There's two things we should reuse from this: SMB3 8-2, going down the mountain killing all the Piranhas. SMB2 4-1, weaving between the enemies, and even jumping from underneath them. This by the way hasn't been done in the most recent TAS's, so grab from an older one.

Here's a good luck manip scene from Bisqwit's Mega Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74SHDWaI09k#t=12m54s 3 identical much needed but rare weapon refills all in a row.

Despite being over 6 years old now, I still think Mega Man X2 is the best TAS on the site. It doesn't use any huge glitches but still displays a large amount of impressive variety. Something from the 22:10-22:30 mark would be my suggestion.
I've also for ages maintained MMX2 to be the pinnacle of precise weapon usage and movement. We should definitely use something there, and your suggestion is pretty good.

The thing I disliked about the old video was that it didn't even try to educate the viewer. At no point does the video mention that these tricks are done using emulators, or how they are done.
This is a good point. Based on this and others, we need a timeline written up. The start of the previous video is good, showing lousy SMB player, followed by HappyLee's best segment. Next we need sections with some slides in between describing them. You suggestion for how to break it up are good. For the ending, we should use a minute of short insane clips, as I suggested previously.

I like the idea of grouping various scenes. Nach's suggestion of very precise survival could be one such group, with stuff like SM RBO, Rome in Commander Keen 2, and similar things.
I like the preciseness of energy in SM RBO, we should show that. Commander Keen should also be shown as he's an iconic character, and I love your tight play in CK2.

For music I think using BGM from the games showcased is best. You could have 1-2 minutes of Mario scenes with music from SMB or SMB3, then Mega Man games with Wily Stage 2, Mega Man X games with Zero's theme, and so on. It'd also avoid copyright issues.
I think we should play the actual audio from each clip we show as this way all the proper sound effects are present. We should probably merge the audio with some other background track at a slightly lower volume to give a consistent sound throughout. We should probably use a long video game remix like adelikat did with his intro. I also notice the same author did a nice Fighting of the Spirit remix, but I'm not saying we should use it, and we may be best off using two or three given the length of the video we want to make. Perhaps even use a different track for each segment of the video.

Sign of respect the oldest runs that have not yet been obsoleted should be shown. Oldest to Youngest: - Umihara Kawase - The Combatribes - Flashback
Just because they're old doesn't mean they're good. The Combatribes is one of our lowest rated movies ever. It hasn't been obsoleted because of how hated it is.

Also random idea, request every encoder to pass their logo to show the expanding tasvideos.
I'm not sure how that contributes here. Also, Bisqwit and I have some of the oldest and flashiest logos. The newer ones look much plainer by comparison.

We should probably keep clips under 20 seconds. The video can be any length, but our clip selection probably should not be more than ~10 minutes. A bunch of 3-5 second clips would be good just to show crazyness. Imagine where the last minute the screen says something like "Every game can be abused" or "Precisely play every game" and we show a whole minute of just 3 second clips going nuts. Start with 5 second clips, then go shorter to 4 seconds, etc..., end off with highly intense scenes like those from 4 player TASs or Marvel Vs. Capcom. Time wise, we can probably get in ~13 really short clips, 30 10 second clips, and 12 20 second clips with sticking to roughly 10 minutes of clips. 55 clips in all. Some other ideas: Jetpack Donkey Pack is also insane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjTNYr7J_DY WarCraft II, some part on the water where a ship blows up another taking no damage while maneuvering back and forth. Edit: If we stick to ~55 clips, and we use every game/action idea so far mentioned, and use some generic ones twice, we still need at least another 20 ideas.

We should be sure to throw in some arcade material. Find the best thing in Metal Slug, and the best in Capcom Vs. Important point: While crazy glitches are cool, and we should show a bunch of them, our video should highlight TASing as perfection, not just glitch exploitation. Therefore it should include some of those incredibly precise 1 HP unit left sort of thing, which you see a lot in Mega Man or occasionally in Metroid.

Here's some things which I feel MUST be in a TAS advertisement video: Super Mario Bros. 2 3-2, the part getting across the pit with the Ostro and POW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdKgAsWYl2g#t=7m20s Flying figure eights around enemies in Gradius, several points in the run are really good, here's one of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hETRzNzpFAI#t=8m0s Similar idea in Commander Keen 2, Rome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs9117VTvr0#t=4m52s The middle section of Level 25 of Jetpack. Some good portrayals of shooting at enemies repeatedly before they appear on the screen. (Two such examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKvaWShi-oI#t=7m11s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fM-_p0S_9E#t=2m23s) Super Mario Bros 3. Playaround 6-4 Koopa shell for the 1-up against the wall. https://media.tasvideos.org/smas_smb3_glitchy.png (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4DTMKOm_IE#t=40m03s) Insta-killing a boss in Mega Man 7 while the boss does its warm up intro. (It's done multiple times, here's one of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bZdnydui8g#t=23m10s) The chain chomp eating the trader in Link's Awakening Playaround. https://files.tasvideos.org/nach/2021.gif (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CtmgUHDdYI#t=36m20s) Moving the goalpost in Yoshi's Island. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jmif_MphSiU#t=2m33s Rapid-fire killing a tough boss in a game. Pokemon Yellow turning into Pi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UnB1fomvAw#t=1m30s). Edit: Using the balloon to slide up the impossible shafts in Mega Man 4. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=crb0wRbuFIA#t=19m40s Specifically this segment here: Bouncing mushroom back and forth while flying with the cape vs. Bowser in Super Mario World. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVSc-rTc7mA#t=10m2s (Perhaps another TAS has a better version?) Juggling 3 balls in Arkanoid. This happens throughout the game, and almost any clip would be a good choice. The real question is what is the best choice? Perhaps round 14 or 15? (Round 14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orryzHGysDk#t=4m20s) Or perhaps round 22 or 23? (Round 22: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orryzHGysDk#t=6m47s)

natt has been busy of late and has stepped down as senior publisher. Please welcome feos who is working very hard to fill his shoes. We also took the time to automatically demote staff who haven't been active in a long time. If you want to get back into things, just send your senior or an admin a line.

32 here is awful. If you can't spot a difference here, you either have broken audio equipment or are deaf. I need 72 here, otherwise I can hear a difference in the Tuba near the end. Of course lower than 64, then it gets bad in additional places too.

It could be because I'm too tired to notice anything subtle at the moment, but after listening to this a few times, 48 seems fine.

Okay on the finally correct MMIV Wily theme, megamaniv3-72.flac sounds fine. If I drop to megamaniv3-64.flac, I can notice some defects in the audio during where it jumps between left and right close to the end. But I only notice if I'm actually paying close attention looking for a mistake.

I listened to chronointro-32 and chronointro-0.flac a few times back to back. I do notice a slight difference here or there, mostly in those constant beats in the background, but it's not large enough for me to actually care. If these are supposed to be opposite in quality, then that is very good.

For quality, you should also record extreme sounds at various ends of the spectrum. May I suggest: Chrono Trigger Lavos sound. Mega Man IV Wily Theme - Stereo!

Settings for audio stream are taken once again from http://tasvideos.org/EncodingGuide/HybridEncodeScript.html#Commands where they were put by the senior publisher. I agree with using q2 instead of q0.5 which just killed the sound.
While it's awesome that we have a script which can do a good job on practically everything, I hope it is apparent that tweaks on a per game/run basis can sometimes produce better results than a generic script.

The exact same settings I used here saved 50 MB from previous SK3 encode, so I have no idea what you are trying to say.
The file size is 50 MB larger, the question is why. I notice the audio stream is ~20MB larger than before and now accounts for 25% of the file size as opposed to 18%.

I received two additional complaints about the recent publication. 1) The fonts used look a big jagged. 2) File size: 2008-09: AVI file via BitTorrent (size: 158.23 MB, length: 1:12:25) 2013-08: MKV file via BitTorrent (size: 200.00 MB, length: 1:12:19) With better technology 5 years later, 50 MB larger doesn't make much sense...

The subtitles should appear within the movie once gameplay has started, while not blocking any relevant parts of gameplay.
Please read the rules in full:
If a run has multiple fully independent segments, there should be subtitles near the beginning of each of them. As an example, Super Metroid which has Ceres Station and Planet Zebes segments, subtitles should appear close to the start of both of those. This only applies to games which feature an often ignored intro level or similar. In order to determine the need for additional subtitles, use your judgment to decide if realistically people who have only seen the latter segment(s) of a game would believe they've seen all the necessary gameplay. For very long runs, it is also advisable to add more subtitles throughout.

It's whatever it is.

A bunch of our movies have been reencoded as of late, which I have not been checking. This is the first time I downloaded an encode right after publication and saw it missing, and I've been watching Super Metroid encodes for years now.
