Thank you much turksa for the testing. I'll have to build these limits in. The illegal characters are:
"./
Correct? Regarding tags, if you get different limits for different sizes, there's some limit we're not seeing. 1) Limit of characters per tag: 2-32 2) Upper limit for amount of tags: ? 3) Limit of string contain all tags: Can be 902 can be 501? Does the last limit change with four character tags? What about when mixing two and three character tags?

In order to ease uploading videos to YouTube, I have created an uploader (Windows Binary). Pros: Supports large files. Automatic resume. Resumable if the program was terminated. Logs. Usable with batch files. Cons: No GUI. Young. To start off, extract somewhere, and edit credentials.txt, and replace each line with your e-mail address, password, and developer key respectively. To start upload:
ytu "path\to\video file" "Title" "Tags"
You will be asked to put in a description. Once it gets to the uploading stage, it will print out a Continuation ID, you can use this ID to resume if the program terminates. If you'd rather pull a description from a file (more automatable with batch files):
ytu "path\to\video file" "Title" "Tags" < "path\to\description file"
To continue an upload in progress:
ytu --continue <continuation id>
It remembers where your file is and checks to ensure it has remained the same. If you'd like to see the status of what you did so far, see which files were uploaded, which were interrupted:
ytu --list
This list also gives you Continuation IDs in case you lost them. List output to give you an idea:
Continuation ID File Size MD5 URL

To check status of running in batch files, return codes / error levels are used.
Error Levels:
0 Success
1 Error
2 Info
Please test and post your success/failure stories. Once I'm sure this is well tested, I'm going to see about integrating the site with this application as well. For those of you have heard about the "FTP proccess for Publishers", this is stage 1. Note: ytu can be run from another directory without issues as long as whatever executes it passes a full path to it. Note: I have this for Linux too if anyone is interested. Edit: Wiki: YoutubeUploader

What rating does a depiction of a murderous dictator get?
Your dictator fires some nice glowing knuckle sandwiches. But only two. In later games, he lets out some projectile, and has other devastating weapons. All in all, at most 6, so it's rated G.
Mothrayas wrote:
And what if he wears bright pink?
I wasn't aware that that was a weapon, so it doesn't affect the rating.

This topic is horrible, and you people have no clue what you're talking about. Yes, we need ratings on our movies and other user presented content, but clearly you people don't know the first things about proper movie rating in the US. Let me clarify it for you gentlemen*: G - Guns. PG - Plenty of guns. PG-13 - At least 13 guns. R - Real large amount of guns. NC17 - Not counting 17 guns, there's still so many guns... Guns of course is not to be taken literally. Shooting and violent killing is really the idea. In SMB, the fire flower for example is just as good as a gun. Or in Street Fighter, the people's arms are guns. For those of you wondering what rating a movie gets which doesn't have a gun, it isn't even published in the first place, boring movies with no action are cause for rejection. Now of course those of you who have a Kirby avatar might think it needs to be rejected and banned from the site because of a lack of guns. But don't worry, Kirby after he flies has air projectiles, he can shoot with various power-ups in many of his games - especially in the Super Smah Bros. series. To show how I take this to heart and that even site administrators follow the proper minimum entertainment guidelines, you can see that all the avatars I use contain the appropriate equivalent of a gun or other violent weaponry. *I'd say ladies and gentlemen, but as is well known, all ladies on the internet are really gentlemen.

The shovel reflects his attack quite well.

Speaking of which, this topic is more or less clearly meant to be sarcastic and a touch of denegrating. If you don't want to use this emulator, why bother with a sarcastic topic like this dearest Nach?
I want to promote TASing, and even if I don't personally want to use an emulator, that doesn't mean the emulator shouldn't be all it can be, and be used to make excellent movies. Since the name doesn't scream emulator, we must market this emulator as best we can. I'm a bit upset that we haven't seen anything really creative yet for some marketing propaganda.

The points about not as optimized as can be is indeed true. But we must also remember that the current regular SMB run is a 00:17.85 second improvement over the first TAS, 15 runs earlier. Even regular people can beat that original run in real time. If this run can be beaten in 142 or even 135 presses, then so be it. But people need to have the ingenuity to come up with that. People didn't come up with all the speed cutting tricks in the regular speed TAS the first few times. In any case, it was still worthwhile to accept most of those early SMB TASs, as they were still technically impressive in their own right, and paved the way for faster runs to come.

This is a good point. Ideally, if it can be manipulated, it should be timed that Mario doesn't reach the Hammer Bros till a moment before they jump, so it looks like they're jumping out of Mario's way, as opposed to Mario running underneath them.

I actually wanted to reject it around April 2, but the time seemed daunting and I didn't want to watch it, and there were so MANY other runs that needed rejecting.

I find this to be weird. On my actual Gameboy, I traded the magic powder. Unless I somehow glitched out my game, I'm thinking perhaps there's some in game triggers which determine what you're allowed to trade. Maybe it matters if you got magic powder by starting with the mushroom, or one of the other techniques? I'd like to see the final boss fought well, I think dump whichever can't be used against him (except shovel, since that's funny).

That bullet bill bounce was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Even better than the multiple hit against Birdo and her eggs in the quad SMB run. Big yes vote.

I personally would reject this. This game is way more fluff than actual gameplay. The gameplay itself is very annoying to listen to, and not remotely entertaining.

That tag sounds like it includes unlicensed games as well, is that the case? If so do games like Action 52 which were not in the "Hacks" section need the label? Here is a list of unlicensed games. Some of which have movies on the site.
Yes, it should include unlicensed games. I know it's hard to define what exactly is classified as a "second tier" game, as we have wonderful hacks like Super Demo World, and questionable games like Bible Adventures or Action 52. Therefore we're going to draw the line between some sane definition of official and unofficial. Just because there is some company behind a game doesn't necessarily make it any better or worse than a game made by a hobbyist. We're not here to label the quality of the game, although game quality will be reviewed by judges before accepting runs. But we will label unofficial games as being so when published.

If it would get published, then TASVideos would open a gate to welcome all kinds of "minimum presses" TASes, and soon there would be SMW MP, Megaman MP, and so on. We would probably need a counter for key presses for every submission
That's the idea. As for counting key presses per submission, that's not really a big deal.
HappyLee wrote:
If it would get published, then I think we would have to change the defination for the word "TAS" again, since it's neither a speedrun nor a playaround.
Tool-Assisted "Superplay". It's "super", because it requires long range planning in finding how to trade multiple buttons presses for less. It also shows off things in the game you just don't normally see. Mario walking by Hammer Bros like they're not even there? They just jump out of his way? Or bouncing off lots of things with no effort expended. You don't look at the game as "oh I beat it in no time at all", it's more of "I beat this in my sleep, I barely even pushed anything". Or "Hey, I tied a rubber-band around the controller and walked away, and look, the game was beaten, this *game* is pathetic". Unlike fastest time, this really is about "effortless play".
HappyLee wrote:
People do enjoy incredible speed and amazing entertainment in TASes, but do they really care how many buttons are pressed?
I do. It's another metric to ridicule classic games.
HappyLee wrote:
It's not like solving a Rubik's Cube with the least moves
However, a Rubik's Cube competition can consist of doing it as quick as possible, in the most entertaining way as possible, or in the least amount of spins as possible. With TASing, we currently are missing this last metric.
