Super Mario Advance 2 is the port of Super Mario World to the Game Boy Advance. While similar to the original game in many respects, there are some subtle differences that matter for tool-assisted runs. A detailed rundown of tricks and level by level commentary can be found in the author's comments.

Kirby Super Star is normally a fairly long game split into a bunch of minigames, as the following run at TASVideos shows. However, in the Japanese version of the game, a glitch can be exploited on ladders that allows the player to basically take over the game's inner workings.

This run first goes to The Great Cave Offensive, since it has the first ladder that can be reached from a clean save. For many more technical details, read the author's submission comments.

"Thank you for playing Super Mario World! Unfortunately, this trial copy will only let you play for 1.5 minutes."

This is a completely new type of Super Mario World TAS. It beats the game by jumping to the credits from one of the two levels available from the start, Yoshi's Island 2. This happens because a glitch involving stunning a flying question block allows manipulating the code being executed by changing the position of sprites.

This run is 56.50 seconds faster than Masterjun's previous movie. For those who love to read the technical specifics of such runs, there are detailed author's comments about the new method used here. Suffice to say, 8 controllers are required to get this to work. See this run played back on a real console. If you want to see more movies like this, let this post be your guide.

Seven months after this TAS, Masterjun exploited the glitch used here to do more than just trigger the game's end; he used only controller input to embed his own games into Super Mario World itself.

"Thank you for playing Super Mario World! Unfortunately, this trial copy will only let you play for 2.5 minutes."

This is a completely new type of Super Mario World TAS. It beats the game by getting the "THE END" screen in the second level (Yoshi's Island 3). This happens because a glitch allowing Yoshi to eat "nothing" enables players to manipulate memory and code into bringing up the final screen of the game.

The heated discussion about the categorical separation regarding this movie and the recently published "no save corruption" TAS invoked the creation of the "Corrupts Memory" category.

The credits glitch has been verified on console using a modified version of this TAS made with the lsnes emulator.

Masterjun builds upon his previous work at destroying Super Mario World by programming some simple games inside it, using only controller input!

A technical explanation is available on the submission page.

This movie famously premiered via playback on a real Super Nintendo, at Awesome Games Done Quick 2014, as part of the first TASVideos presentation at a Games Done Quick event, which are hosted by SpeedDemosArchive.

This is the 3rd published movie in a category of impressively fast Super Mario World TASes. It beats the game by jumping to the credits from one of the two levels available from the start, Yoshi's Island 2. This happens because a glitch involving eating a Charging Chuck allows manipulating the code being executed by the game using only controller input.

This run is 57.75 seconds faster than Masterjun's previous movie. For more information on the new method used here, check out the clear and detailed author's comments.

For more movies like this, see this list of TASes that execute arbitrary code.

Using a similar glitch, Masterjun has also used mere controller input to embed his own games into Super Mario World itself.

This is a quick completion of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

The author abuses a glitch that lets him warp to any stage up to 6-8.

There is also a run without the warp glitch and 100% run.

This run is slower than the previous one because of differences between emulator timings. It's faster overall when those are taken into account. The new emulator has more accurate timings.

This is a quick completion of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Here, the author, Masterjun, abuses a glitch that causes Yoshi's tongue to extend infinitely. This confuses the game and causes it to jump to the SNES CPU registers and start executing arbitrary code, which triggers the credits.

There is also a run without game-breaking glitches and a 100% run.

Exploiting this glitch instead of a glitch that results in corruption of the egg list saved 1:19.26 over the previous movie.

In VVVVVV, the player controls Captain Viridian, who is lost in an alternate dimension, in search of the missing members of the spaceship's crew. Instead of jumping, the player is able to control the direction of gravity, allowing the captain to flip between the floors and ceilings of the environment. The graphical style of the game is heavily influenced by the Commodore 64.

This movie by Masterjun utilizes a glitch that increments the current game state to trick the game into warping to the end cutscene. The glitch is triggered by pressing the Escape key to bring up the quit prompt while a dialog box is onscreen. Masterjun also improves the previous run by 0.30 seconds by using general optimizations in movement and key-presses.

See the submission comments for more details. There is also a run in which the game is played more as intended.

In this run, Masterjun blazes to the ending in less than 13 minutes (12:33 according to the in-game timer), skips the fearsome Gravitron, and rescues the crew in a fraction of the length of the ship's regulated lunch break.

This run avoids using glitches that require pressing the Escape key. There is also a run that uses these glitches to beat the game even faster.

Instead of jumping, the player is able to control the direction of gravity, allowing Captain Viridian to flip between the floors and ceilings of the environment. The graphical style of the game is heavily influenced by the Commodore 64.

In the spirit of the retro games' secret hunt, 20 aptly named Shiny Trinkets are hidden throughout the game. The author makes sure to collect all of them in his movie.

Additionally, this TAS is completed on the game's no-death mode, which removes all the cutscenes and dialogues, as well as allows collecting a specific Trinket without having to die. Dying once on this mode prompts an instant game over, making it an especially brutal challenge in unassisted conditions. As this naturally prohibits the skips and glitches that abuse forcible deaths, it allows the audience to see the game in its entirety and, indeed, enjoy its level design and excellent chiptune-style soundtrack.

If you would like to see the game completed with no holds barred, make sure to check out the glitched any% and the game end glitch TASes that complete the game a lot quicker than one would have imagined!

Please read the welcome page if you haven't already done so. It explains the rules and methods that apply to all of these movies, particularly the use of savestates and frame advance. Also refer to our Glossary to understand terms we use, such as TAS or other unfamiliar terms.
