| Castlevania, again, only this time played with Maxim and without glitching through walls and completing the game intended. What constitutes as intended in this run is debatable, since Maxim zooms through the castle faster than Sonic on espresso, and sends shurikens ripping through bosses before they realize they can attack you. | ||

| The glitched Aria of Sorrow main quest TAS has become even more glitched. Using an obscure out-of-room travel technique involving in-game saving and subsequent dying, klmz ploughs through the game with confident pace of a cold-blooded killing machine in a little under seven minutes — whole 5 minutes and 20 seconds faster than the previous movie by zggzdydp. We recommend reading the author's comments for more information on the death warp glitch and other timesaving techniques used to make this improvement happen. If you would like to see more of the game, we also have a glitchless Aria of Sorrow movie here. | ||

| Those who greatly dislike that Aria of Sorrow's main character isn't related to the Belmont clan whatsoever can safely relax, because the powerhouse known as Julius Belmont enters the stage in the relatively short run of this Castlevania installment.
Julius is only available to those who have completed the main quest, but unlike Soma Cruz, Belmont can't go through walls or use other fancy tricks like that. Being very upset about it, he hops around the castle madly, producing almost inhuman sounds with every jump.
The improvement of 61 seconds came from these new movement techniques and better boss fights.
Note: this movie starts where a main quest TAS left off. We do not usually accept movies beginning from a save. Please read our rules to see our reasons.

| Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, beaten in less than half an hour from a new game without taking damage from anything. The author skips getting the Undine soul and a decently-sized portion of the castle by using an edge-of-ledge oversight in the game's programming to gain a little extra height. There is quite a lot of luck manipulation in this movie, but some familiarity with the game is required to notice it. | ||

| When played normally, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is a rather long game, in which exploration, leveling up, and killing bosses in order to gain access to different items or portions of the castle is necessary. However, a bit of luck manipulation and a series of glitches involving DSS cards throw all these aspects of gameplay out of the window, allowing the player to warp directly to Dracula and kill him humiliatingly in just over 5 minutes. This movie is a 21 frame improvement over the previous movie by the same author due to some small optimizations. | ||

| Nathan Graves is a vampire hunter trying to save his master, Morris, from the clutches of Dracula. Normally this would require collecting lots of different items as well as hours of leveling, but Cardboard proves collectible cards passé by gathering almost none of the cards required for spells and blazing through the game at warp speed without regard to levels or his own safety. The first quest completion time of this fast paced game got nearly cut in half thanks to Juste's ability to sink into walls when going at very high speed. Please, don't try this at home!
This is a 56 second improvement over the author's previous movie.
However, if you still think there is not enough zipping through walls, make sure to see the second quest completed in less than half a minute!
Selected quotes from JXQ:
Come follow on the adventure through a castle that contains no less than eighty clashing colors in each room! Be amazed as Juste Belmont, Simon's grandson, has to do the usual vampire hunting despite looking nothing like his grandfather (or a man at all). Question his motives when he takes time out of his rescue mission to decorate the basement he will soon destroy! Feel the pain as Juste struggles to understand that there actually are two castles!! | Joe Osugi, bizarre 'anti-terrorist ninja', is called in to assist the local police, who seem to be completely useless in rescuing some hostages. The game is basically a series of rooms connected together. Your job is to rescue the hostages and then escape the stage through the red door. You have in your arsenal a three-level shuriken, a sword, and a grappling hook similar to the one from Bionic Commando. Joe also has two special abilities: to make himself invincible and to attack all enemies on screen. | This Sonic Advance movie is unique as a speedrun in one aspect: the hero (Sonic) moves so fast that the "camera" of the game cannot even follow him. Therefore, Sonic is rarely seen in the movie. On the rare occasions we get to watch Sonic, we get to enjoy seeing him moving through walls, charging up for another dash, or making short work of bosses. Besides the super fast speed itself, the speed also provides Sonic an ability (glitch) to pass through platforms and walls under certain conditions. Note: this run has two AVIs available for download. The first one is normal, ~48 MB in size and shows the movie including the credits and all. The second one is ~77 MB in size and it shows two screens side by side — the one on the left is identical to the normal version; the one on the right is made with a special emulator, hacked to force the game's camera to focus on Sonic, making it much easier to follow what nitsuja is doing with him. Unlike the first video, this version doesn't show the credits and anything following them.

| Disappointed with slow paced movies that may be good but just move too slowly? Look no further, nitsuja in this extremely high-speed run demonstrates how to break the sound barrier and why Sonic is the fastest character in the video game universe. The average character movement speed in this movie is probably the highest of all the movies on this site. This movie doesn't collect any of the Chaos Emeralds, but does demonstrate almost every single move that Sonic is capable of in this game. | ||

| In this game, based loosely on the 2007 summer blockbuster, we see our friendly neighborhood Spider-man zip through 15 levels and 5 bosses with speed, style, and a sexy new black suit. In this run, mmbossman heavily abuses a technique that allows him to maintain a very high speed throughout each level, stopping only to rescue civilians or disable bombs. However, since speed isn't as important in boss fights, Spidey also gets a chance to show off some of his acrobatic and martial arts skills. | ||

| This movie proves the benefit of sleeping in late. In a departure from most runs, which try to start as soon as possible, the author avoids any input for over two minutes to enable a faster route. This Wario game is a fairly unique platformer, where you not only play as "the bad guy" but normal damage is replaced with various status effects like catching on fire. | This is Metroid II: Return of Samus completed with all the items collected. Being truthful to the original Metroid values, the game holds many items cleverly hidden, so finding all of them is not an easy task. That being said, Metroid II doesn't keep track of the collected items' percentage. Moreover, the game has two excessive Energy tanks and an additional copy of each beam. It's been agreed that the author should take all the E-tanks, and at least one copy of each beam. However, due to the apparent linearity of this game, collecting so many additional items doesn't make the movie dramatically slower. This movie is nearly 6 minutes faster than Alter's previous movie due to better precision, faster Metroid fights, and missile planning. Note: This movie does not use secret worlds, also known as "select glitch". | ||

| The Game Boy series is a little different from the NES series in that there are only four Robot Masters to fight at the start. Those four are borrowed from the NES game of the same number, while four more Robot Masters from the next NES game guard Dr. Wily’s fortress. Game Boy Wily also likes to have a backup fortress in space after his first one is beaten. Another recurring concept in the Game Boy games is a ninth robot boss unique to the game who gives you a new weapon that is usually the only weapon effective against the final boss. We recommend reading the author’s comments of this movie ― there is a lot of it. Bisqwit: The soundtrack of this game sucks and is put together by some very inexperienced composer. (Most of the themes are remixes of NES Rockman themes.) | ||

| Super Smash Bros began a series of games that mixes characters from several Nintendo-made games in a unique fighting game. It relies not on wearing down the opponent's "life" but increasing damage until he or she can be literally knocked off the stage. Wildly popular, this game has inspired many lazy days of casual multiplayer gaming but also intense competitive tournaments that happen to this day. We have seen several submissions for this game here but this is the first one to be published. The author shows off fancy fighting with Yoshi on the hardest difficulty. Rather than the usual goal of speed, this movie aims to be as entertaining as possible in the tradition of all fighting games here. | Astyanax (1990) is the story of a studly 16-year-old boy named Astyanax who is summoned to the world of Remlia in order to save the enchantress Princess Rosebud from the evil wizard Blackhorn, who wants to rule the world. It is a somewhat clumsy game. For one, Astyanax is twice as big as he appears, and so he is easily hit unless one plays carefully. The controls are also very bad. The sum of these factors is that it's a difficult game to play, but that's part of what makes this movie interesting—especially for those who have played this game. Thanks to effective lag management and using a different weapon, the author has achieved 85 seconds worth of improvement over the previous movie by Walker Boh. | ||

| Batman: Return of the Joker (1991) is the sequel to the first Batman game for the NES. Being one of the later NES titles, it shows surprisingly good and fluid visuals, fullsize art, and decent sound — all without slowdown issues! The gameplay has undergone some changes compared to its predecessor. A welcome addition to it is a slide movement, similar to the one in the Mega Man series. A not-so-welcome addition is that half the stages are autoscrolling, and there are no close combat weapons now. | ||
