This hack of Super Mario Bros. is the sequel to Air, created by the same author, U1. The vast majority of this hack is exactly the same as its predecessor, but with two major changes: all invisible coin blocks are marked and infinite jumps are no more, which results in a few changes in level design accommodated to it.

Air 2 is a trial-and-error platform puzzle game. Savestates are practically required to beat the game. Abuse of Super Mario Bros. glitches is required by design.

This run does not aim for fastest completion.

Extra Mario Bros is a hack of the original Super Mario Bros. It is noteworthy for being a complete "Metroidvania" game built around the original SMB engine, with very few changes to the engine itself. The five areas in the game are all interconnected (via pipes, naturally), and permanent upgrades have been added to make a more Metroid-ish feel. (Did I mention the music from Super Metroid? Because there's music from Super Metroid.)

However, despite his newfound ability to return to levels he's visited before and acquire upgrades that don't go away when he dies, Mario still cannot move to the left.

This movie collects all of the keys and fights the true final boss, but only collects two of the upgrades.

In this Legend of Zelda hack, Link must save Hyrule (again), reclaiming the Triforce of Power from Thunderbird. Baxter does it masterfully, exploiting glitches from the original game to get the job done quickly. This movie completes both quests.

If you'd like to see a movie of the original unhacked Legend of Zelda, we have that too, as well as a movie of the second quest.

Mario Adventure is a hack of Super Mario Bros 3. These are the most noteworthy characteristics of it.

  • Mario can keep a power-up in reserve, similar to how Super Mario World works except the change is immediately effective.
  • There is a new power-up, Magic Mario, which can stomp on more enemies than otherwise possible, shoots extremely powerful projectiles, and can take a few hits before losing the power-up.
  • There are 7 worlds which Mario can visit in any order. Each world has a key hidden somewhere within it.
  • After finding all 7 keys and beating the 7 worlds, Mario can access the 8th world to win the game.
  • Almost all levels end with a Boom-Boom battle.
  • Mario Adventure includes its own custom palette for graphics rendering.

The author improves on the previous run by an impressive 6 minutes.

Award - Most innovative TAS of 2007
The games Mega Man 3, 4, 5 and 6 are all the same. Eight robot masters are defeated and Mega Man steals their weapons. After some kind of distraction, Mega Man attacks Wily's fortress and it typically gets blown up. If you don't believe that's true, we offer this movie.

While driving home the point in honour of our other multi-game movie, Baxter and AngerFist prove that Capcom really has been making the same game over and over again by playing Mega Man 3, 4, 5 and 6 using the same input.

No attempt is made to synchronize the endings of these games. Mega Man 6 finishes first and Mega Man 4 finishes last.

The CPU demands for playback of this movie are unusually high. Systems under 1.2 GHz may struggle to play this video. The audio has been processed by adelikat for virtual surround sound.

We recommend sitting back as far as possible and looking (staring?) at the center of the screen when watching the AVI.

If you like this movie, you may like to check out the movie in which two games are played simultaneously with one controller.

This popular hack for Rockman 2 contains a wide variety of new bosses, weapons, levels, graphics, and music, going far beyond the capabilities of the original game.

Two versions of this hack exist - "normal" mode and "hard" mode, with the primary difference being no mercy invincibility on hard mode.

This run uses hard mode. The normal run is obsoleted despite being around 2 minutes faster due to playing on hard.

- Uses death to save time
- Uses warps
- Uses a game restart sequence
- Single level
- Uses a level password
- Genre: Shooter
Zanac is one of those space shooter games in which you are trying to save the earth.

Due to the highly repetitive nature of this game, the hidden 9th input button (the console's Reset button) is used to warp to the last level. This results in an unsually long grey screen at the start of the movie. Starting on the final level with 3 lives and only the initial pea-shooter for a weapon normally makes the game near impossible to win.

The author takes advantage of frame perfect timing to upgrade rapid fire to the maximum in a single level; this allows for an improvement of 3 seconds during the boss fight.

There is more than just an appearance change to this game. Knuckles' abilities remain intact. If you haven't seen Sonic the Hedgehog completed before, you may wish to do so before seeing what a character with a spindash and gliding can accomplish.

There is also a run for a Tails hack of Sonic the Hedgehog, done by marzojr. It replaces Knuckles with Tails and gliding with flying.

Chrono Trigger is a long RPG that typically takes hours to days to complete. We already have one tool-assisted speedrun of this game.

However, this game also has a NewGame+ mode, where all the equipment and characters' stats are preserved from the previous completions, and player is allowed to fight the last boss, Lavos, almost immediately since the beginning. This movie happens to start from a save file with optimized equipment and character stats, created specifically for NewGame+. (We do not generally accept movies starting from predefined saves. Read the rules to see our reasons.)

This new version of a NewGame+ TAS by inichi is 2 minutes and 24 seconds faster than his previous attempt due to the discovery of a certain data-manipulating glitch that allows dealing maximum amount of damage every critical hit. It is only possible to do on the Japanese version of the game, which is the reason for a version change. See the author's comments for a detailed explanation.

The killing blow is delivered in just under five minutes of gameplay, but additional time has to be spent to go through the Dream Team scene in order to make the game actually end.

Watch as two Final Fantasy games, V and VI (VI is also III in North-American publication), are beaten with one controller's input. Since FFVI takes longer to beat than FFV, the FFV run also beats a few optional bosses which are not fought in the single-game run of FFV. The two games finish at the same time.

Since FFV is only available in Japanese, FFVI is also played with the Japanese version. The (J) version of FFVI also has an equipment glitch which is not present in the (U) version. Otherwise, this run of FFVI is quite similar to our single-game FFVI movie.

One person's silly idea is another person's inspiration.

This movie is essentially constructed by taking one controller and wiring it into two SNES emulators at once. The same input is used to play both games to completion. In other words, the player plays two games simultaneously with one controller.

Note: There is a visual anomaly during the battle with Serges in X 2. This is an emulator bug relating to the Cx4 chip used in the Mega Man X 2 cartridge.

If you like this movie, be sure to check out the movie that even beats four games with one controller!

This hack of Super Mario World contains a Star World which contains themed levels that connect to various locations on the map. Like the original Super Mario World, these levels can be used as a makeshift warp zone. This movie demonstrates this path - navigating the Star World to charge straight to Bowser, leaving much of the game untouched.

This movie is a whopping 24 second improvement to the previous movie. Full list of changes can be read in the authors' comments.

The homepage for Super Demo World, including the patch to be used on a Super Mario World ROM, and the program used to make the hack, is available online.

This movie utilizes all of the tricks found in the Super Mario World tricks section in addition to new recently discovered tricks to beat the previous movie by 48.6 seconds. See the author's comments for more details.

Arguably one of the most well known and well developed SNES hacks in existence, Super Demo World puts Mario into a new realm that spans well beyond his original adventure.

Features of Super Demo World include:

  • Ability to store more unconventional items in the reserve box, such as a koopa, springboard, message box, or vine
  • 120 exits in total, including two secret worlds
  • Creative and challenging level design, with some puzzle elements thrown in
  • "New" graphics (mostly backgrounds taken from other games, such as Donkey Kong Country 3 and Mega Man X)

The homepage for Super Demo World, including the patch to be used on a Super Mario World ROM, and the program used to make the hack, is available online.

To see a much shorter run completing the minimum number of stages, see this run.

Please read the welcome page if you haven't already done so. It explains the rules and methods that apply to all of these movies, particularly the use of savestates and frame advance. Also refer to our Glossary to understand terms we use, such as TAS or other unfamiliar terms.
