I can't predict what I might find but I'm not actively trying to improve it.

-14f from keeping the inventory open while using the keys in mission 8. Another one I considered while doing the 100% TAS. I don't think there are any other instances I can do this inventory trick that I don't already. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/73986975422888903 Didn't have to resync which was nice.

104 frame improvement from the Ski Village in mission 10. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/73963126994578952 This probably won't be a regular thing. I'm focusing on the 100% TAS and had a few ideas in the meantime.

I improved the first jigsaw in m8 by 10 frames. Unfortunately because of resyncing it's only 2 frame improvement overall. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/73891347439225766

We had a look through the other missions. 3: Link to video 4: Saves a good amount of time when used before the town, and a little bit before the Snow Forts. In the Plaza, you have to get through all of the penguin's conversation and then click the newspaper to avoid softlock/crash. Link to video 6: Skips the cutscene of Klutzy running up the Ski Hill (and allows call skip after). 8: Works before meeting Klutzy, but can only be used to pick up the key. There might be other uses, but it is quite restricted. Any room transition that goes straight into a conversation is useless.

The answer is that it's an alternative to the planks microgame. Probably faster if you pick up the sticks while summoning the puffle. Also, it's known already that exiting a game after completing it still counts, but you have to do it late enough that it "finishes" in the fade-out. Turns out this still saves time, but only a few frames. Link to video Don't know if this menuing can be improved. 6 frames is 0.1, so it would save a couple of seconds across the TAS.

Link to video Credit to WeILs. Saves about 40 seconds.

Mission 10 TAS by 16-bit Panda, using the Ice Fishing skip: Link to video Faster than the mission 10 in the published TAS by about 70 seconds, but doesn't use HUD glitch at the end.

I tried removing gnash with apt-get. Then I ran the last line and it gave a similar error to before. I tried again and it didn't give an error but it seemed to end abruptly. If it did work, I don't know how to tell.

It is 64-bit. I closed the terminal since so I just have this screenshot.

To be honest, I'm going to need a dummies' guide to this. I've had a lot of difficulty just trying to install Gnash. It's been dead for 6 or 7 years and a lot of the links don't work now. Or is it supposed to come with Ubuntu? After downloading Gnash about 5 times I ran the second script manually. It worked until the end where it gave quite a bad error. I think one issue was version difference, the script mentions 0.8.10 but I seem to have 0.8.11. Would appreciate any help with setting this up.

That run was played on Club Penguin Rewritten which is a private server based on the original Club Penguin. (I could have played it on anything really since it's just an external macro.) I'm not entirely sure on the libTAS setup. It would probably be a standalone SWF of Astro Barrier run on sdl-gnash. I don't think running a whole Club Penguin client would be feasible.

I made a TAS of Astro Barrier in Club Penguin a while ago. Link to video I now plan to make a new and improved TAS using libTAS (because it should be at least 10x better than MacroGamer lol) and was wondering if there's any way it would be eligible for the site. I can go into more detail about the run if you want.

Several TASes of the online Club Penguin game exist. Naturally, none of them are eligible to be submitted for the site (although a new one could be). I thought this would be a good place to collect them.

  • Comments: Astro Barrier is a minigame in Club Penguin. This run has since been obsoleted by new strategies but a new TAS has not been finished. It uses an external macro script so it often suffers from desyncs. It may require several playbacks to work, or not work at all.

It's not really a known record if it's an unlisted video that was uploaded today...
Yes and ":^)" shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's at least a 50 sec time save though and tony hasn't responded to the time saves I've posted on the server recently. I don't know if it's because he hasn't been checking Discord, or if he hasn't looked closely at what I've posted, or if he just doesn't want to think about redoing the TAS because it doesn't sound like something I'd want to attempt either (he wasn't too happy when we mentioned a time save in mission 3 after he'd finished mission 5 or 6 :P).

Using the WSR version would also be significantly different when going for speed. WSR has unskippable replays from things such as chip-ins, so it would be faster to get close to the hole and putt it in.

Link to video Little use currently, but has a lot of possibilities. I think the next step would be looking into the game's code to see how it actually works (maybe with RAM Watch).

Found a funny timesave for 100%, I think it's faster to press Upload Coins on the last minigame rather than continue (because it takes you back to the main menu)

tony hasn't responded to my recent Discord stuff, so I'll post some things here for better organisation (and easier to find). I found out in mission 3, you can break the snow wall with the red puffle. And I think it's faster, if you open the door while the puffle "loads" (need to time it properly though). So then I went through all the missions to see if there are puffles that have any uses that might be faster. Mission 2: Green, jetpack. Red, jetpack (but slower because it falls to the ground). Purple, snake token. Black, snake token (might be faster than purple). Mission 4: Yellow, snake token. Red, snake token. Again, got to find which is fastest. 5: Purple, snake token. Blue, don't know. 6: Black, snake token. 7: White, ice path across river. Blue, ladder (slower than popcorn though) 8 and 10 allow all puffles throughout the mission. In mission 9, the white puffle also works for stopping JPG's rocket and might be faster. Or maybe you could get the green puffle out immediately in Rookie's room and use the yellow puffle for both the cage and the rocket without switching (but I don't think it has any reason to save time). The pink puffle is obtained right at the end and I don't know if it has any use. Also uploaded a few minor glitches https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFmb-0AjF5M This is just a funny thing where the agents will appear to jump off the screen. I thought it was interesting it wasn't fixed since it's the first mission and must be quite easy to do unintentionally. Also interesting is that it completes on the pause menu, but doesn't look like it's any faster. Another thing with the pause menu is the puzzle in Veggie Villain. You can move the pieces on the pause menu and then unpause and it will be solved (if you moved the right pieces of course). Couldn't find a way it was useful though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYl5knwju1Y This appears to be a permanent glitch on my European cart, I don't know how it happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akQwo0cKtvk I think tony has posted something like this in mission 1. I wonder if they keep moving downwards off-screen. One other thing is I've been thinking what a 100% TAS would be like. The snake tokens are just minor additions to the normal TAS, and then the minigames: Jackhammer is quite straightforward assuming all the best routes have been found. Amazing Maze can be skipped completely with the coin glitch, and Aqua Rescue should be easy. I've wanted to TAS Aqua Rescue already to show the optimal way to get Gold medals (since I keep missing the shots). Grapple Gadget is the only one that seems like it would be difficult. Lots of routing and probably hard to get optimal swings. But it doesn't seem too bad considering the rest is not difficult (or so it seems).

https://www.speedrun.com/cpepfhr/run/zgn9neey A decent RTA run? :O Biggest mistakes were in mission 2, don't know how low is possible. Obviously not as fast as TAS because of all the HUD stuff and text mashing

I didn't mean anything about the cave, I mean after the Puffle gets the paper in the Town, you could go inside the Gift Shop while the paper is falling to the ground

It's not required to get the pegs from the Sport Shop, I just said that's what I did because I wasn't sure what would have made the barrel work. Maybe you could get the paper down and go in the Gift Shop while it's falling.
