One question: If you optimized for this game's buggy implementation of the... 'Yathzee' rules instead of the normal Yahtzee rules, could you get a higher score, or are the two strategies the same?

'Usually, you are restricted to the game window pull the launcher band down to launch the hedgehog, but with the libTAS input editor, you can set it to any coordinate value. In this case, I set the value up to the max mouse y value of 99999999 and lowest x mouse value of -99999999 (don't know if that's exactly how many nines there are but basically there's a lot of nines).' I think this is worth discussing - is it possible to do this RTA? Is it a valid kind of 'input'? I know that with consoles we allow things like U+D, 30Hz mashing, the unused 15th and 16th button on the SNES controller, etc. because the console will physically accept these and it's possible to craft or use a peripheral that will send these signals. But in the context of a video game running on a computer, the context is less clear - is it a valid input if the computer can send it to the game, or does there need to be a way for hardware to send the input to the computer that the computer would pass on first?

It's superficially like Reversi, but I wouldn't call it a clone/knockoff of Reversi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ataxx The concept was invented earlier by Dave Crummack and Craig Galley for the unreleased 1988 video game Infection. Virgin Mastertronic licensed it to Leland as well as using the design in its own Spot: The Video Game released the same year as Ataxx.

Groundbreaking! I wasn't sure this would be maxed out in my lifetime. Nice collaboration. EDIT:

Probably lots of game-end-glitch/crash type stuff. Isn't there some glitchy warp stuff in Battletoads that isn't fully maxed out, or did it all get figured out by now?

Might be worth including in the notes what the differences are between training vs no training (in case anyone ever looks at this again??)

I'm loving this, LOL. Keep it up! Maybe there's a funny edge case when every judge has co-authored a TAS and we enter Sudden Death Mode.

Okay, this has to be one of the most creative ways to end input early.

Good riddence. And a big THANK YOU to anyone who helped expand the campaign to the point where Cloudflare finally had no choice but to act, starting with keffals.

Oh my god, yes! I was thinking this would never be finished. A masterwork of optimization. Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see. Yes vote.

Beautifully inhuman, yes vote. One thing you didn't explain is the difference between the different scenarios. Is picking the Gemfire scenario fastest, or highest difficulty/highest completion?

The game objectives says 'Forgoes major skip glitch'. Is this OoB *NOT* a major skip glitch? Yes vote, I was entertained!

I feel like most of the time, dip switches should either be 'default settings', or 'hardest difficulty' when that's interesting enough to show off. Lowering the difficulty on an arcade game feels cheesy like delibately not getting a 1CC would.

Absolute madness that you can throw the book at this game's TAS and only save one frame. Maybe it's closer to being on SMB1's level of optimization than we think.

Yesterday's smbc had an interesting mathematics challenge: https://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/derivative A = The number of symbols in a function B = The number of symbols in that function's derivative. Homework: Find the function of finite length with the highest ratio of B to A. Now, obviously you have to decide for yourself what 'symbols' means, but after doing that, what's the best you can come up with? I asked a friend who came up with a very pleasing solution, but it might be possible to do even better: https://xeno.chat/@bj/108199208965188517 D(e^x)=e^x D(e^(e^x))=e^(e^x) e^x, thanks to the chain rule D(e^(e^(e^x)))=e^(e^(e^x)) e^(e^x) e^x, and so on The derivative of an exponent-tower of e^e^e^...^x is a product of these towers starting from the original and going down to e^x. The number of symbols on the left side increases linearly, but the number of symbols on the right increases quadratically, so the higher you make your tower, the higher your ratio is, and you can make the ratio arbitrarily large. Obviously if you accept this answer, the question evolves past 'what is the highest ratio' into 'what's the fastest growing function you can write to produce higher ratios faster? Can you make bigger polynomials? Exponentials? Bigger?'

I would have to study this run for a while to fully understand every crazy thing it does, but even with just a layman's viewing it's a delight to see. Heck yeah!
