Adventure is a first-party game released in 1979 for the Atari 2600. The goal of the game is to find the enchanted chalice and return it to the gold castle while avoiding the three dragons guarding it. It was the first action-adventure game, and also the first game to have an inventory, a continue system, and a widely-known Easter egg.

The author, TehSeven, ignores the fearsome dragons and breezes through the maze, finishing the quest in a little over half a minute.

E.T. The Extraterrestial, based on the film of the same name, is one of the worst video games ever released. It contributed to Atari's massive financial losses during 1983 and 1984. As a result of overproduction and returns, millions of unsold cartridges were buried in an Alamogordo, New Mexico landfill.

The game was developed in five weeks and Atari decided to skip audience testing for the product due to time limitations.

For our first Atari 2600 movie, partners in crime adelikat and Cardboard assemble the interplanetary telephone and call E.T.'s home planet in a record-breaking 25.25 seconds. For details on how they did it, read the authors' commentary.

From Wikipedia:

The player(s) takes control of the DC Comics character Superman, who must repair the bridge destroyed by Lex Luthor, capture Luthor and his criminal underlings, enter a phonebooth to turn back into Clark Kent, then return to the Daily Planet in the shortest amount of time. To slow Superman's progress, Kryptonite has been released by Luthor. If hit by Kryptonite, Superman loses his abilities to capture criminals and fly. To regain them, he must find and kiss Lois Lane.

However, jlun2 uses a pause demo glitch to warp to the end. That is all.

Castle Adventure is a game made in 1984 about a cloverleaf person trapped in a deserted castle with monsters roaming around. You have to find a way to escape the castle by searching for clues.

You move around with the arrow keys. If you manage to find a weapon, you can attack enemies by simply moving into them. Similarily, you can pick up objects on the ground by moving into them. You can also type in commands such as "LOOK DESK", "TAKE KEY", "READ BOOK", and "DROP FLASK". There are treasures to be found and monsters to be slain in order to increase your score.

In this TAS, Ilari & Truncated clear the game in a blindingly fast 19.45 seconds utilizing subframe optimization and rapid keyboard-twisting input. For details, read the authors' comments.

The run is so fast that the emulator can't draw all of the game's video output, so the downloadable encodes are made with a hacked version of the emulator that draws all of them.

Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers is the fourth installment of the Space Quest adventure series, and the first Space Quest game with point-and-click gameplay, as compared to its text-based predecessors. In this game, Roger Wilco is thrown into the future at Space Quest XII, and must stop Vohaul, whose consciousness lives inside another person. To do so, he must time-travel within the future (Space Quest X and XII) and to the past (Space Quest I) to gain information needed to achieve this goal.

The author, c-square, completes this game using major sequence breaks that are almost impossible to perform unassisted without abusing saves. To help with this TAS, the source code of JPC-rr was modified to support mouse input fully. See the submission text for details.

Eggerland is a predecessor of the NES Adventures of Lolo games, and in certain ways, it has much more features than Adventures of Lolo 1.

This movie abuses a couple of the game bugs in a surprising way.

Note that this is a Famicom Disk System game. Read What is FDS for more information.

Also note that this movie is about 42 seconds longer than the previous movie. This is due to the inaccurate (shorter) FDS load times emulated by famtasia.

After a major surgery, Samus's Power Suit has been reduced in appearance. To compensate, she decides to arm herself to the teeth with 250 missiles and more power bombs than she really needs. It's her favorite thing to do when sequence breaking isn't as feasible.

BioSpark collects all 100 capacity increasing items for Samus's health, missiles and power bombs. The abilities recovered from the Core-X are not part of this number.

Like in previous Metroid Fusion TASes, lowest in-game time is top priority, sacrificing some minor tricks that save real-time but would have made in-game time slightly higher. In-game completion time is 55:28, 48 in-game seconds faster than the previous run. The real-time improvement is 30.23 seconds. It appears smaller due to 1 in-game second actually being 1.06 real-time seconds in this game.

If you are interested, an alternate encode is available, that eliminates all of the door screen transitions and conversations, cutting viewing time quite a bit.

Monster House is a 2006 animated film about a haunted house and three children trying to best it. The movie was reasonably successful; so like most successful movies, it got a spinoff game.

While it is not the most interesting game ever during normal play, Monster House becomes much more interesting when it's thoroughly broken. Here, the author uses an out of bounds glitch to break the game, allowing for quite a bit of time saving.

You probably know Nancy Drew. She's a popular fictional character who has a knack for solving (and attracting) all sorts of mysteries. Basically a Mary Sue, being rich, handsome, immensely talented and leading an exciting life.

As the game begins, she comes to a hotel owned by her friend's friend where accidents have been happening, and rumors even say that it's a ghost behind all the mayhem, perhaps exacting some sort of revenge from beyond the grave. But eventually we find out the problem is a much simpler and common one instead, human greed, and that there's really nothing supernatural going on in the hotel, with the exception of Nancy Drew herself, who knows solutions to puzzles without ever finding them and who causes other strange stuff to happen as well.

It would be pointless to describe The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past here, because this run has little to do with the game itself. Using glitches exclusive to the GBA version, Link rips a hole in the space-time-continuum, enters the Palace of the Four Swords, and finishes the game in just over 5 minutes.

This run improves the previous publication by 21.16 seconds, primarily through a new trick that ends input early, using buggy boomerangs to finish off the Dark Links.

The Minish Cap is an addition to The Legend of Zelda series, that sees our hero fight Ganondorf Vaati, retrieve and power up the Master Sword Picori Sword, to once again save the land of Hyrule and rescue the Princess Zelda.

Following the constant advice of a talking hat, and utilising unique items, as well as getting more use out of an ocarina than simply getting around, Tompa completes this task in record time, putting Vaati back in his place in a mere 108 minutes!

Set before the events of the first two NES games, the player gets to play as Christopher Belmont, one of Simon's ancestors.

Unlike most Castlevania games, there are no sub-weapons, and the player loses whip upgrades upon damage. Additionally, the Castlevania Game Boy games, unlike their NES counterparts, have ropes and moving spike walls instead of stairs.

This game, being one of the first to come out for the Game Boy, was programmed poorly, exhibiting lots of lag, and also suffers from poor jump controls. Seizing upon that, the level designers took it upon themselves to create fake difficulty by requiring pixel perfect jumps throughout.

In this movie, arukAdo eliminates lag by killing enemies as they appear on screen, destroying candles, collecting coins, and ducking when possible. In addition to that, luck is manipulated via pausing to prevent certain enemies from appearing or to force bosses to enter attack range sooner.

Note: The Konami Collection version was used instead of the original, as it lags a bit less, and is also fully colored.

Award - GBx TAS of 2010
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX is an updated version of an older GB game to add colour graphics, an additional dungeon, various other minor features, and a lot of bug fixes. Link, after rescuing Hyrule (again?), sets off on a journey and subsequently shipwrecks on the mysterious Koholint Island, which has been overtaken by evil monsters which he must defeat in order to find a way back home.

Through a wide variety of glitches and general optimisations, this is now almost ten minutes faster than the previous full run of this game.

This run does not make use of a form of warp glitching, but still demonstrates that they obviously didn't fix as many bugs as they thought.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is a Game Boy Color game that carries over much of the graphics from Link's Awakening. Surprisingly, much of the game engine is completely different and developed by Capcom. In it, the Oracle of Seasons, Din, is kidnapped by Onox, General of Darkness. Link must travel throughout both Holdrum and Subrosia to collect the 8 Essences of Nature, power up the Rod of Seasons, and defeat Onox.

This game has been attempted by various authors over the past 5 years. Finally, SwordlessLink, along with Tompa, who joined the project after dungeon 4, beat this legendary game in 1:25:57.21 primarily through the use of pitwalking, Pegasus Seeds, and enemy manipulation. Please see the authors' notes for more details.

Rolan's Curse is like a simplified version of the NES Legend of Zelda with slower gameplay and more restricted game world, resulting in a primitive hack-and-slash experience. Nevertheless, there exists an interesting storyline: The kingdom of Rolan has been invaded by the forces of some evil being called Barius. However, in this movie the final boss is never actually seen. Instead of meeting Barius face to face, the hero dies while defeating the first level boss. The game then decides to freak out and end right there, declaring the rest of the story unnecessary.

This is 0.25 seconds faster than the previous movie, arising from a substantial amount of testing and optimisation.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a classic Game Boy Zelda adventure. Link must travel across the dream world of Koholint Island, collecting the 8 Instruments to wake the Wind Fish and go home after a terrible shipwreck.

bobmario511 (the author), however, decided collecting instruments for a one-man band was a waste of time, so he skipped all of that and went straight to the Wind Fish (with a pesky boss battle in the middle).

This is a 0.56 second improvement over the previous run. See the author's notes for more details.

If you liked this, be sure to also check out the Game Boy Color version (DX), which completes all the dungeons.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a classic Game Boy Zelda adventure. Link must travel across the dream world of Koholint Island, collecting the 8 Instruments to wake the Wind Fish and go home after a terrible shipwreck.

bobmario511 (the author), however, realized that "Hey, I'm in a dream. That means I can do anything I want!" With that in mind, he embarks on a journey as the legendary hero THIEF to live out his wildest fantasies. Unfortunately, he would soon find out that this dream would end up being the worst nightmare of his life, traveling through a chaotic world devoid of any logic, meaning, or consistent appearance. Summoning the power of all of the allies he can get, our hero, BowWow, Marin, a ghost, and a flying rooster travel together to make sense of the nonsensical hell of Link's own imagination, collecting what he believes to be the 8 Instruments and Secret Seashells on their way.

Crusader of Centy (1994), also known as Soleil, tells the story of a teenage boy saving humanity from monsters that might or might not actually be evil. To his aid he has up to two pets at a time granting him some special ability.

The movie takes advantage of the way the game calculates movement speed to make some seemingly impossible long jumps and skip large parts of some rooms.

Flashback is the sci-fi version of Prince of Persia. There is a lot of jumping, rolling and climbing to move around the levels.

This movie uses a lot of bugs to get ahead faster. The most prominent one is probably walking through walls, which renders keys obsolete. Also, if you finish a level without having some important item, the game assumes you have it anyway.

We recommend the author's comments of this run.

More seriously, Golden Axe III is one of the sequels to the original Golden Axe. One notable change is that players can now pick several different routes through the game by making choices at certain intersections. Also, the two players can use a "team-up" attack for high damage, which is used very frequently in this movie.

Madou Monogatari (魔導物語) is an RPG best described as 'strange'. The game has overly cute design and the battles are probably a little different than you would expect. The story revolves around a girl who is on a quest to pass her final exam in a magic school.

A defining moment is one of the cutscenes, where a slime is encountered and suddenly defeated by a strange girl bursting through a brick wall. Then, an equally strange armored knight drops in from the ceiling and the two of them proceed to ignore you and chase each other away.

The fast completion time is achieved mostly by using a random-effect spell, which has a small chance of producing a devastating elephant stomp. Naturally, in a TAS, the "small chance" gets a new meaning.

The Faery Tale Adventure is an action RPG released for Amiga in 1986 and ported to the Genesis in 1991. The plot revolves around three brothers who go on a quest to defeat an evil Necromancer and retrieve a Talisman from him.

The game world is gigantic and normally requires hours of adventuring around to collect five Golden Statues to access a hidden city to find a magical flower, which allows the brothers to walk across the lava protecting the Necromancer and defeat him.

However, Aqfaq just skips all of this, using health potions and incredibly precise luck manipulation to walk straight across the lava and recover the Talisman in a little over 20 minutes.

Mystical Ninja, otherwise known as Ganbare Goemon, is one of Konami's longest-running series, yet remains mostly localised to Japan (thanks in part to cultural differences; the series is very Japanese). This is the first of three games for the series released for the N64.

In the direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link is back to being a lone boy without a fairy. One day, he is attacked by Skull Kid and his two fairies, Tatl and Tael, and they steal his ocarina. After pursuing Skull Kid, he is transformed into a Deku Scrub. Link continues pursuing Skull Kid all the way to the Clock Town (now with the help of Tatl the fairy, a more 'in yo face' version of Navi).

This TAS of the game is the result of three years of hard work and many restarts due to new discoveries. It features many never-before-seen tricks and glitches, and completes every dungeon without getting a single boss key. Everything is done out of order, in ways that will amaze the viewer and keep them on the edge of their seat the entire way through, including a whole new way of warping between the areas in the game's over-world, and a new method of traveling that makes even the longest stretches in the game seem tiny.

The author beats the game in two 3-day cycles (the previous route used three), and does so in a way that puts every past attempt at a 6-day challenge to shame.

Note: There are encodes of higher resolutions in the discussion thread. Also, if you know the cutscenes of this game by memory at this point and would rather watch an encode without them, it's your lucky day.

Although the length of this movie is 21:50.6 when timed with our standard method, applying the timing method used by most Zelda speedrunners (until last hit on Ganon) would result in a final time of 18:46.85. It's important to note this so that there's no confusion about which runs are faster than the others.

In this TAS of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the author aims to beat the game as quickly as possible. He achieves this by exploiting a large sequence break which involves "tricking" the game into warping Link directly from the Deku Tree (the first dungeon) to Ganon's Castle. Child Link then goes on conquering the whole Castle without a single thought about becoming an Adult beforehand.

Despite how quickly this game can be beaten these days, this run is almost one minute faster than its predecessor thanks to a new trick at the Tower Collapse Sequence and many small improvements throughout the run.

This TAS was done using the Japanese version of the game. The reason for this is that the text is significantly faster than in the English version, which means that far less time is spent waiting for text boxes and cut scenes to end before getting back to the action.

The author's notes explain in great detail many of the things done in this TAS, which may be confusing to those who aren't familiar with Ocarina of Time speedrunning. Reading them is strongly advised.

In this TAS of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the author aims to beat the game as quickly as possible while completing all dungeons, temples, and Ganon Trials. This goal is commonly referred to as "all temples", "all dungeons", or "MST (Medallions/Stones/Trials)".

This run has roughly 35 minutes of improvements in gameplay over the previous TAS of its kind.

This movie contains several new glitches and sequence breaks which allow for a much faster completion than were possible when the last run was made. Several large glitches in the game are not used in the run, such as those which allow the player to manipulate memory addresses to obtain items without physically picking them up. These are avoided because it would make the completion of any dungeon completely arbitrary; they can be seen in an old any% run.

Unlike the previous movie of this category, this TAS is played on the Japanese version of the game. The reason for this is that the text is significantly faster than in the English version, which means that far less time (roughly 12 minutes) is spent waiting for text boxes and cut scenes to end before getting back to the action. English subtitles were added to the encode for people interested in what was said.

The author's notes explain in great detail many of the things done in this TAS which may be confusing to those who aren't familiar with Ocarina of Time speedrunning. Reading them is strongly advised.

GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor is an NES game released by Capcom USA around 1991. It is known to be a sequel to the original GI Joe NES game released a year before.

In this run, the author manipulates luck in order to achieve his goals. Note that he jumps a lot, but that's because jumping makes the character move faster (from left to right and vice-versa) than just walking around.

Gauntlet is a Dungeons & Dragons simulator of sorts. You choose a class of Warrior, Valkyrie, Wizard or Elf to navigate the Gauntlet, collect treasure, slay wicked monsters, and save your beloved peasant hometown.

Walkthroughs for this game estimate a completion time of several hours when playing normally. Here, we see the game completed in only 12 minutes! Usually clues have to be collected to discover the password to the last dungeon, but this is selected at the game's beginning, so the clues are unnecessary in a TAS. There is also some collision detection abuse and lots of luck manipulation.

This updated version takes a better path, manipulates fights more, and abuses luck to get the password with shortest input time.

There is a huge amount of secrets and hidden paths to take in this game. The author recommends the FAQ by melvinwang on GameFAQs, and would like to thank fuwafuwa and TurboC for their help with this video.

In this TAS of Jaws, the attack level is upgraded to 3, which is the minimum required to kill Jaws in a single encounter. 30,000 points are needed to get the mini-sub which has double attack power. Unfortunately for him, the number of beings in the world that desire to kill him are vast, and only the most silly usage of items can save him from impending doom. Welcome to Metro City, the intro of this game promptly starts with the murder of Metro City's hero Vortex. The need has arose for a new hero; Nightshade - a guy in a trench coat!

In this game, guide Nightshade through Metro City to build popularity, fight rats, gentleman, and female ninjas, and most importantly museum statues.

This run by Maximus speeds through the game as fast as Nightshade is able to, ignoring lesser goals such as the museum items, saving a kitty, or checking out the women's dressing room. It is 25 seconds faster than the previous version by the same author.

Unfortunately the only escape from a deathtrap seen in this run is the deathtrap Nightshade finds himself in at the beginning; however one of the highlights of this game which can also be enjoyed in this run is the hilarious dialog, such as being threatened by the legalization of wooden nickels.

Spiritual Warfare (1992) is an unlicensed NES game created by Wisdom Tree. The company specializes in the niche market of Christian-themed video games. The gameplay in Spiritual Warfare is very similar to The Legend of Zelda (1986). The game's story is taken directly from the Bible (Ephesians 6:12-18):

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Therefore, take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day and, having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and your feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace.
16 Above all, take the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God,
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

The Christian concept of spiritual warfare is a metaphor for fully accepting whatever Christ teaches. The ongoing spiritual war against Satan requires the whole armor of God, meaning that a faithful Christian should always obey the Lord's authority in order to defeat evil.

The author of the TAS utterly ignores the philosophy of obtaining the whole armor of God in order to defeat Satan. The power of prayer, rather than the Helmet of Salvation, is enough to protect the hero's physical body from dynamite explosions.

This is a long RPG-like adventure game with lots of witty dialog and the hero equipped with a yoyo.

This is a ~4 minute improvement to the previous movie by Sami O..

A major part of this shortening comes from a glitch that skips the last chapter of the game, ignoring certain plot details. If you want to see the actual ending, watch the previous movie.

The StarTropics series, generally considered cult classics by many gamers, are NES action-RPGs that follow our hero Mike. In this installment of the franchise, he recieves a telepathic message from a princess he rescued in the previous game how to solve a cipher that him and his father found. However, as he reads it aloud, he is transported into the Stone Age.

As he saves some children from a flesh eating boar, he discovers a Tetrad piece and decides to collect them all. However, while in England, he notices Zoda, a villain again from the predecessor, trying to steal one. As Mike defeats Zoda, the villain reveals himself as Zoda-X. So Mike must travel through time to retrieve the rest of the tetrads and defeat Zoda-Y and Zoda-Z.

Sami helps Mike destroy the enemies with tool-assisted precision and finishing the game in a little over an hour. If you're looking for action with Sherlock Holmes and in Transylvania, look no further than this.

Created by a Japanese comedian who hated video games, this game was meant to be near impossible to complete. Rumor has it that at one point the player must leave the controller untouched for 1 hour and fight a "final boss" with over 1 million hit-points. Although this rumor isn't true, the game makes no sense, which is why it is so hard to beat.

In this run, was0x completes the game without using the "scrolling glitch", the only major timesaver in the game. We also have a run demonstrating that glitch.

Although none of it is true, the game makes no sense, which is why it is so hard to beat.

The author, was0x, instead completes the game in a mere 4 minutes by simply walking off the edge of existence and magically ending at the final treasure room.

He also beats his previous run by 1.19 seconds by making the old man appear sooner and by keeping his speed in the corrupted map by avoiding an NPC.

If you want to see more of the game, we also have a no-warps run.

The Battle of Olympus (オリュンポスの戦い) is set in ancient Greece. A mortal man named Orpheus receives help from the gods and nymphs in his quest to save his lover Helene from Hades. People often compare this game with Zelda 2 because of its similar gameplay.

This movie is 9:11 faster than Arc's version, mostly because of the utilization of a gameplay-altering glitch: pressing Left+Right simultaneously in order to make Orpheus move with almost unlimited velocity growth. The trick is documented at GameResources/NES/BattleOfOlympus.

The route used in this movie is decided by a few things the hero (Orpheus) must do:

  • Collect three fragments of love in order to activate the Tartarus entry.
  • Get a key to access the second fragment's location.
  • Get the Eyeball of Graeae to see invisible doors (to access the first fragment's location).
  • Get a sword in Peloponnesus. It is needed to kill the three-headed guardian with respawning heads (Cerberus) in Tartarus.
  • Collect 60 olives in order to buy the ocarina, which will be needed to cross the sea to get to Crete and Tartarus.
  • Get a harp in order to call Pegasus. It makes the route faster.

Of all the challenging ways to play Legend of Zelda that people have attempted on a NES console, one of the most famous is the "swordless" challenge. In this challenge, the player must beat all of the game, up until the final boss Ganon, without using a sword. It is not possible to damage Ganon without a sword however, so many swordless runs reach Ganon's room to die there.

In order to actually complete the game, Baxter does pick up a sword and kills Ganon. However, the sword is only obtained shortly before attempting the final level, and even then, the sword is not used until absolutely necessary. In the meantime, sit back and watch a run which relies heavily on luck manipulation and effective bomb usage to beat the game very quickly. For more details, see the author's comments.

This is a 86-second improvement over the previous movie by jprofit22.

The Legend of Zelda (ゼルダの伝説) is an adventure game that needs no introduction to most NES players.

This is the fifth The Legend of Zelda TAS at this site (not counting the alternate movies), and is ~85 seconds faster than the previous movie, largely due to better optimization and manipulation of item drops.

Ufouria is a game that was strangely never released in the United States, even though it was released in Europe in addition to Japan (where it's known as Hebereke).

The game itself is a Metroid-style adventure: it takes place in a world that can be freely explored and several items need to be found and bosses defeated in order to gain access to some areas that initially seem inaccessible.

There are four different characters in the game each with their own special abilities, although in this movie you will only see three characters ever used, as adebis has managed to completely avoid having to acquire Shades the ghost.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is an action-adventure video game created for the NES by Rare in 1989. The game loosely follows the movie as the player wanders around Hollywood collecting items and figuring out Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

In this run, Tool23 collects items which are spawned randomly in the world. The first item acquired is the whistle, which calls the taxi, which makes movement easier. The early deaths save time by skipping items which would otherwise need to be collected.

This is an improved version ― 76 seconds faster than the previous movie.

In this game you're an armor-clad knight with a big sword. You collect gems to bribe a red knight, kill evil beasts and rescue several "distressed damsels".

This movie takes advantage of a glitch that allows to re-enter the first map and substitute the last few levels with the first levels. There is also a movie that does not use this trick. It's slightly longer.

Ps: Do you want to see more adventures of the iron-clad hero of this game, Kuros?

It tells a story about a boy, Tarosuke, who seeks to meet Buddha, who will decide about Tarosuke's next life.
In order to meet Buddha, Tarosuke has to do lots of good deeds which earn him "piousness".

Because there is a lot of interesting dialog in this movie, but all in Japanese, the provided AVI is made to contain English subtitles for all in-game dialog text, as well as some explanations. It should help understanding the game events as well as enjoying its weird sense of fun.

Keith Courage in Alpha Zones stars a hero who suspiciously looks like Gunstar Red. He is a part of the alliance N.I.C.E. (Nations of International Citizens for Earth), who's current 'mission' is to defeat B.A.D. (Beastly Alien Dudes) and bring peace to the world.

This TAS features speedy completion by using the inept enemies as boosts to speed through the underworld levels. Only 2 of the weapon upgrades are ever collected and all of the story is completely skipped.

There are also 2 cases of using an instant kill level hazard as a shortcut.

This game should probably have a seizure warning of some sort.

Not only was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX, but also the very first PSX TAS to be published. Follow Dracula's son Alucard and see how he glitches through the castle on a quest to end his father's life.

By using a dirty SRAM and finding other tricks, arukAdo improved the previous movie by a massive 5:03.36. You can read the author's comments to learn more about the other improvements.

A 100% run covering the whole castle is also available. If you prefer the main character to have muscular bare arms, and to pray to the rain gods to defeat bosses, you may enjoy the Richter version.

Castlevania Chronicles is a PSX remake of the Japan-only X68000 version of Castlevania, titled simply Akumajō Dracula (悪魔城ドラキュラ), which is a remake of the first Castlevania game. In this game, Simon Belmont is set to defeat the evil count Dracula.

In the run, the author uses Arrange Mode, as it's more suitable for taking damage to save time (Simon loses less HP when getting hit in Arrange Mode than in Original Mode). Furthermore, a trick allows him to use a subweapon with less attack animation (jumping and whipping twice before attacking with the subweapon).

This is our first Sega Saturn published movie, and yet again Symphony of the Night has the honor to open another game section. arukAdo uses Maria, a Sega Saturn exclusive playable character, to blaze through the castle, proving that she's just not another damsel in distress. The author uses a combination of magic powers, kicks, glitches and luck manipulation to free the world, yet again, from Dracula's minions.

Castlevania: Nocturne in the Moonlight is the Japanese name for Symphony of the Night. The Sega Saturn version was released only in Japan.

King's Quest is a popular adventure franchise for the PC by Sierra that focuses on exploration and puzzle solving. This movie features one of the few console ports of any Sierra adventure game. Notably, it features improved graphics and sound as compared to the original, which is usually not the case for these ports.

Usually this game would take many hours of wandering, collecting objects and solving problems. The author however is able to focus on key events and manages to beat the game in less time than Super Mario Bros...

This new movie is about a full minute faster due to newly found exploits.

If you enjoy this movie, you may want to take a look at this rejected movie of King's Quest V for the NES by the same author. It is unfortunately much longer and has poor graphics compared to the original, but is impressive nonetheless for people who have played it before.

It's a TAS of the most beautiful Donkey Kong Country game on SNES. This run uses warp barrels.

It improves the previous run by 28.26 seconds by using new tricks, such as delayed jumps and backward flights. It also abuses hitboxes even further. Please read the author's comments for details about the new tricks.

Goof Troop (1993) is a cheerful puzzle game based on Disney show of the same name. The gameplay is somewhat similar to NES Legend of Zelda with its maze-like map filled with one-screen rooms, except this time the emphasis on puzzles is stronger, and you can play in co-op.

In this movie the authors control two characters (Goofy and Max) simultaneously. This allows for a good deal of team work as one character can go get an item while the other heads for the exit. When there is no multi-tasking to do, the authors do a good job performing antics with one or both of the characters.

This is a nearly 4 minute improvement over Frenom's previous movie. Improvements come from new tricks, better teamwork, luck manipulation and optimized movements.

Selected comments from the author:
Prince of Persia 2 is one of the most challenging games ever made. Maybe this is because of the terribly imprecise control, the nonsensical puzzles, and the character's amazing inability to survive falling any distance. There are no pits with spikes this time around, apparently there were enough complaints about the ones in the original Prince of Persia, but unfortunately, non-spiky pits are just as deadly as spiky ones, and the new traps are far more sinister.

Although newcomers to TASVideos's player list, Taco and Kriole are both experienced TASers in regards to Super Metroid, this time having teamed up in a mission to perfect one of the most contested games in the site's history.

Using a new route and taking advantage of several techniques, never demonstrated before in other Super Metroid runs outside of waiting areas, they made short work of Mother Brain and her space pirates. The in-game completion time is 23 minutes 29 seconds, and 18% of the items have been collected. Thus, both the realtime and the in-game any% movies were obsoleted. (The in-game time category has since been improved to beat this run in in-game time, although not real time.)

Note: The actual rerecord count in this run is unknown. Please read the authors' submission notes and the discussion thread for more information.

Super Metroid is a game that requires very little introduction. Samus Aran, a bounty hunter, returns to the planet of Zebes, in order to explore its depths, and defeat Mother Brain and the Space Pirates.

In this run, Saturn completes the game with the minimal amount of items, without skipping bosses or major glitches, which was considered "legit conditions" by the community. This movie had a notable flame war about its acceptability, see the discussion thread. Its submission also was revived and rerejected several times in a row.

Super Metroid is a very well-known game in the world of TASing, and there have been many speedruns of this game published here at TASVideos over the years. This run demonstrates one of the hardest categories of speedrun possible for the game, Reverse Boss Order. In this category, Samus kills the four main bosses backwards from the game's intended order.

This category is especially difficult, since Samus does not receive her extra suits until quite late in the run. As a result, most of the gameplay in Norfair is a desperate race against the clock as Samus's health decreases constantly in the heated areas. Needless to say, every single energy tank matters much more than it ever would in a normal run. Also, water areas in Maridia are quite difficult to navigate quickly without the Gravity Suit.

This run, by Saturn, improves on the previous movie by 1:24.26 due to a number of new tricks and strategies. See the submission notes for more details.

This movie sees the reinstatement of the in-game category, which was previously merged with the realtime run. Despite being slightly slower in terms of real time, this speedrun is both extremely optimised and breaks previous records once thought to be the limit of the game.

In The Firemen the player controls the fireman, Pete. The Metrotech building is a high-rise chemical plant, which today is hosting a Christmas party, and a fire! Gameplay follows Pete and his sidekick Danny, but there are also three other members of the unit that show up in cutscenes. Their plan is to collect the dangerous explosive MDL from the basement, and use it to blow up the water tank on the roof! The game is set in New York, but it never got a US release.

This run uses the invincibility after taking damage from small fires to get past larger fires. Water grenades can greatly speed boss fights, so the route takes detours to pick some up. Explosions from spraying certain windows is used, because it puts out nearby fires. Boss-battles are finished near the door to save time when the game auto-leaves the level.

Full completion of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Both this run and the short version use a wobbling trick in order to make Link walk a bit faster. The execution of this maneuver requires the usage of a controller that allows the player to press Up+Down simultaneously (such as, in this case, a modified Snes9x's controller). The traveling-through-walls trick that is seen in the short version is not used.

This run features an improvement of a little over 4 minutes.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade is a trip through 16th century Japan with cool music, beautiful visuals and fast paced gameplay. Watch as the author introduces you to Momohime, a young princess possessed by an evil spirit who proves quite adept at cutting everything in her path into tiny bits. This run is played on the hardest difficulty, in which Momohime only has 1 hitpoint; but that doesn't slow her down at all.

Note: There are two published encodes. One is 432p, meant to closely mimic the Wii's hardware, and the other is a higher resolution 720p. The 720p encode is 10-bit and may not play back on some older devices.
