The second quest of Zelda is what you get by having completed the game once. It is more difficult than the first quest.

In his movie, The authors enter ZELDA as the player's name to start the 2nd quest without having to complete the game first.

This movie is 4 minutes 13.6 seconds faster than the previous movie by Sleepz. The authors left detailed explanations of the time savings in their submission text.

Legend of Zelda (ゼルダの伝説) is an adventure game that needs no introduction to most NES players.

It is a large game that normally takes days to beat, but at TASvideos, we often reduce games to the minimum necessary in order to complete them.

This is the fifth Legend of Zelda TAS at this site (not counting the alternate movies), and is ~85 seconds faster than the previous movie, largely due to better optimization and manipulation of item drops.

A high speed racing game featuring rodents from another (nearby) planet. Although the author doesn't classify the velocity potential of the motorcycle as a programming error in the game, the speed at which he rips through the courses may make you wonder.

- Contains speed/entertainment tradeoffs
- Forgoes warps
- Heavy luck manipulation
- Genre: Puzzle
Arkanoid (1987) strongly resembles the arcade game Breakout (1976). In Arkanoid, the paddle is actually a spaceship, and the bricks are space walls. The goal of the game is to break through the space walls and defeat the villainous Doh in order to escape from the space labyrinth.

This incredible TAS of Arkanoid, made by Baxter, inspires awe in a manner comparable to the Gradius movie. No ball is ever lost, even though three balls are juggled in every level where possible.

- Genre: Puzzle
To the average player, Tetris is a fast-paced action/puzzle blend where reflexes become a huge factor as pieces pile up and speed increases dramatically. For one with perfect reflexes, however, it's no longer a challenge of 'where does the next piece go to make lines / avoid piling up?' so much as 'where can I put the next piece to make things look the most interesting?'.

This run exemplifies that philosophy, exploiting the ability to manipulate the next piece that appears to the fullest in the service of creating a pattern which would be nigh impossible to duplicate in real world conditions.

If you thought that TASing was only about speed, look no further than this example to prove otherwise.

- Takes damage to save time

- Heavy glitch abuse
- Genre: Adventure
Of all the challenging ways to play Legend of Zelda that people have attempted on a NES console, one of the most famous is the "swordless" challenge. In this challenge, the player must beat all of the game, up until the final boss Ganon, without using a sword. It is not possible to damage Ganon without a sword however, so many swordless runs reach Ganon's room to die there.

In order to actually complete the game, Baxter does pick up a sword and kills Ganon. However, the sword is only obtained shortly before attempting the final level, and even then, the sword is not used until absolutely necessary. In the meantime, sit back and watch a run which relies heavily on luck manipulation and effective bomb usage to beat the game very quickly. For more details, see the author's comments.

This is a 86-second improvement over the previous movie by jprofit22.

- Uses hardest difficulty

This movie completes the B-mode of Tetris at level 19-5. Its goal is to clear all blocks from the screen upon the final line cleared (known as a "Bravo" in some games). And of course it aims to do this as fast as possible.

Note: The author manipulates luck by pressing up+left+right to slow down the block's falling speed.

- One player in a multiplayer game
- Genre: Fighting
TMNT2 is a classic beat-em-up game with 4 classic main characters: Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello. The latter is the only turtle used in this movie.

This movie is Baxter's new and improved version, which is an astounding 4 minutes faster than his previous version. Donatello has learned the secret ninja art of teleportation and... no, actually, a glitch that enables the player to move around extremely fast is used to hit all the enemies as soon as they come on screen. But most of the improvement comes from outstanding luck manipulation.

This run exploits a programming error that allows the author to start playing from level 23. If you notice that there's nothing meaningful going on in the first minute of the movie, this is normal: the actual gameplay takes place only after triggering the "game over" screen.

See the author's comments for more information on this glitch.

- Genre: Platform
Award - Innovative TAS of 2007
The games Mega Man 3, 4, 5 and 6 are all the same. Eight robot masters are defeated and Mega Man steals their weapons. After some kind of distraction, Mega Man attacks Wily's fortress and it typically gets blown up. If you don't believe that's true, we offer this movie.

While driving home the point in honour of our first multi-game movie, Baxter and AngerFist prove that Capcom really has been making the same game over and over again by playing Mega Man 3, 4, 5 and 6 using the same input.

No attempt is made to synchronize the endings of these games. Mega Man 6 finishes first and Mega Man 4 finishes last.

The CPU demands for playback of this movie are unusually high. Systems under 1.2 GHz may struggle to play this video. The audio has been processed by adelikat for virtual surround sound.

We recommend sitting back as far as possible and looking (staring?) at the center of the screen when watching the AVI.

If you like this movie, you may like to check out other movies in which multiple games are played simultaneously with one controller.

Jackie Chan is not a particularly impressive game, except for its music, which is relaxing to listen to.

Jackie Chan has been played a few times on this site. Three times by Arc, once by Dan and now once by Baxter. Every submission was faster than the preceding one, and this movie is not an exception.

This movie is 27.5 seconds faster than the previous version by Dan, and also takes 100% less hits than the previous version. In other words, no damage was taken.

We recommend reading the author's notes of this movie.

- Genre: Puzzle
Adventures of Lolo (1989) was the first game of the Eggerland series that received a Western release. The series itself is rather loosely related to Kirby series: both have been developed by the same company (HAL Laboratory), and Eggerland protagonists Lolo and Lala make cameo appearances in Kirby games as Lololo and Lalala.

The goal of the game is to collect all hearts in every stage, then get the ball from the chest to open the door to the next room.

Lolo may seem simplistic, but it remains being a truly well-made puzzle. Finding optimal solutions to most of the rooms has proven to be a very nontrivial task, and every once in a while a new improvement is found.

As such, this is Baxter's 10th attempt at this game, this time 10.16 seconds faster than the previous. Eleven rooms have been improved.

Important! For the weak-spirited who aren't willing to watch the run all over again only for the improved rooms, the author has inserted an easter egg into the key input movie! If you run the same .fm2 on the NES game Defenders of the Crown, it will as well complete it in just 3 minutes and 38 seconds.

Use "Defenders of the Crown (U).nes" ROM to watch it.

Please read the welcome page if you haven't already done so. It explains the rules and methods that apply to all of these movies, particularly the use of savestates and frame advance. Also refer to our Glossary to understand terms we use, such as TAS or other unfamiliar terms.
