Movement
The best way to accelerate from a stop is to acquire running state and jump. The best way to move horizontally is to jump all the time or to slide several times before your last slide will be canceled by a ledge. That last slide should last for about 10 frames. After sliding off a platform Kirby loses his running state. When he is about to land on the ground without running state, the best way to aquire running state again is to blow up, spit out and begin running. It is often equally fast to just land, walk for a frame and then begin running (good in situation where there's not much horizontal space). You can run by pressing >, v, >.
Keep momentum while blowing up
Beginning from the frame you press A to blow up, let go of the directional buttons. Beginning from the frame you press B to blow out, you can press directional buttons again.
Going through cannons
You can run towards a cannon and crouch to slide through it. This works because the cannon's hitbox is somewhere in the upper half of its sprite.
Climbing ladders faster
When climbing ladders, Kirby's upward speed isn't constant. For maximum speed, climb for 6 frames, then let go or wait and then climb for another 6 frames.
Skip Dark Kirby
For some reason, you don't always encounter Dark Kirby. You won't have to deal with him and thus skip him. This seems to be a random bug and can't be properly manipulated to happen. One would have to redo several rooms before this encounter several times in order to have a chance of getting this trick to work.
Gain distance with enemies that grab Kirby
Enemies like Cookin or Phan Phan will grab Kirby. You can gain distance if you kill such enemies the frame they grab Kirby (by hitting them with your ability's attack or with an air pellet).
Keeping your horizontal momentum when bumping into a wall
If you are about to bump into a wall, you can start facing the other direction in order to keep your momentum.
Wheel Kirby
As Wheel Kirby, you can use this to skip your backward movement when going into Wheel form. This only works as long as you are next to the wall. So jump towards the wall, face away from it and press "B" and the directional key towards the wall.
In the image on the right, three possible strategies are shown to get onto a new ground as Wheel Kirby. The left clip is the standard strategy while the clip in the middle is using the "skip backwards movement" trick. Using this trick is often faster but there might be an even faster way as the clip on the right shows.
Wheel Kirby: Driving through enemies
Due to how the game works, when driving through an enemy you will either hit him 4 times or 2 times. Each hit has 3 frames of hitlag. Hitlag is bad because you won't experience any forward movement, so it should be minimized if possible. It is mostly dependant on whether the ground is even or not, the size of your enemy, and sometimes its hitbox and its movement. It may sometimes be impossible to get a 2*3 outcome even if the enemy is tiny and not moving.
Reducing hitlag frames from 4*3 to 2*3 is done by altering Kirby's position (often at the beginning of a room). For example, you can move forward for 3 frames, go into wheel form and then only experience 2*3 hitlag frames instead of 4*3, which saves 3 frames.
Skipping the 'spitting puff of air'-animation
This is a glitch that will allow Kirby to skip the animation when he blows out so you will be normal immediately. The rate at which this bug occurs is set, but seems to depend on your movements. It will work sometimes if you are floating in a direction, but if you quit proceeding into that direction it won't work anymore for that specific frame it would have worked at. One needs to use trial-and-error for this trick to work.
Missile Kirby and UFO Kirby: Move partially inside a ceiling
When moving towards the corner of a ceiling with proper positioning, you might get stuck inside the ceiling for a short time. You can stay inside the ceiling using Missile and UFO, but you will be ejected when pushing towards the ceiling.
This is useful for various situations.
Get Wheel ability or Fighter ability from golems
Golems are obviously stone enemies and will give you stone when absorbing their ability. Some golem enemies, however, will give you wheel or fighter. It depends on whether they performed a special move at the time Kirby inhales them. Golems can only perform either a stomping attack, a rolling attack or an uppercut punch. There is only one single golem in the game known to be able to perform all three moves. He is in room 22 of
this map.
Going into Missile form
When going into Missile form, Kirby will move backwards slightly before he starts moving forward. You can press the opposite direction of where you want to go to save time.
You can even try out combinations of directions in order to move into a direction while building up speed into another direction.
About luck-manipulation
You can luck-manipulate certain enemies to go out of your way or to otherwise behave as you desire. It's often dependent on timing, otherwise on your movements (starting to run, going the other direction while running, crouching while you run). This kind of luck-manipulation can be done before entering a new room.
