Everyone who has at least once attempted to gather a soul from each of the 120 different enemies in Aria of Sorrow, especially during a speedrun, knows the frustration it incurs after a hundredth failed attempt to get the required drop. That just makes this all-souls TAS, in which the player beats the game on hard mode and without using glitch warps in a little less than 25 minutes, even more impressive.

Upon completing his warpless run, Kriole decided to take another jab at this category, improving upon his earlier effort by 51 seconds.

However, if you would like to see the game beaten to a pulp in a mere quarter of this time, don't miss the glitched run by klmz.

Note: While the player doesn't use glitch warps (neither by death nor by getting out-of-bounds using transform souls), he uses the normal warp rooms present in the castle.

Note: Starting from reset was necessary to use hard mode. However, doing so is normally not allowed — refer to the rules to see the reasons.

Nathan Graves is a vampire hunter trying to save his master, Morris, from the clutches of Dracula. Normally this would require collecting lots of different items as well as hours of leveling, but Cardboard proves collectible cards passé by gathering almost none of the cards required for spells and blazing through the game at warp speed without regard to levels or his own safety.

This movie is a 10.5 second improvement over the author's previous movie through various small & thorough optimizations.

For those interested in the areas of the game which this run skips, make sure to check out zggzdydp's run which achieves 100% map completion.

In this run of Sonic Advance, the author doesn't take advantage of the game-destroying spindash glitch featured in the normal run. It goes somewhat slower because of this, but new inventive solutions are used to get through each act, and the result is still much faster than any oversized ferret ought to be moving.

There are two encodes for this movie: The first is a standard encode, whereas the second encode shows two screens: the screen on the left is the unmodified gameplay, and the screen on the right is from a hack which keeps Sonic in the center of the screen more often. (Note that this hack has no effect on the actual gameplay, only on the watcher's viewing experience.)

Sonic Advance meant Sonic the Hedgehog's first appearance on a Nintendo console, and he took all his friends with him. This run proves that Knuckles the Echidna is up to the task of zipping through levels at warp speed and defeating Dr. Eggman yet again. Don't blink! In this movie, the author doesn't take advantage of the game-destroying spindash glitch featured in this run as Sonic.

This is an improvement of 1:01.70 over the previous movie by the same author thanks to new shortcuts and better optimization. You can read the author's comments for more details.

Gargoyle's Quest is another platform game made by Capcom, where you play as Firebrand, a gargoyle predestined to become the Red Blaze and take down King Breager.

This run is an improvement of 2:17.88 minutes over the previous movie. The improvement comes from more optimization, different routes, and better lag management.

This is a "low-glitch" run of Pulseman for the Genesis. The motion bug is not used in this movie, which adds many minutes to the run but makes it easier to follow and allows the author to show off the rich variety of levels and optimization strategies.

Aside from not using the bug, this movie aims to beat the game as fast as possible.

Fast bouncing around. This is a run of Sonic the Hedgehog which avoids zipping (gaining a large speed boost from being inside terrain), unlike the other run of the game. Therefore, most levels cannot be skipped, and instead have to be traversed using a more normal route, although the author still finds a couple of alternative methods to take shortcuts (it is hard to define hard rules to ban all glitches). In this run, the game is completed without collecting the Chaos Emeralds.

Backwards Long Jump (BLJ) is a game breaking glitch not used in this Super Mario 64 run so that the runners can show off a variety of other lesser known glitches. Despite BLJ being banned, Mario shows that he can still collect 70 stars with ninja-like reflexes.

BLJ can be seen in the 0 Stars and 120 Stars runs.

In this TAS of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the author aims to beat the game as quickly as possible while completing all dungeons, temples, and Ganon Trials. This goal is commonly referred to as "all temples", "all dungeons", or "MST (Medallions/Stones/Trials)".

This run has roughly 35 minutes of improvements in gameplay over the previous TAS of its kind.

This movie contains several new glitches and sequence breaks which allow for a much faster completion than were possible when the last run was made. Several large glitches in the game are not used in the run, such as those which allow the player to manipulate memory addresses to obtain items without physically picking them up. These are avoided because it would make the completion of any dungeon completely arbitrary; they can be seen in an old any% run.

Unlike the previous movie of this category, this TAS is played on the Japanese version of the game. The reason for this is that the text is significantly faster than in the English version, which means that far less time (roughly 12 minutes) is spent waiting for text boxes and cut scenes to end before getting back to the action. English subtitles were added to the encode for people interested in what was said.

The author's notes explain in great detail many of the things done in this TAS which may be confusing to those who aren't familiar with Ocarina of Time speedrunning. Reading them is strongly advised.

Note: There are encodes of higher resolutions in the discussion thread.

Created by a Japanese comedian who hated video games, this game was meant to be near impossible to complete. Rumor has it that at one point the player must leave the controller untouched for 1 hour and fight a "final boss" with over 1 million hit-points. Although this rumor isn't true, the game makes no sense, which is why it is so hard to beat.

In this run, was0x completes the game without using the "scrolling glitch", the only major timesaver in the game. We also have a run demonstrating that glitch.

Pokémon: Blue Version is part of the first generation of games within its famous series, known for having a very large number of beneficial glitches. In fact, the game can be completed in less than one minute of in-game time by save data corruption as evidenced in the run of the Yellow Version, and it can be completed in under an hour using a similar, yet more 'conventional' glitch, as shown by the run of the Red Version. These runs break the game, and avoid much of the gameplay intended by the developers.

And now, for something completely different. In this run, the authors, p4wn3r and Mukki, catch all 151 Pokémon and complete the game while only using what they call "light glitches", showing off much more of the game than in the other runs while still using many glitches to complete this goal much faster than the programmers could have imagined. For more details about the techniques used in this run, and for their definition of what constitutes a light glitch, as always, please read the authors' notes.

From the opposite side of the usual formula of breaking a game to reach the credits as fast as possible, Saturn finishes Chrono Trigger in a single pass while trying to get as much done as possible without glitching the game out. Consequently this video actually looks like an otherwise normal playthrough by an extremely skilled player.

This run aims for maximal completion within reasonable constraints. This includes:

  • All forms of Spekkio (except the highest level) are defeated
  • All Tabs (stat upgrade items) are collected
  • All characters' Techs are learned
  • All the major sidequests are completed
  • At least 1 of every item is collected

It isn't technically possible to do everything possible in Chrono Trigger in a single playthrough, but this run aims to get most of it done. Some items are mutually exclusive with each other and as such necessary omissions happen.

Some very heavy experience grinding occurs between 2:16:45 and 2:26:18. Viewers may wish to skip through this segment of the video.

This is the 10th movie publication of Super Mario World. Of its nine previous movies, none had obsoleted its predecessor by more than 15 seconds. This movie sets a new record by beating the previous movie by 22.68 seconds and clocking in under 10 minutes. Ironically, Mario dies in the process.

The authors of this movie have found (more) new glitches to save time. The notable differences in gameplay are:

  • Plays a level which was not previously played (Yoshi's Island 1)
  • Skips Iggy's Castle
  • Optimized Bowser fight
It is recommended to read the author's comments to understand how the new glitches are used in this movie.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is a vibrant, colorful and fun game that stars the popular Yoshi. From a technical standpoint, the game is very exceptional on the SNES due to its use of the SuperFX² coprocessor. The chip allows for many cool special effects that are otherwise impossible on the SNES.

This is a 100% completion of the game. It plays through all the levels and collects every item that contributes to end-of-level score: 5 flowers, 20 red coins, and 30 stars. By getting 100% completion in each stage, six extra stages are also unlocked. These are played at the end of the run, again with 100% scores.

The authors of the run have spent over three years working on this run, showing off plenty of egg juggling, precise shots, and other incredible antics. This run does not use certain glitches present in the other runs of the game (an any% run and a warp glitch run), but there should still be plenty to surprise you. Reading the authors' lengthy comments is recommended.

Although newcomers to TASVideos's player list, Taco and Kriole are both experienced TASers in regards to Super Metroid, this time having teamed up in a mission to perfect one of the most contested games in the site's history.

Using a new route and taking advantage of several techniques, never demonstrated before in other Super Metroid runs outside of waiting areas, they made short work of Mother Brain and her space pirates. The in-game completion time is 23 minutes 29 seconds, and 18% of the items have been collected. Thus, both the realtime and the in-game any% movies were obsoleted. (The in-game time category has since been improved to beat this run in in-game time, although not real time.)

Note: The actual rerecord count in this run is unknown. Please read the authors' submission notes and the discussion thread for more information.

In this unforgiving RPG that is The 7th Saga, the player picks a character and goes on an epic quest to find the seven magical runes, since each of these runes contains a great power for the one who wields it.

Kirkq and Nitrodon, the players who made this tool-assisted speedrun, chose Lux the Tetujin to complete this quest as fast as possible, forgoing a stat boosting glitch, and performing luck manipulation to defeat bosses at an impossibly low level!

Please read the welcome page if you haven't already done so. It explains the rules and methods that apply to all of these movies, particularly the use of savestates and frame advance. Also refer to our Glossary to understand terms we use, such as TAS or other unfamiliar terms.
