That was absolutely nuts. I know this game so well, seen all the TASs, and this is the first video I saw where even I was confused. Looks like we have the winner for 2012's glitchy and funny TAS right here.

Okay, that is a good explanation. Is everyone else satisfied with this?

If you think that's disturbing, I can now legally prescribe marriage in 4 different countries.

I'm considering accepting this. However I'd like some input. This movie starts from SRAM, in order to access the hardest level of difficulty. But from what I'm led to understand, there actually is no perceivable difference in the gameplay whatsoever from hard mode. In theory this exact same run could be made from regular mode with a clean start. Do you see some benefit from hard mode to make it worthwhile in this game? Or should I reject this?

So I have to ask. Why name the emulator "lsnes"? Why not something that makes its' bsnes heritage more clear (like "bsnes-rr" or something)?
Well, it's not bsnes. It uses the core of bsnes, but the GUI and all these features on top have nothing to do with bsnes and are custom designed. Not even loading a file is handled remotely like bsnes handles it.

We need to change the name of this too! <ais523> clearly the NES plugin for BizHawk should be called BizNES

turska, good but let me explain better. The top two images is HourGlass. The game is not literally inside HourGlass. In the second row, the game is indeed inside the application.

No you guys don't understand him, it has to be literally inside, not figuratively inside. Here's a diagram:

Finding all 26 might be nice. It certainly gives one an excuse to walk all over doing crazy things.

To clarify on some things DarkKobold said. Vecna actually does have one published movie, and a mild interest in TASing, but his primary focus in Bizhawk is core accuracy and not writing GPL code. Zeromus is a very valuable person to our community, more than most people realize. But he's not a TASer, and only has a passing interest in anything we do. He likes writing emulators. His interest in bizhawk is to not have to fix 1223235 poopy emulators with poopy code, and work on a good codebase inest. My interest in bizHawk is my vision of it being a universial emulator for TASVideos. The community and the benefits of the emulator to the community are my priority here. As such, I'm the one who implemented rerecording, countless tools, and feautres, and focused on a UI that I felt benefited average users as well as TASers. When it comes to the needs to the community, all three of us have actually been listening and done a lot since its release only 3 weeks ago to accommodate complaints, and fix bugs. However, I would ask that in return for the effort we put in, that we at least due respect to name our work the way we please. Most everything about the emulator could be democratic rule, but give us that at least. No disrespect is intended by keeping the name of the emulator we wrote the same. Personally I think it is a bad move to rename an emulator at this point. And you have to understand that you've been calling it BizHawk for 3 weeks. We've been calling it that for about 21 months. Its grown on me, and I can't imagine it being called anything else!
Well said. *Nach claps.

Also, people still use the old emulators (SMW runners use 1.43 and there's the Kirby Super Star WIP on 1.43 also), depending on what works best for a given game.
Except it generally isn't the case that it works best for the game, but the players find that that version inaccurately lags less, and they want the faster time, even though it is not accurate to a real SNES.

It's like they're totally disrespecting our whole community and the opinion of the majority of the users here. How many people are going to want to use an emulator named BizHawk, and how many casual gamers want to make movie files with the extension ".tas"??
All good points. But Bizhawk is by adelikat and zeromus, which is our community. You can see zeromus's response above. It should be obvious arguing about this will get you nowhere.

That is a good question, one which I don't have a good answer for. I could speculate, but I'd rather not.

Not sure what you're trying to say, but, probably not, at least when it comes to emulators. "Genecyst" is arguable though. Bloodlust Software, the makers of both emulators, did have a strange sense of humor.
Don't forget Callus.

Why does this have to be the case? They made the emulator for the community, for us. Shouldn't our opinion matter?! Do we as users who frequent the site not matter at all to them??
Why are you using logic here? The authors of the emulator are not interested in your opinion or arguments on such matters.

Yeah, it's not like 100% completion speedruns are popular or anything.
Those games either have a built in counter for what % you got, or there is some kind of status screen to see which items were obtained. SMB has none of that.

I spent the better part of 3 hours trying to double wallkick on the left wall to get up over the coins in 1-1 and I don't think it can be done. Feel free to prove me wrong, of course.
How about running through the blocks beneath the coins?

Indeed. Seeing this, it looked like a proper TAS.

I did like the previous too, but I'm not sure if I would've accepted it or not. The clear improvement in this one though made the choice obvious.

What do you guys think so far?
It's good! I think you should go beat the Angler fish though on one of the other screens without even getting the flippers, because it's funny! Maybe get the heart piece by him before the flippers too? I'd also show off a few L2 bracelets to make sure the idea really sinks in to those who don't know the game that well.

Lastly, I can hex the starting name to “thief” as suggested if that works better.
THIEF yes. It's funny because the game tries to change your name, and it already is your name.

Other ideas: Marin after the L7 Dungeon is stuck on a bridge. Normally she leaves you immediately after you rescue her because you pull her to safety with the hookshot, but I'm wondering if you can keep her around by glitching the overworld physics and then just walking into her. I've never tested this, but it could be possible to have two Marins...?
I remember the game checks to see if you have Marin in any of the places she is supposed to appear and doesn't if you have her.

Indeed it is! There is something you can't do with Bow Wow around though, I forget offhand what is is. Probably something we won't be needing anyway.
