Everyone who has at least once attempted to gather a soul from each of the 120 different enemies in Aria of Sorrow, especially during a speedrun, knows the frustration it incurs after a hundredth failed attempt to get the required drop. That just makes this all-souls TAS, in which the player beats the game on hard mode and without using glitch warps in a little less than 25 minutes, even more impressive.

Upon completing his warpless run, Kriole decided to take another jab at this category, improving upon his earlier effort by 51 seconds.

However, if you would like to see the game beaten to a pulp in a mere quarter of this time, don't miss the glitched run by klmz.

Note: While the player doesn't use glitch warps (neither by death nor by getting out-of-bounds using transform souls), he uses the normal warp rooms present in the castle.

Note: Starting from reset was necessary to use hard mode. However, doing so is normally not allowed — refer to the rules to see the reasons.

Those who greatly dislike that Aria of Sorrow's main character isn't related to the Belmont clan whatsoever can safely relax, because the powerhouse known as Julius Belmont enters the stage in the relatively short run of this Castlevania installment.

Julius is only available to those who have completed the main quest, but unlike Soma Cruz, Belmont can't go through walls or use other fancy tricks like that. Being very upset about it, he hops around the castle madly, producing almost inhuman sounds with every jump.

This is an improvement of almost 13 seconds, mostly due to better boss fights.

Castlevania, again, only this time played with Maxim and without glitching through walls and completing the game intended, unlike the glitch-warped run. What constitutes as intended in this run is debatable, since Maxim zooms through the castle faster than Sonic on espresso, and sends shurikens ripping through bosses before they realize they can attack you.

This is a really, really fast TAS through Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance played with Maxim, who is only available after the game is beaten once. Most of the game is glitched through by being stuck in different walls, so it's hard to explain what happened in this run; see it for yourself.

This is a 1 frame improvement over the previous run by gstick.

If you like this run but have a craving for more Maxim action, be sure to check out the Maxim warpless run.

Mortal Kombat - Tournament Edition is a stand-alone game which acts as a sort of expansion to the GBA version of Mortal Kombat - Deadly Alliance. It has different characters, better A.I. and some bug fixes compared to the original GBA game.

AKheon plays the Tag Team mode, where he chooses a team of two fighters to fight against other teams. The character can be swapped at any time during a match.

If you're looking for a run that abuses a lot of crazy glitches in a handheld fighting game, then don't look further, you have it right here!

The author also did a tool-assisted playaround on Mortal Kombat II (Game Boy version) and on Mortal Kombat Advance.

Mega Man Xtreme is a port of the popular Mega Man X series to the Gameboy Color. It adapts the Mavericks and their stages from that series and wraps it into gameplay more suited for the portable console.
Note: This movie is played from a savestate to unlock "extreme" mode, which allows you to play all levels in one game. The author exploits glitches and the fast gameplay to create a movie worthy of what we have come to expect from Mega Man at TASVideos.

Tatanga is back after being beaten in the regular-mode run of this game, and he kidnapped Princess Daisy again. Daisy is not a pilot, so she is unable to escape from her prison in the sky, despite there being a freely accessible aircraft in the vicinity.

Mario must travel through the four Kingdoms of Birabuto, Muda, Easton, and Chai once again to rescue Daisy. Although this time around, they're packed with much more enemies than before.

This run has much more action than the regular mode of Super Mario Land, due to the increased amount of enemies, yet it is only slightly slower. If you liked TASs of Super Mario Land before now, wait until you see this.

Note: This movie begins from a save state from the end of regular mode in order to access hard mode. There is no other way to access it outside of a hack. We normally do not accept movies which begin from a save state.

Note: This movie requires conversion in order to be played in sync on VBA rerecording v23.

"YOU CAN'T HIT ME!"

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, the third game in the series for the DS, takes a different direction from its direct predecessors in that it is more of a stage-based game, similar to the earliest entries in the series, rather than the "Metroidvania"-style first established by Symphony of the Night.

This run plays as Albus, only available as a character after the player has cleared the game as Shanoa. As such, this run starts from SRAM; the movie generating it, a test-run of the game as Shanoa by gocha, is available here.

In addition to the standard downloadable encode, there is a second experimental downloadable encode produced in 10-bit YUV444 h.264. You will need a very recent codec / media player (such as LAV Filters, recent builds of FFDShow-tryouts, or mplayer2) to be able to play this experimental encode back.

Sonic's gone to plaid in the latest TAS by marzojr. It starts from a savestate to take advantage of Hyper Sonic from the beginning of the game. (For more details, see the note below and the run's comments.)

WARNING: The awesomeness of Hyper Sonic may damage your eyes or trigger seizures in susceptible people.

Note: This movie begins from a save state from the end of regular mode in order to access Hyper Sonic from the beginning of the game. There is no other way to access it outside of a hack. We normally do not accept movies which begin from a save state.

To download a savestate for this movie, use this link for Gens version 11a or this link for Gens version 11b.

Note: There are multiple encodes for the run, as described by this table:

Resolution Filename Size
320x224 knsonic3-tas-newgameplus-marzojr.mkv 257.2 MB
1920x1344 knsonic3-tas-newgameplus-marzojr_1344.mkv 2.38 GB

The high def encode was encoded using HQ3x followed by HQ2x on every frame of the video (it's not upscaling that your video player does by default,) but it requires a very fast computer to play at full speed.

Not only was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX, but also the very first PSX TAS to be published. Follow Dracula's son Alucard and see how he glitches through the castle on a quest to end his father's life.

By using a dirty SRAM and finding other tricks, arukAdo improved the previous movie by a massive 5:03.36. You can read the author's comments to learn more about the other improvements.

A 100% run covering the whole castle is also available. If you prefer the main character to have muscular bare arms, and to pray to the rain gods to defeat bosses, you may enjoy the Richter version.

Award - PSX TAS of 2010
Like most games in Castlevania series, Symphony of the Night has different possible endings. To achieve the best ending, one must explore at least 1847 rooms which is normally a huge time consuming task. While traveling through all those rooms, the author also acquires all of the relics, making this an "all relics and best ending" run.

During the exploring, the player can unlock different abilities for Alucard which make him able to reach new areas. Some of these abilities are used to gain a tremendous speed and glitch through routes which players could not have even dreamed in 1997.

After completing the story mode of Chocobo Racing nine times, one gains access to the secret character "Invincible". This run, starting from a save state generated by this movie, uses this character in time attack mode to put the other characters to shame.

This run pauses for a few seconds between tracks to show the final track times.

Note that we do not normally accept runs starting from save states. See the Rules for more information.

This run begins from a save state which has the minigame unlocked, which can be generated by replaying the author's run of the full game. This is not normally allowed by the site.

Chrono Trigger is a long RPG that typically takes hours to days to complete. We already have one tool-assisted speedrun of this game.

However, this game also has a NewGame+ mode, where all the equipment and characters' stats are preserved from the previous completions, and player is allowed to fight the last boss, Lavos, almost immediately at the beginning. This movie starts from a save file with optimized equipment and character stats, created specifically for NewGame+. (We do not generally accept movies starting from predefined saves. Read the rules to see our reasons.)

This new version of a NewGame+ TAS by inichi is 2 minutes and 24 seconds faster than his previous attempt due to the discovery of a certain data-manipulating glitch that allows him to deal maximum amount of damage every critical hit. It is only possible to do on the Japanese version of the game, which is the reason for a version change. See the author's comments for a detailed explanation.

The killing blow is delivered in just under five minutes of gameplay, but additional time has to be spent to go through the Dream Team scene in order to make the game actually end.

Super Mario Kart is the first in a popular series of games starring the Mario cast racing go-karts. This run aims to get record times in all tracks at 150cc difficulty. This is achieved mostly by jumping straight into walls, bottomless pits, and lava, among many other things. Mushrooms are also used frequently due to their mysteriously friction-free propulsion powers. A high amount of wall-bouncing is required.

This run is over a minute and a half faster than the previous published run, due to new exploits of the definition of a lap.

Please read the welcome page if you haven't already done so. It explains the rules and methods that apply to all of these movies, particularly the use of savestates and frame advance. Also refer to our Glossary to understand terms we use, such as TAS or other unfamiliar terms.
