It was a trap. We logged everyone who downloaded it. Now we can disqualify all of you! ^_^ Evilness reigns supreme!

In order to raise money for the first three places, we should be taking bets. Here are the point break down and the odds we'll be accepting: http://i.imgur.com/f7vqIlF.png http://i.imgur.com/ybRY79K.png 1 2:1 2 2:1 3 1:1 4 3:1 5 5:1 6 6:1 7 6:1 8 6:1 9 10:1 10 20:1 11 15:1 Let the gambling begin! Spikestuff: Any additional feedback? Do you find more of the internal gameplay can be improved significantly? How do you feel about replacing the movie file with your improvement?

Please don't take it the wrong way, I loved this run. I don't recall any game on this site which has two or more playarounds, Super Mario World included.

Remember, if you paypal me a sizable amount of money, I'll fix the competition to ensure you have a better chance of success. The sooner you do so, the sooner you can begin taking advantage of the additional time you have.

Yes, I figured it would. Thanks for the update. The code is pretty resilient in terms of the networking it does. However I see I need to put more work into the UI aspect.

Well, it still appears to be uploading. My guess is there was a problem server side which the client side didn't properly detect till the end, and the continuation post completion stops updating the progress bar. So yes, leave it open, and it'll probably close when the upload is complete. I'll look into this, thanks for the report.

Since you're continuing to upload huge PNGs, and you went back to delete small PNGs with larger ones, I have removed your editing privileges. Please read the wiki page on how to shrink PNG files. Also, please try to name the file after the movie number to prevent possible naming conflicts. Lastly, when looking at changes, you need to give time for the site to refresh caches (5 min), as well as possible force refresh pages if your browser is caching them to see what other people are doing.

Kurabupengin: The PNGs you are uploading are huge, and we have to now go over all your changes and correct them. Please compress them before uploading, thank you.

I know, right? Actually, I do notice one difference, Yoshi's tail in the upper left looks less jagged in the current one than the proposed ones. So I'd prefer it was left as is.

The easiest way is just to grab the Windows version and run it in WINE. If you want to use a native Linux binary, you'll need to compile it yourself.

OTOH, sports seem to go somewhat contrary to that hypothesis. Although it depends on the sport, of course. For example I have the impression that football is male-dominant (there are of course female teams and leagues, but I think they are a minority). Athletic sports seem to be somewhat more evenly distributed, even when we are talking about competitive sports (such as track&field).
I don't see it as contrary at all. Men are competitive, their motivations are primarily to conquer, or acquire things which others cannot. Women are more focused on actual tangible outcomes of a particular activity, with the idea behind that less important. Both men and women may partake in sports, but for different reasons. The man wants to win the trophy or be named the best. The woman wants the exercise or the money earned/won. Ask children what they want to accomplish when they get older. Boys will say things like they want to win the Stanley cup, or be the one to cure cancer, or be the #1 Chess grandmaster. Girls will say things like be a ballerina, be a doctor, help people, be surrounded by family they enjoy. You may have two people competing for that gold medal, the man saying it was his dream to win it. While the woman will say it was her dream to be good enough to win it.

There are many non-competitive fields that are also likewise male-dominant, or at least are mostly represented by males in their top positions. Think of things like film production in all of its different subcategories (scriptwriting, directing, music composition, etc.) For example if you look at the list of greatest film directors of all time, you'll hardly find even one single woman there. (Feminists will quickly jump to the conclusion that this is because the film industry is inherently sexist, but I don't know if that's just a hasty conclusion based on assumptions or if it's actually so significant.) Film production is but one example, though.
This is because getting the "top position" is also a matter of competition. When various CEOs were asked about their motivations moving forward, men say something like they hope to have the market dominated by their product, or become a market leader, while the woman will say something like they hope to make their shareholders money, or create products that people need. Now look at film production. The men want to be known as the greatest filmmaker or whichever position. The woman says she wants to tell a good story. Therefore the men will be trying to push the boundaries on various limitations, or purposely aim to do things that haven't been done before. Women will do whatever is best for the kind of story they want to tell, or concept they want to present, without focusing on how to alter that to best win some award. Edit: To strengthen the last idea, or perhaps offer a different perspective, if one looks at the most popular book series in the last two decades, or movie series based on a book series, the author of the original book is usually a woman. I think this is because woman aren't writing books to be the most popular, or win some author's award, but simply because they just want to tell some story they thought up. Readers primarily read books not because of awards they won, but because they heard that the story itself is quite good. Movies on the other hand, which primarily also exist to tell some story, you instead have all sorts of side things which you heard about. You gotta go see this movie because of the: *Special effects *Cinematography *Well choreographed scene *Sound track *Etc...

Not any more than roller derby, I'd say...
Perhaps, but that's not my point. I find that it's more of a male trait to do competitive things solely for the sake of competition. Yes, many women are also very competitive, and there's also some competitive hobbies/sports that are dominated by women (roller derby), but I think the majority of competitions for the sake of competition is male dominated.

I have noticed an overwhelming predominance of males in the vast majority of hobbies, and I have been wondering why. Typically you go to, like, a tournament of some tabletop game or something, and at the very least 95% of the participants will be male. This is true for almost all other hobbies as well.
By any chance are the majority of these hobbies competitive hobbies?

<Atma> on the internet you're a guy whether you like it or not. <Nach> Atma: My thoughts too <GoddessMaria> not going to comment there <PJBoy> Nach, /is/ there any particular reason you would rather the gender feature not exist? <Nach> PJBoy: Because it's not relavent to discussions, nor should it be relavent, and it only offers an avenue to attack people <Atma> it doesn't matter what name you have on the internet <Atma> it can just as easily be guy behind <Atma> thusly <Nach> Atma: I think everyone is a man, even if they say otherwise <Atma> even if you have a female name, you're still a guy by default. <Atma> exactly nach <Atma> so clearly the best thing to do is have male use a male icon <Atma> female use a male icon <Atma> no gender use a male icon <PJBoy> you know, I think I'd have to agree with you <Atma> etc. <GoddessMaria> how ridiculous, Atma <ais523> the intended use of the gender feature's for pronouns, I think <Atma> the fact it was even added could be considered a joke <ais523> but with practice, you can go weeks without using a gendered pronoun <GoddessMaria> internet memes are the joke and the problem <GoddessMaria> even if a woman shows her identity through live video cam, men still cling to the memes about women being nonexistent so it only shows that there is no acceptance for us <PJBoy> if the world would just accept he as the gender-neutral pronoun, we'd be fine <GoddessMaria> that wouldn't be fine, PJ <PJBoy> why not? <Spikestuff> WE ARE ALL CATS <Spikestuff> END OF STORY <Spikestuff> ROLL CREDITS <GoddessMaria> because it will make women inferior to men <PJBoy> he already means that, people just seem to deny it the majority of the time <GoddessMaria> lol yes spike! <ais523> someone I know from another channel picks more or less random genders in pronouns because their native language doesn't have gendered pronouns * GoddessMaria is a cat xD <Spikestuff> thankfully that won't be an irc quote. <GoddessMaria> while i do admit that there are some bastards that will use the female gender for deception, but that doesn't mean we all are men doing the same thing. <RGamma> Spikestuff: I said already, that I identify as Owl. Stop saying I'm a cat <Spikestuff> Oh besides RGamma and Mothrayas <Spikestuff> They're our food. <GoddessMaria> lol

Well, I'm glad everyone likes it now using the new font, and the symbol is pushed a bit more to the right. I'm not upset with anyone, even if you're making it sound like I'm rivaling Methuselah in age, but I'm not going to be handing out custom symbols for users either. Thanks Warp for the suggestion, I'll keep it handy in case anyone needs some "special treatment".
