Author's comments and explanations:
After Burst is a game where you control a robot to shoot down enemy bases. This run completes the "VS" mode of the game.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.4
  • Fastest time
  • Uses deaths to save time
  • This game is a laggy mess

I realized I messed up the previous run after I discovered that you can change your aim with up/down. The main improvements come from decreasing the amount of down time between shots.

Stage by Stage comments

Stage NPC 1 HP NPC 2 HP NPC 3 HP
1 2 0 0
2 3 0 0
3 2 0 0
4 2 0 0
5 5 0 0
6 5 0 0
7 8 0 0
8 2 3 0
9 2 2 0
10 2 2 0
11 3 5 0
12 3 5 0
13 3 8 0
14 3 3 3
15 8 0 0

The first stage has 1 soldier, with 2 health. Soldiers jump whenever you jump, or if there's an obstacle in their way. They move back and forth from left to right of the stage, and shoot at you when you're straight ahead of their view. Rather simple stage, just shoot them twice and they're down.

The soldier now takes 3 hits to defeat. It has the same behavior as previously, so the only tricky part was getting close as possible to get rid of the bullet as soon as possible, since there cannot be more than 1 bullet by you in the screen at a time.

This is the floating platform from the story stages, but unlike the story mode, they cannot be landed on. They also move around left and right through the stage, and can go vertically if blocked.

This is a new enemy exclusive to VS mode. They move diagonally across the screen, "bouncing" the opposite direction every time they hit a wall or floor, and can also shoot at you. They're much more dangerous than the other NPCs due to their movement, but they only have 2 health.

This is a new enemy exclusive to VS mode. They float across the screen, shooting 3 bullets at once under them. Despite their limited range, they have 5 health, so they were annoying to beat.

This is a new enemy exclusive to VS mode. The move across the screen, and can go vertically if blocked. They shoot 2 bullets diagonally, and have 5 health as well, making them much more difficult than other stages.

This is a new enemy exclusive to VS mode. They have 8 health, and can shoot 3 bullets at once. They move across ground, and can go vertically if blocked. Due to the stage layout, I was able to hide below them and attack. There's probably an improvement possible by reducing the times they shoot at you to reduce lag.

This time, there's 2 soldiers. To minimize the amount of bullets used, it's better to lure them together to hit both at once. I was unable to do that for the first hit, so there may be an improvement on that (reduce 1 bullet by hitting the 3 HP soldier once, then both soldiers twice)

There's a soldier, and a flying platform. I wasn't able to bring them together, so I had to use 4 bullets. Due to their placement, I have no idea if reducing it to 2 bullets would save time.

I almost managed to bring them together for 2 attacks, but failed. If that were possible, I could save a hit in this stage.

Pretty good stage; managed to bring the 2 NPCs together 3 times, so I only need to shoot 5 times.

There's probably a way to bring the 2 NPCs together, while reducing the wait time. I wasn't able to find a faster route however.

I was only able to get the 2 NPCs together once, so I used 10 hits to defeat them. It's probably possible to save time to reduce at least 1 more bullet.

The wait was awful, but still faster than not waiting and shooting the soldier 9 times.

This is the 1st boss of story mode. It's now the final boss of VS mode.

Memory: Claiming for judging.

ThunderAxe31: File replaced with a version that syncs on BizHawk 2.4 and has a correct CycleCount value.

Memory: The improvement is good, but the game is still really slow without any real variation to it.

Accepting to Vault as an improvement to [2864] GB After Burst (JPN) "1P VS mode" by jlun2 in 05:42.74.
