Like Comicalflop said there were times when I felt that maybe this wasn't 102% optimal. Best example is the lag during the space shooter stage. But for heaven's sake this run is so amazing, considering all of the 2 player tag teaming, the bonus playing around with the fire+seeker, the quick fights, and the glitches (die throwing most of all) that there's no way in hell this is getting any less than the finest Yes --aah, so chaser WAS as fast as the other weapons because of the 2/3rds damage thing I bet. I wondered.

The only reason I haven't made a run of this game is the horrible desyncing problem. I never even got to test any of my plans :P I'll check this out when I get home.

I already got the sense that warps only go to the very first third of a world, this apparently supports that so excellent! I was almost afraid of starting over again just to find a faster warp, haha. I assume the whole 'warp to last boss' rumor was a simple mishearing/misunderstanding of 'warp to last world,' which is true and this TAS will be much thankful for! :D

heavens, 1-1 keeps getting shorter, haha. Thanks so much for that knowledge! I hated world 6 so much, haha. Well this run should be done much sooner now, as I find time to work on it. Huzzah!

The sixth world is a jerk. Always ends with a huge staircase or even just a huge wall with bouncers in front of it. It's gonna take a couple tries to figure out what is the best route--quickly across the bottom and just trying the end quickly, quickly hurrying to the very top and jumping carefully so to avoid the ending, or something in the middle, bulbulbul I also keep finding improvements for 1-1, haha. Thankfully, this game is VERY hex-edit friendly.

http://thatdenny.googlepages.com/PsychoFoxWIP3.mmv I'm going to go for the warped run first, cutting to 6-1. This WIP includes yet another improvement to 1-1--the changer up top at the start saved me 19 frames. Getting another changer in an egg at the end and cycling the attack bonuses to get a changer in 1-2 were needed so that I can swap to hippo (to open the path to the warp) and back. This WIP ends with a fun little glitch I found--unfortunately it doesn't work anywhere else, and, as you can see, doesn't exactly help a whole lot. Wee! Now to see how well hex-editting in a two-frame improvement goes. I forgot that on the pause screen you can press left to skip straight to the tiger, so spending two frames passing over the monkey was completely unnecessary. I'm hopeful that everything will sync up but one never knows until one tries. Also, just after uploading this WIP I noticed that you can jump in a two-block passage if you duck first, and then once your head hits the small ceiling you can punch, meaning that the section with the hippo bustin' some walls is slightly improvable. Wee!

Way aheada ya, that "OSHT" look is awesome Yeah, Frenom, it'd be hard to get up there and keep momentum, it's a question of whether when optimized the faster movespeed makes up for it, I'll see what I can do but 200 frames does sound pretty rough

Really nice. I hope you know about the warps at 1-2 and 1-3. But I guess you aim for a full run :) Keep it up.
...warps? Whoooaaa I should look that up, thanks for telling me. edit--a SUPERDUPER EDIT: Okay I found the warp in 1-2, and it goes to 6-1. That considerably shortens the game. So it's either that or a full run. Maybe the warp to 4-1 from 1-3 as an option, since it shows all 3 boss types that are repeated in the game. ...a vote? As far as style is concerned, yes, I've done a few sections in realtime and I've noticed that I don't like them. There are little bits of interest but it's not consistent. Considering there are warps to look into now (was that what that invisible platform I found was?), it looks like I'll be doing some things over again anyway, so what I think I'll do is go through a stage a couple times figuring out best route if necessary, and then do the full thing and include any style points I can think of without losing frames. Shouldn't take much longer than it already is going, and I believe that the current movie format should by now be able to sync with the upcoming accepted publishable emulator version. FINAL EDIT: I feel like an idiot, I completely missed a changer in an egg at the very start of 1-1 that was only SLIGHTLY off the path I had been taking, so I guess I'm starting over anyway. Ha!

http://thatdenny.googlepages.com/PsychoFoxWIP2.mmv Finished for the night but wasn't able to get it up for y'all. rm maybe I should reword that Anyway I improved 1-1 by 27 frames, I figured out a way to kill a snail-thing and a bouncy-thing to get the Changer item to appear much sooner. The rest of this WIP goes through 2-1. 1-3 I went on top to avoid a staircase which would've wasted muuuch more time, since those are impossible to climb without losing all of your momentum if they're larger than one jump, as is shown in 2-1's ending. I'm curious if there's a path up top that will help me avoid that, though, so I'll check that first. Anyway just wonderin how you all think it looks so far. If this is fine, I can probably go the whole rest of the game without a WIP.

Good heavens, I just noticed how empty the workbench forum has been getting, awesome work, guys! Also, I enjoyed this improvement, that ladder glitch sure did help.

Wow, good stuff. However, the program's title still says Dega 1.11. Also a player can speed up and speed down but there's no button to go directly back to 1x speed. Just a suggestion. Good catch on the frame count hiding fix. Also, yay my Psycho Fox WIP still works. --edit: I also wondered about how to put author info in because I just realized I never did that for the WIP. I found it, though, in Video->Properties just now. Different way to do it, but I like it. What other really big things could be used here? Memory viewing, watching, and stuff? I love that in FCEU.

For some reason, I want to work on this one first. It's an awesome game, and pretty hard, due to its funky movement system. I only ever made it to 2-1 yesterday, but with some save states yesterday I beat it and thought to myself, this might work for a TAS. Hopefully the jump noise doesn't get irritating, you're going to hear it a LOT. http://thatdenny.googlepages.com/PsychoFoxUE.mmv Stage 1-1, only stopping to pick up the bird and a bonus to change into the faster running tiger. At first I thought when the bonus came out of a kill was random, but at least on this playthrough it was already set. I might check again later if changing the time I start the level makes the bonuses change from kill to kill, but for right now it was set to Invincibility for 6th kill, Changer for 8th. I will test if there's a changer in an egg along this route and if it's early enough in the stage that stopping momentum again to pick it up would save frames by the tigers fast speed. This stage, without any planning, took me about 20 minutes to do, so I don't think the whole run would take toooo long to grind out. Question is whether the movie file format/syncing will still line up between any further dega releases.

I keep hearing about dega not playing as many games as meka and others. What games don't work with dega? Is there a list somewhere or some examples to work with?

It does work, for me anyway, though I'd suggest making the emulation pause when opening a menu--or at least making it a configurable option later. I didn't look up what hotkey there was for savestate loading/saving if there was one, so I had to remember to pause everytime I wanted to grab the menu. otherwise, yeah, those conditions you're looking to hit are just what I'd want personally before I started something serious, some memory peeking would be nice but that can come later.

So far I've tested it on Rampage and Psycho Fox, and both crashed. File names were no larger than 'Psycho Fox (UE) [!].dgz.' Both times I was in the middle of recording, paused or not. I'll test if it happens when not recording.-works fine --Testing recording again: It worked on Alex Kidd in Miracle World! Shortened filename to just 'alex' and made sure it was always paused, and it works fine. --works on Rampage, now, as well when recording. As far as I know, the only thing I did differently now was put 'ramp' as the filename for the save state and the movie. Rerecording works great. --Here, have a movie testrun for Rampage. Found a glitch, tried to figure out how to make it work, figured it out, realized it's useless and incredibly annoying to the viewer, won stage without ever attacking anything. Here. You can test if it syncs between Windows and Linux versions or somenut, or even just between Windows computers. Uses (UE) [!].

Works fine so far as far as recording and playing back movies are concerned, but it crashes whenever I try to load a save state. Still, this is very promising

Oh dear sweet heavens, if you can get this technique to work on Shining Force 2 I will gladly TAS it with haste, it's one of my favorite RPGs and is VERY deserving of a run of this level of ass-kickingness

I liked it. Nice glitch to cut the run down drastically, speedy play through the rest. Unremarkable, but short, sweet, and not unpleasant.

This was an entertaining run the whole way. It was pretty much the same thing over and over, and yet each level was unique enough (bouncing off meat hooks haha) and there was so much friendly fire (I always laughed) that the movie worked out fine.

I've seen a 100% famtasia tas from a japanese site. It was nice, couple glitches, but, damn, boring. and I LOVE this game.

Same here, I enjoyed the movie pretty well. I tried the European version to see what the changes were, and actually it seems slower without much entertainment gain, though the J version's celebration voice is a looooot more grating Also, when I tried the E version and got to the bonus stage, it seemed like I could hammer the lady. ERr sorry, hit the lady with the hammer. Anyway, I think it lowered my Count...count. If it did, you could use that to save time in the movie while still being entertaining. Killing all the enemies in the second bonus stage without them ever appearing was pretty entertaining as well, though. Good work I say

Never heard of this game, but it sure looks like an interesting one to play. The run is good, but clearly improvable throughout on the very small scale; also, I just watched the second time of you beating on those...termites? chewing on tree roots? and the last one, you attacked twice while it was on the vine (you can do that? Would it not have been faster to do it more often?) and your shot made you hit the wall and do another of those dizzy periods. Seemed like a huge waste of time. So yeah. Haven't finished the run, but you're doing a good job on the whole, but the details, the frame by frame, seems improvable from time to time. For all I know, that may be my inexperience with the game talking. All together, I like the movie/game and wouldn't complain about it being published at all, for what I've seen so far that is.
