I don't see what's wrong with using Up+A. If Arc can make a faster speed run by using Up+A for his route, then I don't why we should prevent him. In the mean time, this route which uses a feature mentioned in the instruction booklet is the fastest run available.

Peach wasn't used in the US till the N64 came out. It was thrown in as her first name.

So that's a good thing, anomie is working on the screen changing problem.

Those are not hashes of the ROM, they are hashes of the file that contain the ROM's data. The MD5 and CRC32 hashes of the actual ROM which could be gotten with NSRT:

Funny, Snes9x gives different CRC32:
Because the code I put into Snes9x hashes the ROM, not the file which could be interleaved, have a header, or who knows what else. Your hash program takes none of that into account.
Gigafrost wrote:
Oh, one thing I noticed is, if I'm reading the info correctly, your ROM seems to be 512 bytes smaller than mine. Maybe that's just related to the amount of bytes used instead of the size...I wouldn't expect the checksums to be the same if they were really that different.
Your file contains a 512 byte header in addition to the ROM. His file is pure and only ROM. Hope you will all be more knowledgeable now.

I don't know which ROM he used since I don't have it, but the one with CRC32 0x5940BD99 is the good US one, and the one with 0xA9FB97E9 is the beta version. You guys should be using NSRT on your SNES ROMs.

The story is excellent. Also one of the first games to have a story that evolves every level. Good thing I played this game myself, and made save states every level. I actually wanted to do a time attack on this, but I don't have the time or patience.

It's a very straightforward port of the NES code (they probably didn't want to break existing levels - "if it works, don't fix it").
I tried applying some of my SMB hacks to the SMAS version, and found some was the same and some was different. For example, the staircases (seen before flagpoles and in other locations) have changed greatly in the code. In the NES version, the staircase are an object with a size parameter to determine how big it is. The SMAS version instead builds it from several vertical or horizontal blocks.

Some games have/had multiple revisions to fix bugs found in the first one. Take Donkey Kong Country for example, there were 3 revisions of the game, each one fixing bugs found in the previous one. Do you think it's better to make a speed run with the latest version where certain glitches are no longer present? Or is it perhaps better to use the oldest and buggiest version and take advantage of every glitch present?

Article starts off seeming mostly correct how the acceptability of cheating is based on where it's done. Then it turns around to say cheating in a place where cheating is allowed is wrong ???

Then why didn't they send me a copy? In fact, they were selling it in one issue for $35.

Oops, I always thought that Blues's superhero name was "Bluesman" for some reason, and that "Breakman" was just some code name he used when he was working for Dr. Wily. Or was he ever working for Dr. Wily? The story of the third game was never very clear to me.
Dr Light and Dr Wily used to work together. Dr Light created Protoman. Protoman somehow ended up in the area you see in MM3. Protoman changed his own name to Breakman. Later on Megaman was created and MM1 and MM2 occur. In MM3 Protoman/Breakman happens to find Dr. Wily who he remembers as his creator's partner. He has no idea what transpired. He sees some blue dude breaking Wily's stuff and goes to try and prevent him. After your main fight, Protoman/Breakman apparently finds out what really is going on. He then rescues Megaman his brother after the place crumbles, but didn't find Dr Wily, and assumed him dead. Megaman finds out he has an older brother created before him that dissappeared before he was created.

You'll end up banning the NES Game Atlus http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/books/nes-game-atlas.jpg It refers to it as the Rock Monster several times. Since Nintendo promoted the name in several of their magazines...

They kind of ruined the Breakman thing when they renamed Blues to Protoman.. because why would he have two ~man names? Breakman is to Blues as Rockman is to Rock.. but if Rock is Megaman, Protoman doesn't make sense being Breakman.
It's very simple. Dr. Light called him Protoman when he made him because he was his prototype. Protoman himself doesn't like that name, and renamed himself Breakman, and that is what you see him called in Megaman 3 in his own level.

Here's an interesting one... R&F saves the CDs into SRAM. When you reload in Snes9x a save state, does the CD you collected reappear? In ZSNES, SRAM is not saved in save states, so if you save state, collect, reload, the CD is gone. That means if you make a re-recorded run through the game, you can collect stuff without it actually showing up in the movie and wasting time...

This version is called WIP. If you mean blip's second attempt at movie recording for Snes9x, then yes, they will work with the WIP.

I'd like a confirmation of that working and might try it myself tonight, but I think you have to reach the cliff (in which case you just fall in and repeat the last little bit of the level again).
As I said I've had no time to test it, and awaiting for someone else to ;)

Invoker, I did a bit of searching on the web. I read one site which suggested a very fast way to get the hadoken. I have not had a chance to test it though. Start the stage, then use the exit thingy to leave. Come back and leave again, do it 5 times or so. Then procede to the end and get the item, no time wasted dying :)
