" as a branch name, and a number of people already disagree with Saturn's opinion. - "This issue keeps bothering me without sympathy." sounds like it is a personal problem. If not, then it is not necessary to write like that. Because it is just an ordinary problem, not a personal one.

It really shouldn't bother you. Don't start believing in Saturn now. I agree with Derakon on "Completionist", since I think it is a short, descriptive and accurate label, moreso than the current one. And yes, Saturn has a point with the Secret of Evermore TAS (it should have the same branch). But just because someone blindly insists on "100%" does not mean that his opinion needs to be respected.

Thank you for your feedback. I have just continued this TAS and uploaded it as a WIP. I will continue to upload WIP's until I beat the game. I hope you like the WIP.
I think you should try a different game for a freerun. This game has been TASed so much that almost nothing is impressive anymore. You can certainly use your WIP to practice how to TAS.

There are a few little spots that can be improved, comparing to the 18:08 run on Medium. But definitely this run is much more enjoyable, considering the Medium run has so much R abuse. I think someone should make a version that doesn't use any of the major glitches. It's also interesting how you managed to reload saves on Impossible, and skipped part of the final castle. The part where your player character falls from the Metroid section into the Bowser part to get the orb still boggles my mind to this day.

Only 2 minutes worth of screens with "GAME OVER" text are present, from 2:20 to 4:00 and 13:55 to 14:15.

Did you test all 1344 values to see which ones gave $100000 and chose the best one, or did you just find one which worked and stopped there? What you have posted seems to indicate that it is the latter case. If it is the former, how many of the 1344 values gave $100000? In any case, how many values did you have to try before you first got the event with the $100000 payout?

Fast and glitchy. Surprised at how little sound Mega Man makes while doing zip glitches. All for the better, I guess. The game itself is pretty bad, although Wily Tower at least presents something new.

Having never played the game, and without reading the submission text, I don't find this run as interesting as any of the SNES-era and later Mega Man games. It is still better than any of the GB Mega Man games; that's for sure. Break Dash is a pretty cool weapon. Also, Mega Man makes really quick work of some of the later bosses. They are supposed to be tough, aren't they? Because it sure doesn't look like it in this TAS.

mkdasher, I suppose you were planning to do the any% as well? I was planning to do it at one point but I've been delaying so much, so you can do the any% if you like. If you ever need to manipulate things like max critical hit in battle, you can abuse the help screen (L or R). You can even use it to split the critical determination from the max damage determination if you call the help screen right between them. By the way, the Japanese version also cuts out the one-second delay at the beginning of each battle when it says what Pokemon the opponent is sending out.

Now the problem is, before that, there's a frame that has a high random of RNG cycles (the frame where the pokemon is determined), so at the moment I can't really know if a pokemon is holding an item until the screen is black. Not sure if the number of RNG cycles can be determined as well.
I think there is a formula for how many RNG cycles it uses, but I'm not sure if VBlank interferes with it in Fire Red.

I am currently writing up a new script. Anyone who does testing in Pokemon Gen. 3 will find this file package useful. http://www.mediafire.com/download/2ywt7d9t71w6a46/pokemonstats.zip Note: All files should be placed in the same folder. "pokemonstatsdisplayv2.0.lua" displays Pokemon stats. It is an extension of the stats viewer in "rng.lua". Among new things is the ability to show Pokerus status, and a Pokemon's moves. You can now check the opponent Pokemon's moves if you need to know for whatever reason. I have disabled RNG functionality for now. "pokemonpatch.lua" hacks a Pokemon's stats. Currently it is set to hack the first player's Pokemon's Attack IV to 31. You can code other hack options in the file. Read the file's code for more details. Anyway, here are some more things that I found: - None of the Pokemon in Petalburg Gym have any paralyzing moves. This makes it very hard to consider deathwarping from Lavaridge Gym back to Petalburg. - Testing Pokerus shows that the Pokemon seems to lose the ability to spread Pokerus immediately upon catching it, although it still has Pokerus effect of double EV growth. (After running from battle, Mudkip's Pokerus status went from 0 to 18; then from 18 to 16, preventing it from spreading anymore.) I don't know why this is, or if it occurs unconditionally in Ruby/Sapphire. I will do some more testing later. Edit: Seems like most of the time Pokemon catch Pokerus as normal (ability to spread). I don't know why Pokerus was removed immediately upon catching it that one time.

Looks great, and well done for the extreme optimization by bot. However, there is a rule that says that SGB mode should be used if the game supports it. It would be a shame if this run was rejected based on the rule.
Movie Rules wrote:
Gameboy series: Use the best mode ... If the game does not support GBC, but does support SGB, play it in SGB mode. An exception may be provided if SGB mode colorization doesn't enhance the visual content in any sensible way (such as in Donkey Kong Land 3, where the whole screen is tinted with one color, effectively decreasing overall visibility). ... It is worth mentioning that there is at least one GBC game, Shantae, that recognizes whether it is running on a GBA, and utilizes GBA's hardware features if available. However, none of the available re-recording versions of VBA allow recording GBC movies in GBA mode.

MrWint, I checked, and Charmander's IVs are F0FE (AtkIV=15, DefIV=0, SpdIV=15, SpcIV=14), so Special IV isn't 15.

Spikestuff, are the colors supposed to be like that? This is in GB mode, so shouldn't it be grayscale? Also, if you are really uploading to Nico, could you please put this as the title:
【TAS】 ポケットモンスター青 セーブ中に強制リセット禁止 37:10.53
and this as the description:

▶ エミュレータ: BizHawk 1.4.1<br>
▶ 製作者: MrWint氏<br>
▶ 追記回数: 65013101回
and "ゲーム" as the category in the list and "TAS" and "ポケットモンスター" as two of the tags? And upload as .mkv, because uploading as .mp4 has more artificial restrictions on it (such as 40MiB max) for no good reason.

A2 is just this: Guess each of the match-ups in Round 1. Knowing the 81 remaining contestants at this point (since you are smart), guess each of the match-ups in Round 2. And so on. Since each match-up is a three-way poll, and there are 121 (81+27+9+3+1) matches in the tournament, the probability of guessing them all right is (1/3)^121. Note: Tub's solution to A2 is correct as well. Also, a k-per-match, m-tier poll, the probability of guessing them all right (assuming you are smart) is (1/k)^((k^m-1)/(k-1)).

Is this adjective class considered a color class?
43b801 COLOURABLE
43b801 DISCOLOURED
43b801 DYABLE
43b801 NONBLACK
43b801 NONGREEN
43b801 PRECOLOURABLE
43b801 UNBLACKED
43b801 UNBLACKENED
43b801 UNBLUED
43b801 UNBROWNED
43b801 UNDERCOLOURED
43b801 UNDYED
43b801 UNGREENED
Also, fourth one on this list:
21e301 ASYLUM
21e301 CRAZY HOUSE
21e301 INSANE ASYLUM
21e301 IVORY TOWER
21e301 MAD HOUSE
21e301 MENTAL HOSPITAL
21e301 MENTAL INSTITUTE
21e301 NUTHOUSE
21e301 PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL
No subtlety about it. Incidentally there is an adjective class with IVORY-TOWERED in it. It makes a bit more sense, even if SEMI-ILLITERATE and SEMILITERATE are in the same class too as a more subtle insult (semi-illiterate isn't a real word anyway). Also in the same class, TRILITERAL and UNILITERAL fail to describe themselves. Rather, they are awfully long words. Triliteral means three letters long; uniliteral means one letter long.

Here's my full solution to RGamma's problem, without the two numbers specified beforehand, and without any prior assumption that a solution exists or that it is unique: In this post, "factorization" means writing n=cd with c,d in [2,99] and c≤d. "Two factorizations" means "at least two factorizations". Clearly, S must be at least 4 for this problem to make sense. Let x,y be two integers in [2,99] with x≤y, xy=P with P given to Mr. Product, x+y=S with S given to Mr. Sum. Mr. Product: "I know neither of both numbers." That means P has at least two factorizations. Mr. Sum: "I, too, know neither of both numbers; but I knew that you wouldn't know them." That means for all c,d in [2,99] with c+d=S, cd has two factorizations. S<55 since otherwise if c=S-53, d=53, then cd has only one factorization. S is odd, since all even numbers in [4,54] are the sum of two primes (just take my word for it). S-2 is composite, since otherwise if c=2, d=S-2, then cd has only one factorization. Furthermore, if S-2 is composite, then S is consistent with Mr. Sum's statement. This is because if c+d=S, with c,d in [3,50], one of c,d is even and the other is odd. Without loss of generality, c is even, so c=2e, e>1. As well, d≤49. Then cd=e(2d) and so cd has two factorizations. If c=2, d=S-2, then since S-2 is composite, cd has two factorizations. Therefore S must be one of the numbers of the set {11, 17, 23, 27, 29, 35, 37, 41, 47, 51, 53}. Call this set V. Mr. Product: "Now I know both numbers." That means there is exactly one factorization of P into cd such that c+d is in V. Let W be the set of all integers x for which there is exactly one factorization of x into cd such that c+d is in V. Mr. Sum: "Now I know both numbers as well." That means that, over the set of all pairs (c,d) with c+d=S and c≤d, there is exactly one pair (c0, d0) with c0d0 in W. Suppose S>33. If c=S-29, d=29, then cd is in W. Similarly, if c=S-31, d=31, then cd is in W. This is inconsistent with Mr. Sum's second statement. Therefore S is one of {11, 17, 23, 27, 29}. Furthermore, any number of the form q(2m), where q is an odd prime and m>1, and with q+2m in V, is in W, since c=q, d=2m is the only factorization with c+d odd. We see that 11=3+8=7+4, 23=19+4=7+16, 27=23+4=19+8, and so 11, 23, and 27 have more than one representation as c+d with c≤d such that cd is in W, so we can get rid of them. S is either 17 or 29. Note that 29=13+16. Now for 4,25 (29=4+25), we see that 100 is in W since the only factorizations with one odd and one even are 4,25 and 20,5, and 20+5=25 is not in V. Therefore S cannot be 29, so S=17. Now 17=13+4, and 13(4)=52 is in W. The other possibilities for c+d=17 are ruled out as follows: 17=2+15, 2(15)=6(5), 6+5=11 is in V. 17=3+14, 3(14)=21(2), 21+2=23 is in V. 17=5+12, 5(12)=20(3), 20+3=23 is in V. 17=6+11, 6(11)=2(33), 2+33=35 is in V. 17=7+10, 7(10)=35(2), 35+2=37 is in V. 17=8+9, 8(9)=24(3), 24+3=27 is in V. So none of the other pairs (c,d) have cd in W. This gives the two numbers for the unique answer, x=4 and y=13.

That reminds me. There is a "glitchless" TAS of the Japanese version of Pokemon Blue on Nicovideo, using Squirtle and Nidoran♂ line. It avoids the major glitches but still abuses sound overloading glitches (I think you know where this is going) and 1/256 miss. It also uses GB mode instead of SGB. Probably because it is faster. It is also clearly comprehensive, because over 280K rerecords were used, and the video is full of technical comments about just about everything. A few comments are about how fast each starter is. I translate a few: - "However, the former run using Squirtle to the very end is slower than this [Nidoran♂] run by over a minute, so making a run that uses Squirtle as the main battler and beating this run is probably very difficult." - "(It would be a pain to redo everything from the beginning to correct IV values.)" - "A digression, but when I made a TAS for each of the 3 starters, Squirtle was faster than Charmander, which was much faster than Bulbasaur." - "In the beginning, Charmander can push through with Ember, but until it learns Fire Blast, being restricted mostly to Ember, it is slower than Squirtle's run. (In a TAS, Slash would be in the way.)" - "Bulbasaur would be easy in the beginning, but until S.S. Anne, having only Tackle and Vine Whip, it is very difficult to advance. It would be slower than Squirtle's run by over 4 minutes. (Having only Grass attacks makes the last half out of the question.)" I have translations for just about all the comments in my subtitle file, since I had planned to post a subbed version on Youtube, but I forgot about it for a long time.

Those are really the least of Charmander's problems. My aforementioned WIP that JTSM was referring to uses Charmander. Both of Brock's Pokemon are 3HKO with Blaze+Ember, and because of Mega Kick and Metal Claw, if you do everything on the Nugget Bridge route first and then fight Misty, you can use Metal Claw to raise Attack, survive Starmie's Water Pulse and then OHKO with Mega Kick. That being said, the Charmander line suffers from having no decent Fire attack move between Ember and Flamethrower. This is most evident on the Nugget Bridge route, and the Rock Tunnel route. Add to that being forced to catch another Pokemon (and to fish for it too) for a Surf slave.

mkdasher, I watched your run. Since you're doing the Round 2 route, when do you plan to catch 60 Pokemon? Also, how did you manage to get Lt. Surge's Raichu to use Double Team instead of Shock Wave? I would have assumed that it would always use Shock Wave there if you bring in Wartortle. Edit: Never mind the Raichu using Double Team question. Seems like Wartortle can survive one since it has more health than in the other run which I had in mind.
