I would be very interested in following this project. I'm a big advocate of console versions of FPSes, and there really needs to be more research into them and to celebrate the differences between them and the PC versions as well as seeing speedruns and TASes on consoles. Also, if you're interested in Saturn games (again, an under-researched and underappreciated area), and FPSes in general, I'd very much like to see a TAS of Hexen - imo the Saturn version is the best of all the console versions (and I've played both that and the PS1 version as well as on PC).

Why wouldn't you obsolete if we can build it faster, better, stronger. Let's make this the Six Billion Dollar TAS... or something.

Am I crazy for wanting to see some of the SMT series games and spinoffs TASed?

Guess that guy didn't know you can press Select to reduce the first cutscene down by about 2 minutes. Either way, this does seem interesting

My lovely lady likes to do her own thing online while I'm playing games, she enjoys her own share of gaming although it is mostly casual games. Occasionally we will do stuff together, like recently we took the time to co-op through Streets of Rage, and she loves to watch me on stream when I do speedruns. Basically, for the most part she's content to do her own thing while I'm gaming, which is pretty cool, and's she is free to be as included as she wants to be :)

For Lorelei's Lapras, were there not some other options besides Low Kick to OHKO? OHKO moves, other fighting moves, Thunder? Or was the Metronome RNG really against you there?

BTW, for the slow moving text, you can hold either A or B (I forget which, but it's one of them) to speed up the text.

http://smealum.net/?page_id=299 Got linked to this guy's blog today, detailing his discovering some vunerabilities in reverse engineering the 3DS. Not sure how useful this will be for developing accurate emulation, but I'm sure it's something that will likely help.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GECv2hgHwIc WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/11366043971660940 Figured I throw an encode together of the current progress. Yes, I figured it was better not to waste my work on the glitchless run and get it finished, so here's Stages 1-4.

I'd say, let's see more Fire Emblem. Don't worry about the minutiae just yet, let's see the progress.

I'd rather see a variety of moves used rather than a fastest time run, because it's just the same moves over and over again and gets boring fast, even with such a short TAS. With King, he has a nice variety of grabs and throws to abuse, so that should have been the focus rather than what was presented here. No vote from me.

As awesome as these Individual Level runs are, is there ever gonna be a full run from a fresh memory state, it's something I'm sure many of us would like to see alongside these runs

Basically yes. TASing is popular in many countries and languages, but this site is primarily in English so it stands to reason we should have English commentary to go with our runs. I have a lot of respect for what RealMyop does but I don't know French that well, and I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate an English language commentary to complement his series.

Yes, I know about Archive, and some of the existing AC happens to be there. I'm talking about bringing the commentary entirely to TASvideos and cutting out a middleman site like Archive.

I am a big fan of commentary throughout speedruns, whether it be audio commentary or subtitled. It helps me understand certain things which surprise or may not be immediately apparent, as well as perhaps entertain during a particular boring section of a game. As it stands there are currently 35 runs which have some form of commentary, whether it be audio, subtitled or just a simple translation or overview of the plot. This is a pathetically low number in my opinion compared to the number of total TASes on the site, and I'd like to see something done to improve the number of commentated runs. So, I have two suggestions as to what to do to improve this. First would be to integrate commentary into the submission process - this can be done through audio with a .wav file, and/or subtitled with some form of .srt or Lua file. Most of the audio commentaries are located off-site, and with a few exceptions most of them are no longer available, which is unacceptable. The second would be to organise a group of regulars to commentate on existing and upcoming runs, perhaps focusing on the more popular runs at first and runs that will require a lot of explaining. I'd be happy to add my golden British voice to this list. Of course, it would often feature guest appearances from the TASers themselves, or at least people who know enough of the game mechanics to explain things, or at the very least entertain throughout. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see more commentary in runs, so let's make it happen, people!

Ok, it's been long enough since I did a TAS. I did my first attempt on VBA, but with GB emulation being more accurate with BizHawk, so I understand, I'm gonna restart on that. First major change is going to be taking advantage of the glitch I discovered in the old WIP. Basically, by scrolling an egg just slightly off-screen as it is destroyed, I can cause that egg to reappear to be destroyed again, as many times as I need. It works better when scrolling left-right rather than up-down, so not every egg would be ideal for this, but it will save a lot of time trekking across the map as I can just pick on the first viable egg and farm it to clear the section. Second thing is to try and cause the T-Rex to vanish in the Stage 2 boss fight. My basic understanding of how this would happen is by causing so much lag that it can't spawn at all. The most powerful ammo also causes a lot of lag when fired, and I can have up to 14 shots of it by the time I get to the T-Rex (plus other forms of ammo), so I should have more than enough to at least test it being possible - I did pull it off on a real PAL cart, so I have every confidence. I may be able to avoid picking up the 10-shot batch which is slightly out of the way, and cause it to happen with just the 4-shot batch that is nearer in Stage 2, but that will require some testing. This run is gonna look very different to the WIP because of these changes, and with Grant going around the levels a lot less, it does risk the TAS being a bit less interesting to watch, but it does make it significantly faster to boot. At least there'll be more to show off than the NES version, plus that means more time to enjoy the rockin' chiptunes.

I've just watched this, and I think there's a lot more you can do here. First of all, it's entertaining. There's a lot of skill shown with the enemies, and some of the areas where you avoid getting hit are done nicely. Showing off the funny zip on the third boss was cool too. However, there's a lot of techniques you didn't make use of, notably the shortcut mentioned in this very page above in Stage 2, for example. There's a lot of places where taking damage would save a lot of time. And mainly, the boss fights can be managed a lot better too - manipulating the Stage 2 boss to attack after only one jump each time for example, or the second to last boss getting hit all the time. Overall, this is a good first attempt. Have a look at the current run and see if there are ways to improve it. Mickey does move faster in air, so you do need to keep him jumping all the time where possible. Don't be afraid to take more damage where possible to save time, and make use of the shortcut in stage 1 too. If you're not sure, watch the current run Good luck, and don't be disheartened, we all start somewhere, and first efforts are not wasted if they help improve your TASing.
