| Castlevania, again, only this time played with Maxim and without glitching through walls and completing the game intended. What constitutes as intended in this run is debatable, since Maxim zooms through the castle faster than Sonic on espresso, and sends shurikens ripping through bosses before they realize they can attack you. | ||

| Those who greatly dislike that Aria of Sorrow's main character isn't related to the Belmont clan whatsoever can safely relax, because the powerhouse known as Julius Belmont enters the stage in the relatively short run of this Castlevania installment.
Julius is only available to those who have completed the main quest, but unlike Soma Cruz, Belmont can't go through walls or use other fancy tricks like that. Being very upset about it, he hops around the castle madly, producing almost inhuman sounds with every jump.
The improvement of 61 seconds came from these new movement techniques and better boss fights.

| The glitched Aria of Sorrow main quest TAS has become even more glitched. Using an obscure out-of-room travel technique involving in-game saving and subsequent dying, klmz ploughs through the game with confident pace of a cold-blooded killing machine in a little under seven minutes — whole 5 minutes and 20 seconds faster than the previous movie by zggzdydp. We recommend reading the author's comments for more information on the death warp glitch and other timesaving techniques used to make this improvement happen. If you would like to see more of the game, we also have a glitchless Aria of Sorrow movie here. | ||

| Nathan Graves is a vampire hunter trying to save his master, Morris, from the clutches of Dracula. Normally this would require collecting lots of different items as well as hours of leveling, but Cardboard proves collectible cards passé by gathering almost none of the cards required for spells and blazing through the game at warp speed without regard to levels or his own safety. | This is a really, really fast TAS through Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance played with Maxim who is only available after the game is beaten once. Most of the game is glitched through by being stuck in different walls, so it's hard to explain what happened in this; see it for yourself. The first quest completion time of this fast paced game got nearly cut in half thanks to Juste's ability to sink into walls when going at very high speed. Please, don't try this at home!
This is a 56 second improvement over the author's previous movie.
However, if you still think there is not enough zipping through walls, make sure to see the second quest completed in less than half a minute!
Selected quotes from JXQ:
Come follow on the adventure through a castle that contains no less than eighty clashing colors in each room! Be amazed as Juste Belmont, Simon's grandson, has to do the usual vampire hunting despite looking nothing like his grandfather (or a man at all). Question his motives when he takes time out of his rescue mission to decorate the basement he will soon destroy! Feel the pain as Juste struggles to understand that there actually are two castles!! This movie improves on the previous attempt by the same author by 12 in-game seconds and 34 seconds of real time. | Joe Osugi, bizarre 'anti-terrorist ninja', is called in to assist the local police, who seem to be completely useless in rescuing some hostages. The game is basically a series of rooms connected together. Your job is to rescue the hostages and then escape the stage through the red door. You have in your arsenal a three-level shuriken, a sword, and a grappling hook similar to the one from Bionic Commando. Joe also has two special abilities: to make himself invincible and to attack all enemies on screen. This new version by nitsuja is 4 minutes and 13 seconds (!) faster than the previous one, effectively turning it into an orgy of ropeswinging acrobatics and ninja madness.

| This Sonic Advance movie is unique as a speedrun in one aspect: the hero (Sonic) moves so fast that the "camera" of the game cannot even follow him. Therefore, Sonic is rarely seen in the movie. On the rare occasions we get to watch Sonic, we get to enjoy seeing him moving through walls, charging up for another dash, or making short work of bosses. Besides the super fast speed itself, the speed also provides Sonic an ability (glitch) to pass through platforms and walls under certain conditions. Note: this run has two AVIs available for download. The first one is normal, ~48 MB in size and shows the movie including the credits and all. The second one is ~77 MB in size and it shows two screens side by side — the one on the left is identical to the normal version; the one on the right is made with a special emulator, hacked to force the game's camera to focus on Sonic, making it much easier to follow what nitsuja is doing with him. Unlike the first video, this version doesn't show the credits and anything following them. | ||

| Disappointed with slow paced movies that may be good but just move too slowly? Look no further, nitsuja in this extremely high-speed run demonstrates how to break the sound barrier and why Sonic is the fastest character in the video game universe. The average character movement speed in this movie is probably the highest of all the movies on this site. This movie doesn't collect any of the Chaos Emeralds, but does demonstrate almost every single move that Sonic is capable of in this game. | ||

| Yet another Sonic run by nitsuja. This time around the game doesn't allow running faster than the camera can follow. However it does allow team play constantly. This run is refreshing compared to other Sonic runs because of how different it is. Yet like the others, it does not collect the Chaos Emeralds. | This GBC game is based off the popular television series Mission: Impossible. Following the spirit of that series, this is a stealth-based game. | Final Fantasy Adventure is the first game of the Seiken Densetsu (聖剣伝説) series but it does contains some classic Final Fantasy elements. The series is probably best known for the SNES game Secret of Mana. This game was later remade on the Gameboy Advance as Sword of Mana. Gameplay is quite similar to a Zelda game, however there is level building. In this run, MattyXB demonstrates how to flawlessly beat the game. What's unusual is that he also uses some glitches to completely skip parts in the game saving over 20 minutes. The "Power" option is selected on every level-up. Those trying to follow the story in this movie will have a hard time, since the main characters were both named "A" and integral points in the story were skipped. | ||

| The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening is a classic Game Boy Zelda adventure. Link must travel across the dream world of Koholint Island, collecting the 8 Instruments to wake the Wind Fish and go home after a terrible shipwreck. Swordless Link (the author), however, decided collecting instruments for a one-man band was a waste of time, so he skipped all of that and went straight to the Wind Fish (with a pesky boss battle in the middle). The author improved the run by 11.22 seconds, which was mostly achieved by using a new route. If you liked this, be sure to also check out the Game Boy Color version (DX), which completes all the dungeons. | ||

| This is Metroid II: Return of Samus completed with all the items collected. Being truthful to the original Metroid values, the game holds many items cleverly hidden, so finding all of them is not an easy task. That being said, Metroid II doesn't keep track of the collected items' percentage. Moreover, the game has two excessive Energy tanks and an additional copy of each beam. It's been agreed that the author should take all the E-tanks, and at least one copy of each beam. However, due to the apparent linearity of this game, collecting so many additional items doesn't make the movie dramatically slower. This movie is nearly 6 minutes faster than Alter's previous movie due to better precision, faster Metroid fights, and missile planning. Note: This movie does not use secret worlds, also known as "select glitch". | ||

| Metroid II: Return of Samus is the second game in the Metroid series, taking place immediately after the events of the NES Metroid. Samus arrives at the planet SR388 to exterminate all metroids and eventually succeeds.
This movie by Cardboard puts the Spring Ball and Spider Ball to great use to compensate for the lack of items, and achieves victory in the shortest time possible.
This is a 69 second improvement over the author's previous movie. The in-game time is 43 minutes.
Note: This movie does not use secret worlds, also known as "the select glitch".

| In the direct sequel to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link is back to being a lone boy without a fairy. One day, he is attacked by Skull Kid and his two fairies, Tatl and Tael, and they steal his ocarina. After pursuing Skull Kid, he is transformed into a Deku Scrub. Link continues pursuing Skull Kid all the way to the Clock Town (now with the help of Tatl the fairy, a more 'in yo face' version of Navi). According to the author, this TAS of the game is a result of 10 months hard work and many years of research into this game. The game is completed in three cycles: after each cycle, the time is reset to three days before a catastrophe that Link is trying to avert. NOTE: There are some graphical problems in this movie. In particular, a cutscene at 18:20 appears completely white although it should just be dreamshaded. It is a problem with the video plugin used to render this movie. | ||

| In the revolutionary 3D debut for the Legend of Zelda series, Link must travel around the colourful land of Hyrule and awaken six Sages in order to save it from the evil Ganondorf. This movie uses a variety of sequence breaks and shortcuts to complete the game using a minimal number of inventory and quest items. Even the most experienced OoT players are sure to find surprise in what is skippable in this game. Also, JXQ has provided some interesting commentary on the movie. It might make the movie more entertaining. NOTE: There is a short delay in the game every time the pause menu is entered. The delay is a known bug in the emulation and can't be avoided. | ||

| Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is a critically acclaimed first-person action game released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997. It stars a hero of controversial descent, being a pre-Colombian Native American time-travelling warrior, referred to as Turok. As such, he must stop an evil entity known as The Campaigner from conquering the universe with a time-controlling artifact called the Chronoscepter (amazing, really). This also was the reason for stuffing the game full with anachronisms, so you'll see high-tech weapons and teleporters together with magic crossbows and dinosaurs. Turok has been famous for being the first fog navigation simulator of its time. The omnipresent fog was included to obscure the low rendering distance that was used in order to increase performance on N64's hardware, but it also resulted in a somewhat claustrophobic feeling throughout the game. To further confuse the disoriented player, the majority of wall textures are nondescript and repetitive, making it easy to get lost at times. Disclaimer: Due to various complaints of motion sickness caused by the strafe-running technique utilized, the viewer is encouraged to keep an airsickness bag handy in case of sudden nausea. | ||

| Batman: Return of the Joker (1991) is the sequel to the first Batman game for the NES. Being one of the later NES titles, it shows surprisingly good and fluid visuals, fullsize art, and decent sound — all without slowdown issues! The gameplay has undergone some changes compared to its predecessor. A welcome addition to it is a slide movement, similar to the one in the Mega Man series. A not-so-welcome addition is that half the stages are autoscrolling, and there are no close combat weapons now. | ||

| On this site, we make perfect movies, and then we surpass them. Of course, if we can surpass them, they were not perfect in the first place, but who would have known? When "perfection" is defined as "as fast as possible", it requires some sacrifices. Indeed, this movie sacrifices a lot in the playability of the game. Full of tricks to pass through walls, tricks to avoid mandatory battles, tricks to pass through enemies relatively unharmed, tricks to acquire weapon refills in little time — there is very little in this movie left that resembles normal playing. Even death is used as a viable playing strategy that saves time. All of the tricks are still performed by the means of mere controller input, even though portions of the input were calculated by a computer program (approximately 26 seconds in total). This movie is a significant improvement of 9 seconds to the previous movie; consisting of many micro-optimizations and a few major ones, including a new trick or two in the Cutman stage. | NINJA外伝2 — The Dark Sword of Chaos, now completed about 4 seconds faster than the previous version by the same author, due to lots of small optimizations throughout every level.
The shadow clones are a unique gameplay element not seen elsewhere in the series, but in this movie they are used mainly to make extremely short work of bosses and entertain the viewer immediately afterwards.
The game has a rich plot with lots of cutscenes. Because of this, the author has also supplied the "story" version of the movie, which exhibits the same gameplay but includes all the cutscenes skipped by pressing start (which sum up to about 3/4 of the entire movie). It can be obtained here.
A good sense of humor is strongly advised to note the irony present in some of the later dialogues between characters.

| In this game, two jovial brightly-colored soliders infiltrate enemy forces. Everyone here runs around menacingly, and bullets are a bit slower than a housecat. This movie is about a 4 second improvement to the previous version. Note: The name of this game is Rush’n Attack. The 'n does not stand alone as a contraction of and, unlike Ghosts ’n Goblins. Given the theme of the game, the pun on “Russian Attack” is quite obvious. | ||

| In the year 2029, evil Emperor Garuda somehow establishes a dictatorial government in the United States. After many lives are lost, two ninjas attempt to overthrow him. Shadow of the Ninja is one of the rare games in which constantly jumping and slashing is faster than regular running. The author makes sure to use this move extensively both to travel and to deal damage to enemies, and so it may seem that the ninja has a severe case of ADHD. This game was released in Europe as Blue Shadow and in Japan as Kage. Note: the previous movie was erroneously played on the European PAL version in NTSC mode, making the game run too fast. Its actual completion time was 11:15, making this movie one 1 minute and 26 seconds faster. | ||

| Shatterhand is a bit like Batman. Just longer, and a lot laggier. This movie by JXQ is about 108 seconds faster than the previous version by Juan Pablo López. Most of the improvement comes from finding clever ways to reduce the immense lag that this game experiences at some points. | ||

| In a not-so-canonical sequel to Metal Gear, Solid Snake returns with a newfound ability to stop his own bullets, take minor damage to avoid major damage and an interesting ability to use cans of tuna to replenish his breath while underwater. For those interested, the author provides a lua script that allows you to view the HP of enemies, bomb timers and hostages rescued when using FCEUX. | ||

| "Splatter House: Wanpaku Graffiti" looks like a parody of the other more serious Splatter House games. Armed with a big meat cleaver, you fight various bizarre creatures such as a purple woman's severed head, spiders bursting out of a woman's gut, and Synchronized Dancing Dracula and Zombies (tm). This movie by Diman tries to do something interesting during the waiting times. | ||
