Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers is the fourth installment of the Space Quest adventure series, and the first Space Quest game with point-and-click gameplay, as compared to its text-based predecessors. In this game, Roger Wilco is thrown into the future at Space Quest XII, and must stop Vohaul, whose consciousness lives inside another person. To do so, he must time-travel within the future (Space Quest X and XII) and to the past (Space Quest I) to gain information needed to achieve this goal.

The author, c-square, completes this game using major sequence breaks that are almost impossible to perform unassisted without abusing saves. To help with this TAS, the source code of JPC-rr was modified to support mouse input fully. See the submission text for details.

Eggerland is a predecessor of the NES Adventures of Lolo games, and in certain ways, it has much more features than Adventures of Lolo 1.

This movie abuses a couple of the game bugs in a surprising way.

Note that this is a Famicom Disk System game. Read What is FDS for more information.

Also note that this movie is about 42 seconds longer than the previous movie. This is due to the inaccurate (shorter) FDS load times emulated by famtasia.

Kuru Kuru Kururin is an unusual game that is a mix of racing/puzzle genres. The player controls a slowly spinning stick called the Helirin, and must maneuver it through a series of mazes. The player controls the direction and speed of movement but not the Helirin's constant rotation. In this fast paced TAS Ryuto chooses to ignore damage penalties in exchange for blazing fast realtime completion and creative methods of getting around the Helirin's forced rotation to squeeze into even the tiniest of gaps.

Kururin Paradise is the sequel to Kuru Kuru Kururin. Once again you control the Helirin, but this time you have a small measure of control over its rotation. This extra control allowed Ryuto to create a movie that can aim for fastest time without taking damage.

Also added to the sequel are several strange and entertaining minigames, such as using the Helirin to mow grass or attack intruding enemies Space Invaders style.

Combining the Nintendo DS's touch screen capabilities with a classic puzzle game and adding in a touch of the tool-assisted yields... a tool-assisted run of a classic puzzle game, joining the ranks of several other quirky movies similar in character. While tool-assistance may on the surface seem trivial in this case, a decidedly non-trivial amount of luck manipulation was used to create a cube solvable in the fewest possible moves. Further, the game only counts moves in quarter turns, making the number of moves used even more impressive.

Adventures of Lolo (1989) was the first game of the Eggerland series that received a Western release. The series itself is rather loosely related to Kirby series: both have been developed by the same company (HAL Laboratory), and Eggerland protagonists Lolo and Lala make cameo appearances in Kirby games as Lololo and Lalala.

The goal of the game is to collect all hearts in every stage, then get the ball from the chest to open the door to the next room.

Lolo may seem simplistic, but it remains being a truly well-made puzzle. Finding optimal solutions to most of the rooms has proven to be a very nontrivial task, and every once in a while a new improvement is found.

As such, this is Baxter's 10th attempt at this game, this time 10.16 seconds faster than the previous. Eleven rooms have been improved.

Important! For the weak-spirited who aren't willing to watch the run all over again only for the improved rooms, the author has inserted an easter egg into the key input movie! If you run the same .fm2 on the NES game Defenders of the Crown, it will as well complete it in just 3 minutes and 38 seconds.

Mendel Palace is an action-puzzle game. When playing in real-time, it becomes more action than puzzle, and when TASing, it becomes more puzzle than action. The idea is to shove your opponents into the walls of the arena by flipping over ground tiles. This is harder than it looks, since the enemies often approach in swarms and can kill you with one touch.

Flipping can also reveal some other tile types. For instance, the sun tile flips over everything else, which often cleans up the arena in a hurry. However, there are also extra enemy spawn areas that can be uncovered, especially in the last levels. For more details, see the run's submission comments.

DarkKobold beats the game in just over 19 minutes by using 2 players at the same time.

The title of this game is very appropriate, as wherever you look there are walls you can break through, or invisible blocks you can make appear.

In order to complete this game as fast as possible, every little secret must be known ahead of time, and the author clearly exhibits such knowledge.

This movie was made with the Japanese version, 迷宮組曲 (Meikyuu Kumikyoku, meaning labyrinth composition), but it is essentially identical to the English version, except for the shop/intro text language.

It is about two minutes faster than the previous version, mostly due to much faster boss fights and more precise maneuvers.

Moai Kun is a fun, fast-paced puzzle-platformer where the goal is to rescue all your pink friends and then reach the door - to continue to the next stage. It has a surprising amount of action for a puzzle game.

In this run, all 56 levels are well-solved and well-played. There are some unexpected twists, such as going through walls, that allows levels to be beaten much faster than normal.

This game is yet another example of Konami's fascination with moai (Easter Island statues).

Pipe Dream is a game about keeping unsolidified jello in tubes long enough for it to solidify. More or less.

In this movie, Explosion Pills places pipes faster than a plumber on fifteen cups of coffee and only goes as far as absolutely required to contain the goo.

Unfortunately, the annoying music played though most of the game is the "turbo mode" music, and since turbo mode makes the goo flow faster, it can't be ignored in a run that aims for fastest time. It's a good idea to just turn off sound while watching this movie.

This movie stops after playing though all stages once. After that, they repeat endlessly, not unlike Elevator Action and Circus Charlie, among others.

On June 28, 2008, the AVI was replaced with one that did not have a video/audio desync.

Quarth might be best described as a mix of a shooter and Tetris. You control a ship that moves horizontally at the bottom, and shoot incoming blocks or groups of blocks (adding tiles to them) to give them a rectangular shape and make them disappear. Each level scrolls at an increasing speed until you reach the end, and you lose if a block reaches the line floating above the ship.

Solomon’s Key is a puzzle platform game with an old clumsy magician who has the power of creating and destroying platforms. And through that power, he saves the world.

This movie plays all the rooms of the game, including the hidden rooms with Page of Time, Page of Space, and even a princess of some kind. (Fairy collection rooms were not included.) No warps were used. Due to those secrets, it accomplishes the best ending of the game.

This movie is almost a minute and a half faster than the predecessor movie. In addition, it marks the obsoletion of the last Famtasia movie.

Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos (1990) follows a wizard called Shadax on his quest to retrieve the eponymous staff in order to save a princess from being unjustly incarcerated. The game is essentially a huge isometric labyrinth filled with devious traps and oddball creatures to ensure especially frustrating peril in the absence of any kind of map to help the player. (Well, at least it was like that before the Internet era, but make no mistake: the game isn't by any means easy nowadays, either.) One of the most memorable aspects of the game is its jazzy musical theme filled with deep bass notes uncommon for the NES.

This is a 100% completion run of Solstice. Getting 100% means visiting every room and picking up all items. We have an any% published Solstice run that can be seen here.

This movie aims for the fastest possible time to get a score of 999999 in this game. A surprising 17.53 seconds have been shaved off the previous movie through the discovery of a new glitch.

It warps directly to the 18th level and fills half of the field quickly to be able to operate short distances in the top part of the field. From there on, it only gets tetrises (4-line clearings) until the score is maxed out.

A glitch involving pressing several directional buttons at once is used to manipulate luck for the next pieces. Flickering of the next piece block and piece in play results. Of course, the fun doesn't stop there, the L blocks also have their say in getting tetrises.

For the record, this is the fastest speed the NES game is capable of. For more extreme Tetris fun, please see movies from Arika Online.

To the average player, Tetris is a fast-paced action/puzzle blend where reflexes become a huge factor as pieces pile up and speed increases dramatically. For one with perfect reflexes, however, it's no longer a challenge of 'where does the next piece go to make lines / avoid piling up?' so much as 'where can I put the next piece to make things look the most interesting?'.

This run exemplifies that philosophy, exploiting the ability to manipulate the next piece that appears to the fullest in the service of creating a pattern which would be nigh impossible to duplicate in real world conditions.

If you thought that TASing was only about speed, look no further than this example to prove otherwise.

The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle is a frustrating action puzzler. In it, you take control of Bugs as he collects carrots while avoiding enemies such as Sylvester the Cat, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, and Wile E. Coyote.

This game features 4 "Special Levels" which can be accessed either by the "No Carrot Signs" found in several levels or by a password. In this run, the author, Brandon, completes these difficult levels with absolutely no help from the boxing gloves and potions featured in the main game. All he has to work with is precise movement and luck manipulation, and although this, coupled with the numerous enemies, make these levels far less trivial than the main ones, the completion time is still relatively small. Much of the length of this movie is a result of the unavoidable and abnormally long tube scenes in S4 and S1. For more details, as always, please see the author's notes, and also make sure to watch the captions provided in the encodes.

This author has also created a run of the main game.

This run has two YouTube steams. The first contains no input display while the second one does. This was included as the luck manipulation is heavily based on input, and it's hard to follow the run otherwise.

The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle is a frustrating action puzzler. In it, you take control of Bugs as he collects carrots while avoiding enemies such as Sylvester the Cat, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, and Wile E. Coyote. Equipped with nothing but an occasional boxing glove which he can throw and some invincibility potions, Bugs must eat his way through 60 levels without getting trapped by a mob of Looney Tunes.

In this run, the author, Brandon, exploits the game's AI, which is everything but intelligent. Only one of these enemies follow actual movement, while the others will track your input, even if the input changes nothing. As such, the author is able to often render the enemies useless, allowing him to take the most optimal path. When he can't do this, he tries to find the best possible workaround, often pausing for the exact right amount of time to make it past a baddie. As a secondary goal, the author also attempts to maximize the score without losing time. For more details, as always, please see the author's notes, and also make sure to watch the captions provided in the encodes.

This author has also created a run of this game's "Special Levels".

MediEvil tells the tale of one very deceased knight's quest to rid the land of undead legions and the wicked magician that created them. The gameplay is very reminiscent of the action-platformers of old, consisting largely of running around each stage whilst hacking up baddies. But there is also a good share of puzzles to be solved. Goof Troop (1993) is a cheerful puzzle game based on Disney show of the same name. The gameplay is somewhat similar to NES Legend of Zelda with its maze-like map filled with one-screen rooms, except this time the emphasis on puzzles is stronger, and you can play in co-op.

In this movie the authors control two characters (Goofy and Max) simultaneously. This allows for a good deal of team work as one character can go get an item while the other heads for the exit. When there is no multi-tasking to do, the authors do a good job performing antics with one or both of the characters.

This is a nearly 4 minute improvement over Frenom's previous movie. Improvements come from new tricks, better teamwork, luck manipulation and optimized movements.

Lemmings! This is a SNES translation of the well known and popular game.

This TAS, played by Lord Tom, completes the game on the Mayhem difficulty level. We recommend reading the author's level-by-level comments which explain some of the strategies used in the levels.

The category "takes damage to save time" was flagged because some of the lemmings were sacrificed for overall best completion time (in some levels, it is even necessary).

When played at full speed, Super Bomberman 2 is a straightforward action game, but if it's played in slow motion, it becomes an extremely tactical puzzle game. The author of this movie uses several tactics that are difficult to understand if one is watching the movie at full speed. These include setting up chain reactions and clearing up the end of the level before even reaching it. To get a better grasp of the techniques used, read the author's comments.

This is an improvement of exactly 2 minutes and 19 seconds over the predecessor movie. Most of the time is saved from lag management, new tricks and better strategy.

Super Gussun Oyoyo is a puzzle game best described as a mixture of Lemmings and Tetris. Two treasure hunters named Gussun and Oyoyo are exploring a dungeon when an earthquake occurs, causing the dungeon to begin sinking. The player controls blocks akin to Tetris pieces, leading Gussun to the dungeon exit before it submerges completely.

This run starts from stage 21, the latest possible stage that the game allows one to start on.

Publisher's note: There is a glitch in the sound between stage 30 and 32 inclusive which is a result of the run itself, and not of the encoding.

Puyo Puyo is an extremely popular puzzle game in Japan similar to Tetris in some ways. By making a chain of 4 or more Puyo's, they explode and deliver garbage onto the opponent's screen. This run produces combos strong enough to completely overwhelm the competition every time.

This game style has been released under other names such as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche, but the core gameplay is the same.

- Aims for maximum score
- Uses hardest difficulty
- Genre: Puzzle
This Tetris Attack movie aims to get the highest score in the shortest amount of time possible. The result is obtained by executing multiple combos simultaneously, building them up to level 13. Combo bonuses are no longer awarded after getting 13 consecutively due to a bug in the game.

The level of play is far and above what any human could do in real-time on this game.

This is an improvement of 7.88 over the previous movie by the same author, zvsp. He does this primarily by starting each chain with one explosion. That way, he can explode the saved blocks during the chain, which, thanks to a glitch, gets him around 25000 points for every 13x chain. This allows him to beat the game in four chains instead of the previous five.

This movie was played on Japanese version of Tetris Attack called Panel De Pon.

In this version, the scoring system works a bit differently, so instead of doing many combos in a chain as the US version movie does, a few very large combos help reaching the goal about 30 seconds faster, achieving it at 0'25 by ingame time.

There are no other differences between the two versions.

The author, zvsp, made an improvement of 8.18 seconds over Baxter's run in the previous movie. He did this by changing the character selected from Thiana to Elias, combining combos at the same time to yield bigger combos, and performing a mysterious technique that renders the "STOP" sequence useless, allowing him to cut off the movie once the last combo is made.

Shortly after the previous movie's publication, the author realized that unlike Baxter, he did not select his character in the optimal way. Correcting this, he saved 1.31 seconds. Nothing else was changed.

This little-known Japanese wire-action platformer, with a very well-made rubber wire physics simulating engine, sports a schoolgirl setting out to rid the world of giant mutant fish.

The game is very easy to win, but very difficult to play (try it). This video demonstrates one of the fastest paths to the ending, including quite a few almost impossible maneuvers ― whether playing tool-assisted or not.

This video is a 7 seconds improvement to the previous version.

See the Umihara Kawase page for more information about this game, and the author's comments for more information about this movie.

Umihara Kawase (海腹川背) is about a schoolgirl with a bag of holding and a rubber fishing line setting out to rid the world of giant mutant fish.

This video plays the longest path of the game having only two bosses, aka. Bob's path, which you can find at the Field Map page.

The Umihara Kawase page has more information about this game.

The boss levels are quite long in this movie ― they can't really be sped up, but the author of the movie has done his best to make it worth watching.

No frogs were harmed in the making of this movie.
