- Genre: RPG
Azure Dreams is an RPG random dungeon crawler where the main character, Koh, can recruit familiars and level them up in the 40-floor Monster Tower, while gaining items and riches. He can also help the local town and romance some girls.

As can be seen from the movie time, none of this occurs in this TAS. It's just one naked dash to the top and a whole bunch of fortuitous circumstances. Luck manipulation was used on almost every floor to ensure that elevators and helpful traps are strategically located.

Should you decide to play Azure Dreams, this is definitely the wrong way to play the game.

Bishi Bashi Special is a game that's similar to Salary Man Champ, being a Japan-only collection of mini-games with a variety of rules.

This game has two modes, the main mode and Time Trial mode. Time Trial mode features the car level from the main mode as well as a lot of original levels where a button must be pushed over and over as fast as the player can, aptly nicknamed "button mashers".

Spikestuff runs through Time Trial mode, aiming to get the highest score in each minigame with in-game time as a secondary goal. For more details, see the author's comments.

Bishi Bashi Special is a collection of 46 mini-games with a variety of rules.

Here Spikestuff is playing through them quickly while picking up the maximum score of 10 for each. Getting the high score sometimes has odd conditions, like the elephant race where finishing 7-2 is needed for the 10.

For a TAS of a related game, see the Salary Man Champ publication.

The Brood, an ancient race of dragons, is all but extinct. Their power was so strong that they had to be killed. A (as Ryu is named in this run), the last one of the Brood, is awakened after 400 years and decides he wants to know more about his people.

Well aware of his fearful power, A uses it until he becomes strong enough to rely on his physical power, after which he manipulates luck to an indecent extent, using frame-by-frame advancing to pulverize his foes and even the final boss. It may be a little anti-climactic, but it's much quicker this way.

This is currently the second longest published movie (only Final Fantasy VIII is longer). You might want to take your morning and your afternoon to watch this.

Bushido Blade is a series of fighting games with a gimmick: everyone can die in one hit. This kind of gameplay lends itself well to time attacking and TASing.

Slash Mode is an unlockable feature where the challenge is to kill 100 opponents as fast as possible. This game adds on to the original Bushido Blade's Slash Mode with an on-screen timer and more variety in enemies and environments.

In this run, Dammit runs through Slash Mode as fast as possible, finishing with an ingame time of 3'34"76.

Not only was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX but also the first PSX game to have a published run here. Follow Dracula's son Alucard as he glitches through the castle on a quest to end his father's life.

ForgoneMoose manages to improve the previous run by 21.55 seconds due to better luck manipulation and movement technique.

A run that beats the game even faster through save data corruption is available here, and a 100% run covering the whole castle can be found here. If you prefer the main character to have muscular bare arms and to pray to the rain gods to defeat bosses, you may enjoy the Richter version. If you want to see a run on Replay mode that can skip many cutscenes, see this run.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX, and was also the very first PSX game to have a published TAS.

Follow Richter (playable after you beat the game once) as he glitches and speeds through the castle on a quest to defeat Dracula. If you like fast sliding, dashing, uppercutting, and using precipitation to defeat bosses, you'll love this run.

TASVideos also has several runs using Alucard, including a Replay run, a run that aims for fastest time on a clean save, and a run that explores every room in the castle and obtains all relics.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX. Follow Dracula's son Alucard as he glitches through the castle on a quest to end his father's life.

This run is played on a Replay save file (not newgame+ because neither experience nor items are carried over) using the Luck Mode command. Using Replay allows the player to skip most cutscenes and alters what the librarian can sell. Using Luck Mode lowers the player's base strength which, among other changes, ironically makes the run faster by enabling a route filled with kicking enemies that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

This run is about twenty seconds faster than the previous version due to a changed route that makes different use of glitches. More details can be found in the author's comments.

A 100% run covering the whole castle is also available. If you want to see a run that starts from a clean save, you may enjoy this run. If you prefer the main character to have muscular bare arms and pray to the rain gods to defeat bosses, you may enjoy the Richter version.

Award - PSX TAS of 2010
Like most games in the Castlevania series, Symphony of the Night has different possible endings. To achieve the best ending, one must explore at least 1847 rooms which is normally a huge, time-consuming task.

However, in this run, certain abilities are gained that allow Alucard to move at tremendous speed along glitched routes that players in 1997 could not have even dreamed of.

While traveling through all those rooms, the author, arukAdo, simultaneously acquires all of the relics, making this an "all relics and best ending" run.

Castlevania Chronicles is a PSX remake of the Japan-only X68000 version of Castlevania, titled simply Akumajō Dracula (悪魔城ドラキュラ), which is a remake of the first Castlevania game. In this game, Simon Belmont is set to defeat the evil count Dracula.

In the run, the author uses Arrange Mode, as it's more suitable for taking damage to save time (Simon loses less HP when getting hit in Arrange Mode than in Original Mode). Furthermore, a trick allows him to use a subweapon with less attack animation (jumping and whipping twice before attacking with the subweapon).

The author uses luck manipulation to get favorable floor layouts, descending rapidly through the dungeons while still collecting items needed to kill bosses.

Anyone with a passing familiarity with the Final Fantasy series should recognise the fine Chocobo, preferred steed of many alternate universes. It's therefore not surprising that a game starring Chocobos and races would be released.

The Japanese version of this game is used due to differences in at least one stage causing the Japanese version to be more difficult.

Note that we do not normally accept runs starting from save states. See the Rules for more information.

This is the second in a series of seminal platformers for the PlayStation, with very similar gameplay to its predecessor.

This run by Mukki finishes the game fast without using the box glitch to corrupt the memory. There is also a run that uses this glitch and completes the game even faster.

Note for viewers: In order to be sync-stable, a sound plugin with less than perfect sound quality needed to be used, so do not be alarmed if the sound is not flawless. However, using a different plugin was possible for the introduction and the ending. There is also a slight graphical glitch in level 23 where textures are missing, but this is very minor.

Disney's Hercules is based on the animated movie of the same name. You take control of Hercules of Greek mythology, son of the god Zeus and a mortal woman, the legendary hero and strongest man in the world. Your goal is to prove yourself worthy of being admitted to Mount Olympus, the residence of gods, and to become a god yourself. You must commit heroic deeds and overcome various obstacles to show your strength and courage. To make this even more difficult, Hades, the overlord of the dead, is sending fearsome Titans to stop you.

The author, Hoandjzj, uses precision and a few tricks to beat this game in just under 34 minutes.

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 is a fighting game based on the Dragon Ball Z anime series. The "22" refers to the number of characters unlocked at the start of the game (a few more can be unlocked). The game was panned by critics and consumers alike because of its very poor overall quality.

The author, Mothrayas, uses Goku's ridiculously powerful crouching close punch move to deplete enemies' lifebars really quickly and defeat all 27 opponents in record time.

Ehrgeiz - God Bless the Ring is a game with two main modes. The first mode is a 3D fighting game, which is primarily known for including characters from Final Fantasy 7. The PlayStation-exclusive second mode, Quest Mode, is a dungeon-crawling RPG, where randomly generated floor layouts and dropped item probabilities make the game different every time you play.

This run plays through Quest Mode, using lots of luck manipulation to get very short floor layouts. (As a commenter noted in the discussion thread, the game may be more aptly called "God Bless the RNG".)

Squaresoft (now known as Square Enix) didn't only make role-playing games! They also made games of different genres. This one is a shoot'em up called Einhänder.

This shooting game has something particular compared to its siblings. Not only can the player shoot bullets, but he can also wield a sword and slash through enemies. In fact, the game's title, Einhänder, means "single-handed" in German, referring to the player's sword.

In this movie, sparky takes advantage of a glitch to abuse the weapon's attack to cause more damage. This is only possible in the Japanese version.

This is the much-anticipated tool-assisted speedrun of the ninth installment in the Final Fantasy series (and the last to be made for the PSX). With its many references to the older games, it's a trip down memory lane for those familiar with the series.

This run completes the famous Excalibur II quest, which requires the player to get to the end of the game in under 12 hours, with over 4 hours and 40 minutes to spare. For more details on the low completion time and the extensive route planning put into this run, we recommend reading the author's comments.

Both the MKVs and YouTube encodes have explanatory subtitles to read while watching.

Note: Due to an emulation error, some areas have rather loud background sound effects (like Alexandria during Vivi's first appearance).

There are two YouTube streams available for this movie. The first is a four-part playlist offering HD video, and the second is all in one stream in 480p.

Final Fantasy VIII (1999) marked a significant departure from earlier Squaresoft titles — it was their first game to have realistically proportioned characters and did away with much of the traditional gameplay systems used by earlier titles. Additionally, it is the first Final Fantasy to focus on a love story.

This is the first multi-disc publication on the site, and currently is also the longest published run.

There are two YouTube streams available for this movie. The first is a four-part playlist offering HD video, and the second is contained all in one stream in 720p.

In the 22nd century, the scientists, learning the ancient ways of magic, discovered a new technique that made it possible to create artificial beings by mixing the DNA of humans and animals. Those new creatures, known as Gears, had no will of their own and were destined to obey humans forever. However, a Gear named Justice was somehow capable of disobeying the humans and making his own decisions. He organized a rebellion of Gears, that was later repressed by the knights of the Sacred Order. He was thrown into prison, but recently has broken free, and the Order organized a tournament to find out who is capable of hunting him down again. Among the contenders is Sol Badguy, a man with an unclear past, and his rival Ky Kiske, one of the most skilled knights of the order. The conditions of the tournament are, however, very strange. Spilling blood is allowed, and the first prize is the fulfillment of any wish the winner has.

Guilty Gear is a 2D fighting game in which you can play as one of ten very different characters from among Holy Order knights, Armed Air Force soldiers, Mafia members and mad scientists. Each character has his or her own storyline that will be fully revealed during the final showdown. In battles, you can charge up for special attacks as well as perform Deathblow moves, which can kill the opponent instantly. As well as the regular Arcade mode, you can also challenge your friends to a Versus battle.

In this run, Cooljay and N?K choose Ky Kiske and aim for fastest time in Arcade mode using combo moves as well as Destroy, a tough-to-counter move that instant-kills the opponent.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is the critically acclaimed first game in the Klonoa series. It features the catlike Klonoa and his friend Huepow, a ring spirit. Together, they go on a journey to investigate a mysterious shipwreck that soon turns into a grand adventure to save the land from a powerful demon.

Like Kirby 64, the game is a 2.5D platformer. Klonoa can only move in two dimensions, but everything is rendered in 3D, allowing the path to curve and objects outside the path to be interacted with. Klonoa can attack by throwing Huepow at enemies and having him return with the enemy. Klonoa will then hold the enemy over his head, which allows him either to throw it another enemy or bounce off of it to jump into the air.

In this run, lapogne36 aims to complete the game in the fastest time, chaining enemy jumps and even using death as a shortcut at one point to complete the game in just over 45 minutes.

MediEvil tells the tale of Sir Daniel Fortesque, one very deceased knight, and his quest to rid the land of undead legions and Zarok, the wicked magician who created them. The gameplay is very reminiscent of the action-platformers of old, consisting largely of running around each stage whilst hacking up baddies, though there is also a good share of puzzles to be solved.

Here, Sir Fortesque pulls out his own brand of trickery, warping around levels and outwitting the fiendish puzzles in order to stop Zarok and his forces as quickly as possible.

The eighth entry in the Mega Man series is very similar to the preceding games, especially its direct predecessor (in light of being the second entry in the franchise released for the PSX, the first being a port of X3). Once again, Mega Man takes on eight Robot Masters and goes on to raid Wily's fortress.

If you're here for the plot, though, you're missing the point - instead enjoy the impossibly fast action and nifty glitch abuse in this run of the longest presently-TASable game in the main series to date.

Note: The credits are missing due to an emulator glitch. For those who are interested in seeing the credits, they can be watched here.

In previous Mega Man X games, X would do all the real fighting while Zero would say he was off to destroy power sources and do other such unverifiable tasks. Zero even had the audacity to tell him that one day X would be as strong as him.

This time, X lays back and lets Zero put his money lightsaber where his mouth is, leaving Zero to fight off an entire army as well as Sigma. Zero does such a good job showing how much better he is than X that the series has been transformed for TASVideos to be a Zero series from here on out.

This submission improves the previous run by 12.53 seconds primarily through precise optimization of boss battles.

In an effort to avoid the status quo, Capcom decided to experiment, throwing in a leveling system and story-based launch scenarios. Beyond that, it's really just a Mega Man X Zero game.

This is the first game in the series to allow character choice before each stage. Zero is chosen as often as possible, leaving X behind to gather dust. The abusable sword physics highlight Zero's superiority, especially when the sword is used while standing on the ground. Bosses fall very quickly, even when they have 127 health. See the Game Resources page and the author's comments for an explanation of how these tricks work.

There are about 5 minutes of action in this run, which consist mostly of flying through levels and a boss rush on the hardest difficulty mode, Xtreme.

This run is 12.90 seconds faster than the previous run.

We also have a run which completes all stages and a 100% run.

Capcom decided to make some easy money, so they recycled parts of Mega Man X5, threw in overly difficult trial-and-error gameplay, made almost everything an obstacle course, and called it Mega Man X6.

This run by Rolanmen1 and FractalFusion plays on the hardest difficulty, Xtreme, and uses both X and Zero. The physics of Zero's sword make it the ideal boss killer, however some bosses have unavoidable invincibility periods, so X is sometimes used to attack during these periods. Some new tricks like duck dashing and saber climbing help save 19 seconds over the previous movie.

Rescuing all Reploids on Xtreme mode is inadvisable for all but the most hardcore, yet this TAS makes it look easy. Not only that, it collects everything that can be collected before beating the game.

In this run, Rolanmen1 uses additional items and tricks that are not present in the any% or all stages runs, such as X's Blade Armor. Though X still has less screentime than Zero, he is used to his fullest potential in the Gate stages.

X is trying to find the lost Maverick Hunter Zero, who has gone missing since X5. Of course, once found, Zero does most of the dirty work, while X is practically nowhere to be found.

This run completes all of the stages, showing off how nasty every level is on Xtreme difficulty. As always, Zero is much better suited to killing bosses than X. Zero also uses powerups that he wouldn't be able to use in an any% run.

The author, Rolanmen1, also improves the previous movie by 1:47.03 by taking a different route and using a new trick that allows him to skip the totem poles in Ground Scaravich's stage.

If you want to see the game completed as fast as possible, see the any% run.

Metal Gear Solid was one of the original breakthrough titles in the stealth gaming genre. Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions (Special Missions in Europe) is a series of 300 action-packed extra missions for Metal Gear Solid with enough scintillating Snake-sneaking setpieces to last a lifetime. Originally a part of Integral, the 1999 Japanese re-release of the original game, the VR Missions received a standalone release a year later in North America and Europe as an extra bonus to satisfy fans hungry for more tactical espionage action.

In the Metal Gear universe, VR serves as a substitute for combat experience, allowing trainees to learn how to use weapons and participate in advanced combat scenarios without having to actually be on the battlefield, similar to the training programs in The Matrix. This concept of artificial or digital training serving as a poor man’s replacement for combat experience (particularly where child soldiers are concerned) has been a running theme in the series.

The missions featured in this game include extended tutorials, obstacle courses, challenge maps, setpieces, and some unusual but interesting scenarios such as solving a murder mystery, knocking down guards like dominoes and destroying a UFO. As a reward for completing all the missions, you get a sneak peak at some concept art of Metal Gear RAY from the then-upcoming Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

In this run, watch as theenglishman sneaks, shoots, punches and investigates his way past the world leaderboards for each mission using clever new strategies and precise tricks. For much more information on this movie, check out the submission text.

Monkey Magic is a tie-in game for the PSX based on the anime of the same name. It features a monkey named Kongo, who can move about in the typical platformer manner, as well as cast various magic spells.

The author here uses a variety of tricks to skip parts of the game, and fly over other parts. Monkeys don't have wings, but that doesn't seem to matter here.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a story-driven fighting game that puts you in the shoes of Sub-Zero and chronicles a series of events that occurred prior to the first Mortal Kombat.

You, the Lin Kuei's most cunning assassin, are sent to steal an important document. However, this mission proves to be a test from a mysterious character (who turns out to be MK4's Quan Chi) who charges you upon retrieval of the document to recover an ancient medallion of untold power. Upon your return, Quan Chi reveals that he actually tricked you, and the medallion is the key to awakening the demon Shinnok (yup, the same baddie from MK4). Now a reluctant hero, you must pursue Quan Chi through hell itself hoping you get to Shinnok before him.

Technically speaking, this game represents the final evolutionary step in the MK series' 2D engine. The game takes the familiar 2D Mortal Kombat fighting environment and turns it into a hybrid fighting/platform game, where you must run and jump through hazardous levels as well as fight your way through both digitized and polygonal enemies. Sub-Zero's interface is the same as in every MK game, with the addition of the "use" and "turn around" buttons, an inventory, and a slight RPG twist that gives you EXP for defeating opponents which becomes new techniques and moves to execute in the game.

The author, Thevlackdemonn2294, uses precise movement as well as tricks and glitches to beat the game in under half an hour.

Once a proud, spiritual people, Mudokons have largely been reduced to slavery. Now they are the disposable, abusable workforce of the Glukkons.

This movie is just as odd as the world it features. Abe for no reason decides to commit a baseness upon Glukkons and destroy all the labor force they have industriously collected. He doesn't care that it's his own mates who will die. He's not concerned that he too will be milled in the end. The only thing he has to say about it is "Oops". Twisted creep.

This playaround by Dooty (who also made the any% and 100% runs) aims to finish the game as fast as possible while killing as many Mudokons as possible.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee details the adventures of Abe, a Mudokon, attempting to save his race from slavery and other horrible fates at the hands of the evil Glukkons.

This is the condensed version of a 100% run, in which only one (required) Mudokon is saved. This movie should be perfect for those who don't care about the well-being of the Mudokon race and just want to see some Oddworld parkour. Naturally, this run gets the bad ending.

This run is an improvement of 15:54.23 minutes over Dooty's previous Any% run! The improvement comes from new tricks, different strategies, fewer mistakes and the skipping of some stages.

The movie is slightly shorter than it should be due to emulation-related speedups during screen transitions. The gameplay itself is at mostly the correct speed.

- Genre: Action
Pepsiman is based on the Japanese Pepsi mascot who appeared in different commercials in Japan. In these he appeared where people were thirsty, quenched the people's thirst, then injured himself most of the time.

The game more or less follows this series of events as you run along stages collecting Pepsi cans, while trying your best to avoid injury or public humiliation. The goal of every stage is to run along a set course, jumping or sliding out of harm's way and in the end reach a vending machine with... you guessed it! Pepsi of course!

N?K beats the game while collecting all the Pepsi cans, in order to achieve '100%' completion.

This run begins from a save state which has the minigame unlocked, which can be generated by replaying the author's run of the full game. This is not normally allowed by the site, though an exception can be made if prior approval is granted.

Sorcerer's Maze is a Breakout clone for the PSX. Produced in Japan but only released outside of Japan, it features more power-ups than you can shake a stick at. Giant lasers, tens of balls (or even hundreds, with a strange power-up), stars falling from the sky, and balls nearly as big as the level.

With tool assistance, all of this can be manipulated (to some extent). This run features quite a bit of planning and bonus management, the details of which can be found in the author's comments.

In true platformer-sequel style, Spyro the Dragon's vacation is interrupted by a dinosaur-riding sorcerer by the name of Ripto invading the world of Avalar, who naturally needs to be stopped. Since vacation is the paramount concern of Spyro, this is naturally done as quickly as possible without any concern for the well-being of Avalar.

The author has also done a run for the first game in the series.

A sound plugin with less-than-perfect sound reproduction (in particular during cutscenes like the ending cinematic, which are largely silent) is necessary for the run to sync; do not be alarmed if this affects your enjoyment of the movie.

Once more you must kill the Grandmaster Meio armed only with an insanely badass sword and your ninja skills. A very nice demonstration of what happens when a high-reflex game is given tool assistance.

Only the necessary levels are completed in order to reach the final boss.

Note: There is an emulation bug which makes the character take damage for no apparent reason.

Tekken Force, a paramilitary organization protecting the Mishima karate fighters, is nearly obliterated by the mighty Ogre. Heihachi Mishima's only hope is his grandson Jin Kazama, who lives with his mother Jun, unaware of his legacy. When the Ogre attacks his home and presumably kills his mother, Jin seeks out his grandfather and learns the martial arts of the family. On his nineteenth birthday, Heihachi announces the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 3, hoping that Jin will use the opportunity take out the meddlesome Ogre.

Tekken 3, like its predecessors, is a versus fighting game. New features include prominently featured side-stepping, allowing characters to retreat into the background and back during fights, more combo throws, fifteen more characters, and reduced jumping capabilities to allow for more realistic combat. Also included are two minigames: Tekken Force, a beat-em-up stage that unlocks a new character, and Tekken Ball, a beach volleyball variant where characters are hurt by the ball.

Like in the run of Tekken 2, this TAS by Spikestuff and N?K uses Yoshimitsu to take out every opponent as fast as possible. Depending on your familiarity with the character, the strategy used here may surprise you.

It is 16th century Japan, and you are one of two ninjas employed by Lord Gohda, a uniquely compassionate samurai lord. As either Rikimaru or Ayame, you must proceed through your assigned quests, at first dispatching the amoral and unsavory folk in your lord's domain. As the game progresses, you will come face to face with greater threats from tengu goblins and oni demons.

A full 3D game in the Tomb Raider spirit, Tenchu focuses on stealth and attacking unseen over straight action. Not being spotted leads to higher scores and better equipment. To aid in this, you can not only creep about and hug walls, but you can also use your grappling hook. The scenery is diverse, from Japanese castles to mountain retreats, each with their own soundtrack and types of opponents. Game engine cutscenes push the story forward, which vary slightly for the two ninjas.

In this run, Hâthor doesn't care very much about stealth, and his ninja likes to blow himself up along with the bosses.

You take charge of either the humans and elves or the orcish hordes for control of the lands of Azeroth. Eventually you work through the dark portal and into the orcs' homeland. You take charge of either side as you work through more than 20 missions per side in the fight for survival.

New features for the console release include an auto-build option, where you can set a queue of units to be produced, and the ability to select sixteen units at a time instead of the PC's nine.

This run by Flip plays through the Humans' Tides of Darkness campaign.

- Heavy luck manipulation
- Genre: Puzzle
- Genre: Strategy
Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories is a card based video game. The rules are one of the simplified prototypes made while developing the trading card game from the manga. The player controls Yugi, who pieces together the millenium puzzle, travels to ancient Egypt, and defeats evil.

In this run, Hoandjzj uses Fusion to overpower the enemies and luck manipulation to get better cards and avoid some of the most challenging cards of the oppenents. The chances for manipulation are limited and often take the form of attacking first with a weak monster before using a monster that could have one-hit-kill the opponent. The first battle can't be won, so it becomes a race to lose quickly.

Please read the welcome page if you haven't already done so. It explains the rules and methods that apply to all of these movies, particularly the use of savestates and frame advance. Also refer to our Glossary to understand terms we use, such as TAS or other unfamiliar terms.
