Anguish Lagoon's done Notes: - It does seem Rayman's position during the ride affects how fast the level goes by. I did two quick tests where I hugged the left and the right edge of the screen during the speed-up parts, and the latter proved to by faster by a whole 36 frames (I don't know how much lag factored in this, though). There indeed is a frame-rule for touching the goal, but I haven't been able to figure the actual pattern to it yet. Well, that's it for now. Not really looking forward to Bongo Hills. Likely gonna be the most boring stage in the game, especially because I'll have to go through it twice.

I quite honestly can say I was blown away. Real nice to read the subtitles, they also gave an interesting insight. A thousand yes votes from me.

Alright, after watching this (syncs only with the Dinomar/Yidi patch btw), the run looks well optimized, although maybe while flying, you could have avoided bumping into walls. The hack apparently is incomplete though, so "No" for the very same reason as sgrunt. Anyway, who did make this run now, you or Hadron?

So, "in 16:42" is a new category of runs, I see? Will we see more games "in 16:42"? Either way, while a Mario hack always is interesting, I'm gonna wait for an encode before I vote.

I have an old PS2 keyboard, and I had this problem where multiple arrow keys at once wouldn't be registered. Switching to the numeric keypad partially fixed this issue.

Speaking of, the PSX controller had four individual buttons instead of a D-Pad. Does L+R/U+D also work there?

I'm currently struggling on optimizing the Moskito ride (either I'm struggling, or I'm just horribly lazy), still, Moskito speeds up at two points, and I don't know wether it's based on the position of the screen or the one of Rayman. For the Moskito Fight itself, the fastest way I found is to jump into him below when he approaches the center of the screen, where you have a small window (1 - 2 frames perhaps) where you can land a punch on him before you take a hit. After that, it's mostly hitting him the first frame possible. I've also realized it's probably faster to get the second cage in AL 2-1 on the first run, because of the fact that hitting the exit sign saves all your cages. Since all cages I can't get on the first run are in AL 2-1, it'll save a good bit of time on the cage roundup. On that note, I'd say it's faster to get the last cage in Moskito's Nest with the running power. It'll waste some time on the world map, but the running likely will more than make up for it. I did a quick test. It is possible to get up to the ledge earlier than in your video (using a boost from the plum on the tree on the second island). The fastest way out would likely be a deathwarp. Dropping down in the water would work, but may take too much time. Alternatively, I could get hit by the prickled berries and let the first enemy kill me. However, with the running power, I can already jump to the second island after the first, so that means, only one or two hits. I'll have to get hit by the others at some other place.

Don't see why not. Then however, it's probably better to have a handpicked screenshot that shows the game better.

You could try MSN/Windows Live Messenger. It does let you paste pictures right into the chat box, even those copied straight from MS Paint.

There had been a lot of debate about this already when the run was published, and ultimately, the old run is still on this site, so why bother? /Also, earthbound has its own thread, this rather belongs there.

Well, in my opinnion, the restrictions must add another element of interest (e.g. showing more off the game in 100% runs, getting the fastest completion with another character who lacks some of the moves of a faster one, etc.). I haven't seen this one yet (waiting for an encode), so I can't tell wether this one really is worth publishing.

It's caused by input delay I think. Simply enough, just release → two frames earlier and you should be good.

Alright, here's the newest run. I improved a whole 9 frames on PPW 1-3 by positioning the plum better so I hit the goal earlier. Anguish Lagoon is a pretty annoying level, with lots of dullness I can't help with. I'm probably gonna redo the entire level. This is more of a test run and here to help illustrate some of my notes below: Well, here are some notes: AL 2-1 - I am unsure how to approach the first plum the best. You have to punch it to get it to move. You can't reach the second plum instantly, so this gives me one of the rare opportunities to show Rayman's tongue-stick out animation, which will get replaced with the running ability once I get it. - I only get one cage, as opposed to CaD, who took a slight detour to get another one in his run. Again, I want to save it for the running power. I'll need to check however, how many Frames Rayman needs turning around in midair running and not running to determine what is faster. - The fastest way to get past the first hunter is to stop walking for exactly one frame, then continue and proceed to jump over him. - The Moskito fight I don't think has a lot of optimization potential, except for more showing off tricks while he's idling. - I most likely could've placed the first punch earlier though. When Moskito dies, Rayman moves to a predefined spot to do his victory animation. I'll need to check wether it's faster already standing at that place or not. - The Moskito Ride scene is woefully boring, with little I can do to splice it up, except maybe getting close to prickled berries. - Moskito controls very unresponsively though, so it's damn annoying to do so. - I avoid any Speed Fists, because they will make plum boosting quite a bit harder, which I likely will need at least once more. - Don't think there's any way to reach the goal faster other than to hug the right edge of the screen. - Don't think there's anything in the Betilla scene to be improved. Perhaps I could approach that ledge from a different angle to grab on to it quicker, but I don't think so. Well, any comments would be highly appreciated.

Now, I have never heard of the Playdia before, but apparently, it's an obscure Japan-only console from 1994 with mostly edutainment games, as a quick Wikipedia search shows. While having more emulators is always nice, I guess this console is a too obscure to non-Japanese people for anyone to bother with working on an emulator. Also, are there any remarkable games with any TASing potential for the system?

Sorry for the double post, but here's the WIP so far. I can't seem to be able to beat CtrlAltDestroy's run of the third segment of Pink Plant Woods, I'm always lagging behind by roughly three seconds. (Cage opening animation takes roughly three seconds. The first cage can also be triggered by running power + helicopter, so I'm not sure wether its faster to get it right away or trigger it with the plum. The former will save me a lot of headache trying to get it right, though). I think it's about time for me to learn how to use Ram Watch and find the x speed value. /Okay, I've improved PPW3. Now I'm at 6480 frames with only 2 cages collected. It seems every plum has this one very spot you need to hit to get it to ludicrous speeds. Perhaps there's still a frame to be saved, especially with the second plum going uphill, but for now, I'm very satisfied with the result. And here's the encode, if you're interested.

In my opinnion, such a thing just falls within the gap between non-assisted runs and TASes. They have no point, because they lack both the appeal of non-assisted runs (as fast as a human can do it) and TASes (as fast as the game allows). Perhaps "Tool Assisted Walkthrough" may be a better category for such runs, but this is certainly not what belongs on this site.
