Rad is a slang term, short for radical. This movie shows what radical sports is when applied to car driving on NES.

Curiously, the game Rad Racer was made by Square, which is probably best known for its Final Fantasy game series. Quite a different game, this here...

If you decide to play this game, we recommend the Power Glove. It's so bad.

Chrono Trigger is a long RPG that typically takes hours to days to complete. We already have one tool-assisted speedrun of this game.

However, this movie is different, because it starts from New Game +, which means that the equipment and character stats are preserved from a previous game completion. This run uses a save file which is specifically optimized for an optimal New Game + completion of the game; thus this run should be considered more a concept demo than a rule-conforming TAS.

This beats the game with perfect characters and best equipment in a very short time. The actual time from power-on until the death of the last boss is only about 7.5 minutes, but the ending demo does not start until the Dream Team scene (part of the ending) is completed.

The micro gate in the rightside teleporter is only available in New Game +.

Note: the AVI has been replaced due to incorrect time information.

From the opposite side of the usual formula of breaking a game to reach the credits as fast as possible, Saturn finishes Chrono Trigger in a single pass while trying to get as much done as possible without glitching the game out and spending too much time grinding. Consequently this video actually looks like an otherwise normal playthrough by an extremely skilled player.

This run aims for maximal completion within reasonable constraints that don't sacrifice entertainment too much. This includes:

  • All forms of Spekkio except the highest level (Pink Nu) are defeated
  • All Tabs (stat upgrade items) that do not respawn are collected
  • All characters' Techs are learned
  • All the sidequests mentioned by Gaspar are completed (to the point he no longer mentions them)
  • At least 1 of every equipable item is collected

It isn't technically possible to do everything possible in Chrono Trigger without New Game+ and resetting a few times, but this run aims to get most of it done.

Some very heavy experience grinding occurs between 2:16:45 and 2:26:18. Viewers may wish to skip through this segment of the video.

Shapeshifting dogs. Evil robots. Alchemy. Cheesy B movie references. These are all par for the course in Secret of Evermore, a very loose "sequel" to Secret of Mana. The story follows a boy that is thrust into a virtual world and finds himself with no immediate means to escape. As the boy travels, the geography changes to reflect certain eras of real-life history, adding a unique aspect to the game.

The author has aimed for fastest time with 100% completion.

Super Metroid is a game that requires very little introduction. Samus Aran, a bounty hunter, returns to the planet of Zebes, in order to explore its depths, and defeat Mother Brain and the Space Pirates.

This movie sees the reinstatement of the in-game category, which was previously merged with the realtime run. Despite being slightly slower in terms of real time, this speedrun is both extremely optimised and breaks previous records once thought to be the limit of the game. The completion time stands at 0:22:38, and is displayed at the end of the game as 0:22, considered the lowest minute breakpoint attainable without resorting to game-breaking exploits... at least until another run comes and smashes that expectation to bits, as they often have here at TASVideos.

Super Metroid is a game that requires very little introduction. Samus Aran, a bounty hunter, returns to the planet of Zebes, in order to explore its depths, and defeat Mother Brain and the Space Pirates.

In this run, Saturn completes the game with the minimal amount of items, without skipping bosses or major glitches, which was considered "legit conditions" by the community. This movie had a notable flame war about its acceptability, see the discussion thread. Its submission also was revived and rerejected several times in a row.

Super Metroid is a very well-known game in the world of TASing, and there have been many speedruns of this game published here at TASVideos over the years. This run demonstrates one of the hardest categories of speedrun possible for the game, Reverse Boss Order. In this category, Samus kills the four main bosses backwards from the game's intended order.

This category is especially difficult since Samus does not receive her extra suits until quite late in the run. As a result, most of the gameplay in Norfair is a desperate race against the clock as Samus's health decreases constantly in the heated areas. Needless to say, every single energy tank matters much more than it ever would in a normal run. Also, water areas in Maridia are quite difficult to navigate quickly without the Gravity Suit.

This run by Saturn improves on the previous movie by 1:24.26 due to a number of new tricks and strategies. See the submission notes for more details.

Super Street Fighter II is a fighting game produced by Capcom, originally released as a coin-operated arcade game in 1993. It is the fourth game in the Street Fighter II sub-series, following Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting.

This movie focuses more on pulling off crazy combos and showcasing Zangief's big repertoire of throws than beating every opponent as fast as possible, since that would just lead to the same few combos being used over and over.

Please read the welcome page if you haven't already done so. It explains the rules and methods that apply to all of these movies, particularly the use of savestates and frame advance. Also refer to our Glossary to understand terms we use, such as TAS or other unfamiliar terms.
