Going by that, limiting threads at 4 or 5, if you don't trust auto, would bring no adverse effects.
The motivation for settings --threads low, recently, has been to allow us to run several encodes simultaneously. If I'm not attempting that, I just leave it alone. As with most of the other options, it's up to the encoder.

This desyncs for me; a game over occurs during the second set. Did you use any special firmware settings or change anything else that might affect playback? That having been said, what I've seen suggests this is largely cutscenes / waiting for the next game to start and the balance is extremely technically simple gameplay which goes on for a very long time. As such, it's terminally boring to watch. I vote no.

I'll take the opportunity to remind people that there is no such thing as a perfect encoding script; many of the options there just happen to be what we have found work well for reducing file sizes - in particular, most of the options there were chosen with the intent of using --crf 20 (our de facto standard for most encodes). If you're interested in tighter encoding standards, do try out the above, but I strongly recommend using a substantially lower value of --merange for speed purposes (64 tends to be the upper limit in practice, though you can probably get away with values as low as 16; at some point I will probably investigate the speed-to-size tradeoff there). EDIT: If you want even faster encoding, use --me umh instead of --me tesa; this will result in a small file size penalty. It's up to you where you want to draw the line; personally I would prefer a slightly larger encode available at publication time than a slightly smaller encode that we need to wait an extra few days for (especially notable for very long encodes).

Hi everyone: I have created this forum to serve as a central place for discussion about creating the high quality videos that we need for our publication process. If you're interested in helping out, a good place to start would be the Encoding Guide, which has several guides to the process our current encoders and publishers most commonly use, in addition to the Encoder Guidelines and, to a lesser extent, our Publisher Guidelines. If you have questions, ask them here! Also, our dedicated publishers and many of our encoders hang out on IRC, so if you would like a faster response to your questions and concerns. Good luck, and thank you!

Of course we are. It's the job of the site staff to be as evil as possible. Just ask Nach.

For the record, my thoughts on this are the same as for the recently cancelled submission (meh vote).

It looks like archive.org failed to derive the movie properly. I'll see if re-deriving it helps.

Normally the site provides an archive.org streaming link, but that requires that the link be entered in correctly (which I have addressed) and that the streamable encode derived from the original also exists (which I can't address; Omni will need to do that).

If you're referring to encodes that are uploaded to YouTube, DailyMotion, etc., this is standard practice. Was there a specific case you had in mind?

Absolutely. If all is well, you might even be able to reuse the boss fights from the current run.

It's there now - thanks for the heads-up. (The recurring bug causing this has been fixed, by the way.)

The added speed is both fun to watch and a significant and obvious improvement. Yes vote. Encode: http://www.archive.org/download/VboyVirtualBoyWarioLandByAdelikatIn1839.56/vbwarioland-tasv2-adelikat.mp4

The map screen lag reduction makes this worth publishing by itself, but the rest of the gameplay is solid, too. I think this should be published, but I also think that waiting for the proper 0.9.6 release is a good idea (as I understand it, this hasn't been done only because the person responsible for 64-bit builds hasn't made a build yet). Nevertheless, yes vote.

r10.7 has just been uploaded to TASTools, containing a series of fixes over a series of minor intermediate revisions. Major bugs fixed include a Win32 issue of not being able to save to the same slot more than twice and a lockup when attempting to dump audio. For an exhaustive list of bugs fixed, please consult the change log (it's in the source code).

Locking this thread. Note that I probably would have done this anyway, as discussion is going nowhere.

Er... Why? Nothing's wrong with the present system, as far as I can tell. Also, admins are already those that appoint moderators.

TAS conditions appear to offer nothing here other than pure speed, and the game doesn't last long enough to make that interesting in the slightest. Also, the game looks hideous. Voting no.

I don't think that this game is varied enough to be particularly entertaining. Yes, the rapid fire fisticuffs are entertaining - once, but seeing the same strategy over and over again gets old fast. Were this game capable of yielding a run more like the Punch-Out runs (as in, the fastest possible strategy was more than just rapid fire punching) this would be more suitable for a TAS. As it is, I vote Meh. There is an encode on the way, however.
