- Aims for fastest time

- Manipulates luck
- Second quest
- Starts from a predefined save
- Genre: Action
- Genre: Platform
Those who greatly dislike that Aria of Sorrow's main character isn't related to the Belmont clan whatsoever can safely relax, because the powerhouse known as Julius Belmont enters the stage in the relatively short run of this Castlevania installment.

Julius is only available to those who have completed the main quest, but unlike Soma Cruz, Belmont can't go through walls or use other fancy tricks like that. Being very upset about it, he hops around the castle madly, producing almost inhuman sounds with every jump.

The improvement of 61 seconds came from these new movement techniques and better boss fights.

Note: this movie starts where a main quest TAS left off. We do not usually accept movies beginning from a save. Please read our rules to see our reasons.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, beaten in less than half an hour from a new game without taking damage from anything.

The author skips getting the Undine soul and a decently-sized portion of the castle by using an edge-of-ledge oversight in the game's programming to gain a little extra height.

There is quite a lot of luck manipulation in this movie, but some familiarity with the game is required to notice it.

- Genre: Adventure
- Genre: Platform
When played normally, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is a rather long game, in which exploration, leveling up, and killing bosses in order to gain access to different items or portions of the castle is necessary. However, a bit of luck manipulation and a series of glitches involving DSS cards throw all these aspects of gameplay out of the window, allowing the player to warp directly to Dracula and kill him humiliatingly in just over 5 minutes.

This movie is a 21 frame improvement over the previous movie by the same author due to some small optimizations.

Joe Osugi, bizarre 'anti-terrorist ninja', is called in to assist the local police, who seem to be completely useless in rescuing some hostages.

The game is basically a series of rooms connected together. Your job is to rescue the hostages and then escape the stage through the red door. You have in your arsenal a three-level shuriken, a sword, and a grappling hook similar to the one from Bionic Commando. Joe also has two special abilities: to make himself invincible and to attack all enemies on screen.

This new version by nitsuja is 4 minutes and 13 seconds (!) faster than the previous one, effectively turning it into an orgy of ropeswinging acrobatics and ninja madness.

Super Smash Bros began a series of games that mixes characters from several Nintendo-made games in a unique fighting game. It relies not on wearing down the opponent's "life" but increasing damage until he or she can be literally knocked off the stage. Wildly popular, this game has inspired many lazy days of casual multiplayer gaming but also intense competitive tournaments that happen to this day.

We have seen several submissions for this game here but this is the first one to be published. The author shows off fancy fighting with Yoshi on the hardest difficulty. Rather than the usual goal of speed, this movie aims to be as entertaining as possible in the tradition of all fighting games here.

Another submission by the same author but which is based upon fastest completion time instead, can be watched via emulator movie at its submission page. There are also several other submissions of various quality that can be watched on an emulator.

- Genre: Platform
- Genre: Shooter
A rare instance of a Japanese-made NES game based on a U.S.-originated comic book, Bucky O'Hare (1992) provides a player with a good combination of platforming action similar to Mega Man, an interesting plot, and convincing production values. You can play as one of the five unique characters, which you are able to select freely at any time, after saving them from the clutches of the Toad Empire. Each character has special abilities required to take advantage of in order to pass through the game's numerous variably designed stages, ranging from single-screen puzzle rooms to autoscrolling shmups.

Interesting fact about this game is that Konami used to implement unconventional ways of piracy protection, in this particular case by making each hit or "wrong" collision in the game result in an instant death if you play it illegitimately. Apparently, this was how a large amount of people were used to play it in pre-emulation era, without even realizing Konami's little sabotage.

This movie by AnS is set up in a fashion that imitates this handicap by playing the game in hard mode (accessing it through a password), where every hit counts as death. Other than that, it also improves the previous movie by 2 minutes 48.7 seconds, using several major glitches and a lot of small tricks explained in great detail in the author's comments.

Kage no Densetsu (影の伝説) is a story based in old Japan. The beautiful princess Kiri has been kidnapped by evil ninjas. Many samurai warriors were sent to rescue her. None ever returned. The player is Kage, a young ninja who goes to rescue the princess Kiri.

Speedrunwise, this game is all about luck manipulation. Like any good ninja game, it hides many secrets inside, and the player (Bisqwit) set out to discover every one of them that is important in making a TAS. A detailed story of those secrets can be found in the submission message, but in conclusion it lead into this 28-second speedup compared to the previous movie by Walker Boh.

This little movie represents the hardest part of the game - Channel X, which normally appears as a secret bonus stage after the normal ending. This TAS however does not play through the entire game, but inputs a password in the beginning to access Channel X right away.

This 1-minute movie has all the ingredients needed for a good TAS: high-speed acrobatics involving a punchgun and unmotivated violence towards various types of canine.

A unique game to say the least, in Street Fighter 2010(completely unrelated to the fighting game series) the player must go through a series of levels, collecting enough powerups to warp from one to the next. In doing a tool-assisted run of the game, the author must properly plan what enemies to target and what order to target them in in order to progress as quickly as possible. The valiant knight Kuros, who has now grown eyeballs on the outside of his helmet, must again fight off the evil wizard Malkil. This task is accomplished mainly by finding an artifact in every level, giving it to a corresponding oversized animal to get into the level boss' lair, and promptly beating him up.

Ecco is a very original and hellishly hard game. You control Ecco the dolphin, navigating the waters, saving other trapped dolphins (which of course were left on their own here), finding key diamonds, schools of fish and pockets of air deep down in submarine caves.

Ecco is capable of moving at very high speed but has little in the way of brakes. Turning corners without smashing into walls is tricky to say the least.

This run takes no damage, despite the fact that this was not intended to be possible.

Knuckles' Chaotix is a Sonic game that doesn't feature Sonic.

The player is tied to a partner with an elastic band of ‘ring energy’. There are five selectable player characters, and seven partners. This run uses Knuckles as the primary character. Using a number of glitches (of which the most prominent is zipping through walls), most of the levels are completed tens of seconds faster than intended.

After each stage, the next level is selected via roulette. The cut-scenes and level select sequences are quite long, comprising about 66% of the total movie length. We recommend fast-forwarding these sequences of the movie.

This is our first ever published 32X game.

In Revenge of Shinobi, the prequel to Shinobi III, you play as a ninja (what else?) who is capable of destroying an entire army of other ninjas, soldiers, and Hollywood characters. The fast attack animation of the ninja (one of which throws fireballs everywhere) makes up for his lack of speed.

This game has a lot of bosses, to say the least. Because the author speeds through levels so quickly, the amount of time spent fighting bosses is actually greater than the amount of time completing the level in order to reach them.

This is a 7 minute 38 second improvement over the previous movie. Much of this improvement is simply due to defeating bosses more quickly. The author has left detailed comments about these improvements.

Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master is the last game in the Genesis Shinobi series, going back to the formula found in the first game after a fairly experimental second installation. The ninja, named "Joe" like many other of Japanese ancenstry, has increased his repertoire and can now run, jumpkick, scale walls, and ride horses.

This movie plays the hardest difficulty and starts with zero shurikens (although it picks some up during the run). Uses death as a shortcut is marked because Joe has the ability to sacrifice a life to damage all enemies on the screen.

Goof Troop (1993) is a cheerful puzzle game based on Disney show of the same name. The gameplay is somewhat similar to NES Legend of Zelda with its maze-like map filled with one-screen rooms, except this time the emphasis on puzzles is stronger, and you can play in co-op.

In this movie the authors control two characters (Goofy and Max) simultaneously. This allows for a good deal of team work as one character can go get an item while the other heads for the exit. When there is no multi-tasking to do, the authors do a good job performing antics with one or both of the characters.

This is a nearly 4 minute improvement over Frenom's previous movie. Improvements come from new tricks, better teamwork, luck manipulation and optimized movements.

Pugsley's scavenger hunt is an extremely fast paced game, which makes it difficult. It is made even more difficult by playing on the hardest setting, which gives Pugsley only one single heart, meaning that he dies in one hit. The movie itself looks very impressive and it really gives the impression that the player knows what he is doing.

The author uses a trick known as the wall-jump to climb vertical walls. This allows for many creative shortcuts.

Super Turrican (1993) is the fifth game of the Turrican series, popular in the times of C64 and Amiga. It features Contra-like run'n'gun action crossbred with Metroid-esque exploration-driven level design and character abilities, while also being quite colorful and having remarkable soundtrack.

This is a 77 second improvement over the previous movie by Pasky13, achieved mostly through optimized movement and weapon usage.

U.N. Squadron (1989) is a nice looking horizontal shoot-em-up loosely based on manga & anime series named Area 88 (which is also the name this game was released with in Japan), about a brave young pilot Shin Kazama and his experiences at a mercenary airforce base. Here you see Shin mercilessly slaughtering everything in his sight, and stuffing the bosses full with the heaviest artillery available — of course, not forgetting the usual suicidal dancing around the bullets in the meantime.
