This may be a long shot, but it could be an empty frame past your last input. With Bizhawk, a blank input is always viewed after the last input is made. This is done to open up a spot for selecting the next button press. I suppose the only way to clear this blank frame is to open it up in a text viewer. I can do this in Bizhawk, but I tried opening up your FCEUX file and it doesn't operate the same, since bizhawk contains all the files in a "Zip" format. So, I know very little about your chosen emulator and how it records the "input" file....but that could be a place to start.

wow, I never knew a hack like this existed. I rarely watch TASes all the way to the end, before I make my decision to vote. This one...I had to see all of it! :P The only part that I was hoping to see was a split between Mario and Luigi at the end with Bowser...where one jumps over and the other walks under. That would have been neat. Anyway, Yes vote.

I have the same issue... that is why I chose to TAS this game :) it feels like a brand new way of playing the same story, but with a multiplayer component that is asynchronous and much deeper than a second controller!

On the first level at least, many enemies block your attacks until they attack first. The goal is to quickly block then counter-attack. After the first level this mechanic doesn't show up until the wrestler fights later on, and I'm swiping the sword largely to avoid hits and create space rather than outright kill. On a technical level, I am still figuring out lag frames I think, and why certain inputs required two frames of held input (chopping grass) while regular attacks sometimes only needed one tap, depending on the actions of enemies and other sprites on the screen. For safety I used a two-frame attack hold almost everywhere that I was not sure it was necessary (no lag frames anywhere). I had more time to focus on consistent timing for the bosses, which had less lag frames overall as well, but I have some stuff to learn before I optimize the run to each enemy. Some enemies also have random health I think? At least on the first level... There were also moments with multiple enemies on the screen where it was better to wait an extra few frames for a second enemy's invicibility to wear off, then attack two at once with a rotating swipe :)
Ok...great. Thanks. I also like the fact that you are focused on reducing lag. Year ago, I started to see more and more TASers focusing on lag reduction. I wasn't one of them, but I soon started to realize the beauty of reducing them and the skill it takes to accomplish it.

I usually am criticized for misusing the "Voting" on submission, but this time...this game gives me a sense of nostalgia and makes me want to relive some of my games I played way back then. Because most games do not entertain me anymore. Now to my analysis. I have never played this...so I'm not sure what I'm analyzing. I do notice that you take longer to dish out hits on some enemies, but bosses...you can deliver them immediately after the I-frames have dissipated. Can you explain this? I'm giving you a Yes vote, for entertainment...only because game-boy games, of this kind, certainly give me great memories.

As for the Fast Load, that would be only for Disk Drives...where all Pins were used on the cable...instead of one. The Tape drive had its own socket, which was painfully slow.

I had to think about this and I finally figured out an exact number! I have a ton of backup files and I found the last BK2 before I started running the BOT. It has 109678 re-records in it. So, if you add 6472, which is the amount of work done to create the "Template" inputs, you would get: 116150 re-records. This includes 3 "run-throughs" (after discovering more each effort on optimizing this game) and all the RNG input creations for the templates needed for the BOT. Thankfully, I kept good notes and retained all of my project backup files.

The only manual inputs come from two different efforts. 1. The first round was manipulated manually with a different method before it was visible. 2. The "Solving" inputs were made manually, upon finding a desirable pattern. So the only BOTing occurred to get different patterns to show upon the next round, by injecting D/ Right-Left/ A-B inputs alongside of the "Solving" inputs.

Well...thank you very much. I am well aware of your effort on the NES and have watched it to see how the C64 and NES compare. As you aware, the two are dramatically different in mechanics and how the game runs the obstacles on each room.

One more thing...I find it curious that it happens right above the value 32768...which if you are at 33,000 it will count down to 32700 before speeding up. So, it appears that a 16 bit signed value is being played with...which means that it could be seeing "0" and not applying the acceleration. I guess the makers never thought that someone would clear a screen that fast.

No, that was so long ago. I started looking at debugging other games...maybe a year ago? But never with this one.

When encoding a movie, does the starting frame and ending frame get captured. I often wondered this, since you start on frame zero, which isn't anything...so it makes me wonder if the encoding stops when it reaches the end frame, with nothing captured. I've tried to confirm this with visual queues but I guess I don't have a good playback app to look at individual frames.
