Nice In super mario bros 2, how come you don't take the shortcut to the left at 6:17, like in the current TAS? I was impressed by how close together three of the games finished. You clearly put some thought into that aspect. :D

This also gave me a nifty April Fool's idea too late: just have a movie enable Sound Test and play around with some jams. (I know that, for instance, you can do this with Kirby's Dream Land.)
Can you do it anyway? :D

Unfortunately pretty much every rhythm game you can play on an emulated console can't be done better in a TAS than someone irl somewhere can. Even in ITG pretty much everything is 100% now and even Vertex^2 Expert has been 99%'d.

Can you show an example? I watched the video and didn't notice anything out of place.

You have to admit, the first 30 seconds are the best part of the TAS. ;D I enjoyed seeing him get chipped down like that. The unfortunate thing about a TAS like this is that without a failure reel you don't get a sense of how hard what you'be done is. Yes anyway

Are you sure boss 4 couldn't have been sped up with a mix of scepter hits and thrown items? It's the longest part of the run for seemingly no reason. Everything else is great though

I love it when someone optimizes the hell out of the TAS, then don't know they can fast forward through cutscenes or something similarly trivial. :D

Skies of Arcadia: Legends. That way you'll have the longest TAS ever, just like the speedrun is the longest speedrun ever on SDA.

Why don't you try out Toribash? That's basically what this is - a fighting game where you choose input frame by frame and then simultaneously reveal.

Interesting game! Could the boss be beaten faster at 4:30 by making the homing spreadshot hit as fast as possible? Since it reshoots once all its projectiles are off screen.

Haha, I like the mole getting flung clear across the river by knockback. On the third boss, are you drawing anything in particular or just doodling?

If you had explained why optimization was non-trivial and what you needed to do to save frames, it wouldn't be as negative. :) I had no clue until FractalFusion's post about it.

I would be very interested to see a run using this glitch, but I think a run using that glitch should obsolete previously published runs. If some people fear a new run will take away entertainment, then what about Mario Land 2? The any% 21 minute TAS which I considered the most entertaining gameboy TAS on the site was obsoleted by the glitched 2 minute TAS which even had the wrong and monotone BGM in the credits. Either we are strict with obsoleting previous runs or we revert those past decisions, I'm fine either way but please don't make exceptions (such as introducing a seperate glitch category for SMW).
But the 100% TAS is still up for Mario Land 2, which shows off all content of the game without skipping glitches. In this case it's being proposed that this will replace 100%, not any%.

Maybe you need to make a bot to brute force input around there until it produces the desired result, alla bisqbot.

I don't think you can reach power increment 106 in a reasonable amount of time, but it would be an amusing dirty sram TAS "Nega Mario spontaneously begins to exist due to a glitch in reality. His one purpose: To prove no one can defeat bowser faster than him. His speciality: Memory corruption."

Forgive my total ignorance but why do you get the triple triade cards of the characters? Do they morph into something good?
The character cards become VERY useful items. One of them becomes a Holy War which makes your whole team invincible, for instance. I think that this is a test run and that he'll figure out what cards save time and what cards don't, also.

any% is 'reach credits as fast as possible' 100% is 'do everything that the game tracks'

That feature, along with the Shoelace-Tier and the Pop-Up Hairstylist, has no business in an emulator, plugins or otherwise, and will never return to psxjin. Loading an archived iso is analogous to loading archived roms in other emulators and is not in principle objectionable, however it is hard to believe that anyone uses it given the substantial decompression time and RAM requirements, so I recommend against holding your breath while waiting for it.
It doesn't have to be stored in RAM if it's decompressed to the disk.

This makes me wonder why we haven't seen a Canvas Curse run yet.
I actually think I'd prefer a canvas curse over this - while the speed in this is absolutely breakneck, the triviality of every level makes it hard to sit through the whole thing. It is a great example of superplay, of course.

I don't think there are any precedents for speedruns that stop and wait for a separate game, actually. EDIT: Part 1 got removed for being too long.

IMO the categories for an arcade game should be: -Fastest time with deaths/continues -Fastest time deathless -Maximum score (would be interesting for games like cave shmups with ridiculous scoring systems) EDIT: -Fastest time, pacifist EDIT: -Minimum score EDIT: Stuff like loop 2/loop 255/raising the difficulty/'plays on hardest difficulty' type stuff would also be interesting. Mmh, so many goals... Fastest time with continues is 'I am a god of this game, how fast can I reach the ending if I don't care how much I spend on it'. Fastest time deathless is 'I am a god of this game, I want to make every player of this game eat their heart out and I want to do it fast'. From a pure speed point of view continue using is better, but only doing it on one coin is more psychologically impressive since it's the level of skill you'd expect a pro of the game to strive for - after all, they want to pay as little as possible for the same experience. For this reason I think no deaths should be the preferred kind of run - however, there are games where dying is an interesting part of a score attack, like in battle garegga where it plays with your rank which controls everything about the game.

So, when can we expect these tricks to be utilized in a real time run? :D
