Super Mario World is a game which needs no introduction.

This movie beats the previous SMW movie by a mere 3 seconds. Strategically, this is very similar to the previous movie, but a new technique which involves keeping flight status through doors and pipes saved the majority of the time. This game is now extremely tightly optimized to minimize lag between levels.

This movie is a joint venture between Fabian and JXQ, but small and big optimizations were contributed by several people: skamastaG, thegreginator, mrz, jimsfriend, Flagitious and Arne_the_great.

Time for JXQ to join the Super Mario World TAS authors' group.

This movie beats the previous SMW movie by mere 4 seconds ― which is a lot considering how the difference was gained.

Strategically, this is exactly the same movie as the previous one, but there are new techniques that dive directly into how the game works. The author has of course explained them here.

In accordance with standard procedure, Samus discarded all of the items she collected on previous adventures before embarking on this one. This run aims for 100% item collection in the fastest time.

Super Metroid has a wide variety of time-saving glitches to exploit, many of which are explained on the SuperMetroidTricks page.

The in-game completion time of this run is 00:37:54, but since game timers have never really been good at rounding things up, it is shown as 00:37 after the game has been completed.

If you prefer to watch the fastest completion without getting all the items, check out Super Metroid in 39:32 by hero of the day.

NEW: Added a second AVI file that shows the gamepad input on top of the game video. The author has hidden some secret messages in it that might be interesting to see!

This game is a very well done and thorough hack of Super Mario World, adding an entire new set of levels, a new world map, and even ASM-coded several other interesting features into the game's engine, such as a blue block that can only be broken with firepower. The layout of the game takes full advantage of both the mechanics of Super Mario World and the additions of Super Demo World, and the levels can get extremely complicated.

Surprise Super Mario Bros 3. improvement from nowhere!

Apparently, the team of adelikat, Deign, Cardboard and JXQ had been working some time on this movie, which improves the previous movie by some 5.5 seconds (no small feat at this point), due to a wide variety of different improvements discussed in the submission message.

And of course, a wadload of extra lives are again achieved in the mandatorily slow autoscrolling levels.

For those that still prefer to see 99+ lives, the authors have also put together an alternate run that sacrifices time in order to gain those extra lives.

This game contains a Star World which contains themed levels that connect to various locations on the map. Like the original Super Mario World, these levels can be used as a makeshift warp zone. This movie demonstrates this path - navigating the Star World to charge straight to Bowser, leaving much of the game untouched.

This movie is a whopping 24 second improvement to the previous movie. Full list of changes can be read in the authors' comments.

This is not your ordinary hack.

Super Demo World is huge, refined, well-planned, surprising, and, at times, downright beautiful. This TAS aims to capture those same qualities with maximum speed. The discovery of new techniques, along with improvements of existing ones, pushed the envelope on what could be done quickly in Super Mario's world.

Although this movie doesn't use the magic whistles, it does skip stages, and actually skips them quite a lot, with the aid of various items such as the hammers.

In this run, JXQ makes good use of the various items available and performs many feats of wonder to practically fly or slide through the game, occasionally stopping to deliver a couple dozen of critical hits to a nearby boss. That said, it is the fastest paced GBA Castlevania run (despite being the longest of them all) — so if you like the series, this is the movie to watch.

However, if you still find this movie to be too long, make sure to see the second quest completed in less than half a minute!

Selected quotes from the author: Come follow on the adventure through a castle that contains no less than eighty clashing colors in each room! Be amazed as Juste Belmont, Simon's grandson, has to do the usual vampire hunting despite looking nothing like his grandfather (or a man at all). Question his motives when he takes time out of his rescue mission to decorate the basement he will soon destroy! Feel the pain as Juste struggles to understand that there actually are two castles!! Selected comments from the author: It is a gem of a platformer released only in Japan. The controls have some Prince of Persia in them, but are not as demanding. The music is great and the graphics are pretty good. I'm surprised the game was never ported to the US or Europe.

The bosses of this game can be difficult due to a glitch that improperly resets the boss's vulnerability after being hit in certain circumstances.

Kirby is a colorful game that's very long for a NES game. Normal gameplay forbids the UFO from being taken from level to level, but using a bug discovered by kirbymuncher, JXQ manages to keep the UFO, and blazes through much of the game using it. The speed with which he defeats midbosses and bosses is often very surprising.

Obsoletes movie #426 (09:50.97)
Rating: 6.7 (18 votes)
- Aims for fastest time
- Takes damage to save time
- Plays at hardest level
- Genre: Platform
A quick run-through of the first Kirby game ever released, which predates Kirby's ability to absorb enemy powers.

This run uses the 'Extra Game' password (up+select+A at title screen), which makes the enemies and bosses much more aggressive and damaging than usual.

This is a 32 second improvement over the previous movie by Spezzafer.

Obsoletes movie #67 (19:55.88)
Rating: 6.7 (22 votes)
- Aims for fastest time
- Takes damage to save time
- Manipulates luck
- Genre: Action
- Genre: Platform
Shatterhand is a bit like Batman. Just longer, and a lot laggier.

This movie by JXQ is about 108 seconds faster than the previous version by Juan Pablo López. Most of the improvement comes from finding clever ways to reduce the immense lag that this game experiences at some points.

River City Ransom is a goofy game that deserves a goofy TAS. This movie showcases cool tricks and some glitches that don't necessarily result in the fastest completion. Click here to see our other movie which aims more for speed.

Similar to the NES game of the same name, Rad Spencer must defeat evil using only his grappling hook hand and various big guns. The author abuses the grappling hook to move very quickly and through seemingly solid floor.

Jason and his magical jumping tank, "S.O.P.H.I.A.", are back, this time in glorious 16-bit graphics (and not so glorious sound). Much like its predecessor, the player must alternate between sidescrolling and overhead views to collect parts for the tank and vanquish evil.

This movie abuses death to a large degree to obliterate the game in record time.

Yo dude!

Skate Or Die 2 is quite an unpopular NES game, mostly due to the game sucking and the controls being unresponsive. Luckily, bad programming can work to one's advantage in a project like this. Luck manipulation is also a big part of getting through this game quickly.

Skate straight!
