| Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is a vibrant, colorful and fun game that stars the popular Yoshi. From a technical standpoint, the game is very exceptional on the SNES due to its use of the SuperFX² coprocessor. The chip allows for many cool special effects that are otherwise impossible on the SNES. This is a 100% completion of the game. It plays through all the levels and collects every item that contributes to end-of-level score: 5 flowers, 20 red coins, and 30 stars. By getting 100% completion in each stage, six extra stages are also unlocked. These are played at the end of the run, again with 100% scores. The authors of the run have spent over three years working on this run, showing off plenty of egg juggling, precise shots, and other incredible antics. This run does not use certain glitches present in the other runs of the game (an any% run and a warp glitch run), but there should still be plenty to surprise you. Reading the authors' lengthy comments is recommended. | ||

| Acknowledged as one of the best Mario games of all time, Super Mario World is a must see for fans of classic games. This run completes the game fully (all 96 exits) and makes use of almost every known glitch to make it as fast and exciting as possible. This TAS by bahamete, Kaizoman666 & Masterjun is an improvement of 6:44.63 minutes over the previous movie. The improvement comes from new glitches and better optimization. | Backwards Long Jump (BLJ) is a game breaking glitch not used in this Super Mario 64 run so that the runners can show off a variety of other lesser known glitches. | In a shocking twist of events, Bowser kidnaps Peach inside her own castle. Mario shows up and rains on Bowser's parade by collecting all 120 stars and winning in record time. Numerous bugs are exploited in order to speed up Mario's progress and the physics engine is abused to its fullest. This is an improvement of 18:08.33 over the previous movie by Rikku. | Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) was the game that introduced super dash attack. The ability, referred to as spin dash in later games, has become one of the most beloved features of the series—and, indeed, one of the most prominent features of the speedrunning scene as a whole. In this exhilarating movie, Aglar speeds his way through the classic's varied levels making good use of spin dashes to break old routes and create new ones however he pleases. The author also controls Tails—Sonic's two-tailed foxy buddy—to allow for even faster routes and making shorter work of bosses. This is an improvement of 50.76 seconds over the previous movie, thanks to better routes and general optimization as explained in the author's comments. | ||

| On this site, we make perfect movies, and then we surpass them. Of course, if we can surpass them, they were not perfect in the first place, but who would have known? When "perfection" is defined as "as fast as possible", it requires some sacrifices. Indeed, this movie sacrifices a lot in the playability of the game. Full of tricks to pass through walls, tricks to avoid mandatory battles, tricks to pass through enemies relatively unharmed, tricks to acquire weapon refills in little time — there is very little in this movie left that resembles normal playing. Even death is used as a viable playing strategy that saves time. All of the tricks are still performed by the means of mere controller input, even though significant portions of the input were calculated by a computer program. This movie is a considerable improvement of 3:04.39 to the previous movie; this is mainly due to a new technique which tricks the game into calling an 'end of level' object. Of course, upon watching this movie, one does have to question something... is it Mega Man saving the world? Or Dr. Wily trying to save it from absolute destruction? | ||

| In the direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link is back to being a lone boy without a fairy. One day, he is attacked by Skull Kid and his two fairies, Tatl and Tael, and they steal his ocarina. After pursuing Skull Kid, he is transformed into a Deku Scrub. Link continues pursuing Skull Kid all the way to the Clock Town (now with the help of Tatl the fairy, a more 'in yo face' version of Navi). This TAS of the game is the result of three years of hard work and many restarts due to new discoveries. It features many never-before-seen tricks and glitches, and completes every dungeon without getting a single boss key. Everything is done out of order, in ways that will amaze the viewer and keep them on the edge of their seat the entire way through, including a whole new way of warping between the areas in the game's over-world, and a new method of traveling that makes even the longest stretches in the game seem tiny. The author beats the game in two 3-day cycles (the previous route used three), and does so in a way that puts every past attempt at a 6-day challenge to shame. Note: There are encodes of higher resolutions in the discussion thread. Also, if you know the cutscenes of this game by memory at this point and would rather watch an encode without them, it's your lucky day. | ||

| Super Metroid is a very well-known game in the world of TASing, and there have been many speedruns of this game published here at TASVideos over the years. This run demonstrates one of the hardest categories of speedrun possible for the game, Reverse Boss Order. In this category, Samus kills the four main bosses backwards from the game's intended order. This category is especially difficult, since Samus does not receive her extra suits until quite late in the run. As a result, most of the gameplay in Norfair is a desperate race against the clock as Samus's health decreases constantly in the heated areas. Needless to say, every single energy tank matters much more than it ever would in a normal run. Also, water areas in Maridia are quite difficult to navigate quickly without the Gravity Suit. This run, by Saturn, improves on the previous movie by 1:24.26 due to a number of new tricks and strategies. See the submission notes for more details. | ||

| Donkey Kong's been kidnapped and old Cranky Kong insists that Diddy collect a bunch of coins that say "DK" on them. These goals are sufficiently compatible that Diddy and Dixie decide to get a little bit sidetracked on their rescue plan. | At first there were 70 stars because Bowser demanded it. Then there were 16 stars because MIPS the rabbit demanded it. Then there was 1 star because Bowser's Sub demanded it. Now there are none because the viewers are impatient and demanded the game be quicker. As with many other runs on this site, the goal of pure speed has resulted in the complete breaking of the game. Very little of the game's normal play remains. If you'd like to see more of what Super Mario 64 has to offer, see the "70 Stars, no BLJ" run or the "120 Stars" run. | This run of Bomberman 64 (on the Japanese version) achieves 100% status, which means earning 120 gold cards and all custom parts (alternate costumes for multiplayer modes). To acquire the prime "gold parts", players must obtain 120 gold cards within three hours in in-game time in hard mode. Some cards require killing a certain minimum number of enemies, so you'll also get to see Bomberman blow up lots of enemies.
Watch zvsp blast through the stages and collect the cards very quickly. Many bomb-stacking glitches are used to skip areas. Also, the player dies on purpose several times, for deathwarps and as shortcuts for some cards in hazardous conditions.

| Everyone who has at least once attempted to gather a soul from each of the 120 different enemies in Aria of Sorrow, especially during a speedrun, knows the frustration it incurs after a hundredth failed attempt to get the required drop. That just makes this all-souls TAS, in which the player beats the game on hard mode and without using glitch warps in a little less than 25 minutes, even more impressive.
Upon completing his warpless run, Kriole decided to take another jab at this category, improving upon his earlier effort by 51 seconds.
However, if you would like to see the game beaten to a pulp in a mere quarter of this time, don't miss the glitched run by klmz.
Note: While the player doesn't use glitch warps (neither by death nor by getting out-of-bounds using transform souls), he uses the normal warp rooms present in the castle. Note: Starting from reset was necessary to use hard mode. However, doing so is normally not allowed — refer to the rules to see the reasons.

| The second Castlevania title released on Nintendo DS after Dawn of Sorrow, this game is a direct sequel to Bloodlines on Sega Genesis. Dracula rises from the dead yet again (cue groan), and it's up to Jonathan Morris, helped out by Charlotte Aulin, a powerful mage student, to defeat him. | Rockman & Forte (ロックマン&フォルテ), known as Mega Man & Bass in the western world, used to be the last game in the original Rockman/Mega Man series, until Rockman & Forte Mirai kara no Chōsensha (ロックマン&フォルテ 未来からの挑戦者) was released for the WonderSwan. This time around, Dr. Wily has his own creation turned against him, allowing the player to use Mega Man or a bad guy! However, in this run, the players only use Mega Man and collect each and every CD in the game, which shouldn't be possible using only one character. Then again, many things happen in this movie that weren't intended to be possible. This run is a collaboration between sparky, the current author of the other branches for this game, parrot14green, the author of the previous "100 CDs" run, and woabcfl, the author of the Rockman no Constancy runs. | Although the length of this movie is 21:50.6 when timed with our standard method, applying the timing method used by most Zelda speedrunners (until last hit on Ganon) would result in a final time of 18:46.85. It's important to note this so that there's no confusion about which runs are faster than the others. In this TAS of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the author aims to beat the game as quickly as possible. He achieves this by exploiting a large sequence break which involves "tricking" the game into warping Link directly from the Deku Tree (the first dungeon) to Ganon's Castle. Child Link then goes on conquering the whole Castle without a single thought about becoming an Adult beforehand. Despite how quickly this game can be beaten these days, this run is almost one minute faster than its predecessor thanks to a new trick at the Tower Collapse Sequence and many small improvements throughout the run. This TAS was done using the Japanese version of the game. The reason for this is that the text is significantly faster than in the English version, which means that far less time is spent waiting for text boxes and cut scenes to end before getting back to the action. The author's notes explain in great detail many of the things done in this TAS, which may be confusing to those who aren't familiar with Ocarina of Time speedrunning. Reading them is strongly advised. Note: There are encodes of higher resolutions in the discussion thread. | ||

One thing leads to another and he and the rest of his party eventually find themselves fighting the root of all evil. No reason to rush things though, right? In addition to completing all sidequests, the author also uncovers every single reference to Phantasy Star I and II in the game. An exhaustive list of these is found in the author's comments.

| Disappointed with good movies where characters move just too slowly? Look no further! In this extremely high-speed run, Mukki demonstrates how to break the sound barrier and why Sonic is the fastest character in the video game universe. Mukki's TAS improves the previous run by 43.18 seconds. Individual act improvements are listed in the submission text. | The TASVideos record movie for Pokémon: Yellow Version is a glitchfest that has Ash cataloging every Pokémon in slightly over a minute. Is there any way to get more ridiculous than that? Using nothing but the Game Boy controller and tool-assisted precision, the game is made to run an arbitrary program. See the author's comments for the technical details. This movie improves upon its predecessor by never having to leave Ash's room to gain full control of execution flow. However, the predecessor has a very different kind of payload at the end. Be sure to see the last minute of the previous movie as well. This movie was submitted on March 14 - "Pi Day", and contains many many references to π. See how many you can find. Basically, FractalFusion in this run applies the idea that TASing is programming input rather than playing the game. To see more examples of that, be guided by this post. | ||

This game bears a striking resemblance to Mega Man 8, not only in style, but in excessive graphic detail. Similarly to Mega Man X4, the player has the option to choose one of two characters to play through. In this run, Rockman is choosen. This run is 41.64 seconds faster than the previous run, demonstrating that this game is even glitchier than it originally appeared. | After a major surgery, Samus's Power Suit has been reduced in appearance. To compensate, she decides to arm herself to the teeth with 250 missiles and more power bombs than she really needs. It's her favorite thing to do when sequence breaking isn't as feasible.
BioSpark collects all 100 capacity increasing items for Samus's health, missiles and power bombs. The abilities recovered from the Core-X are not part of this number.
Like in previous Metroid Fusion TASes, lowest in-game time is top priority, sacrificing some minor tricks that save real-time but would have made in-game time slightly higher.
In-game completion time is 55:28, 48 in-game seconds faster than the previous run. The real-time improvement is 30.23 seconds. It appears smaller due to 1 in-game second actually being 1.06 real-time seconds in this game.

| Ludicrous-speed bouncing around. Completed without collecting any emeralds, with both Sonic and Tails controlled by the player.
This run takes everything you know about Sonic 3 & Knuckles and turns it upside-down. It extensively uses the "scroll objects offscreen to pass through them" trick to zip and warp to places that shouldn't be reached, break bosses, and effectively skip entire stages.
It is worth noting that nitsuja and Upthorn did not directly participate in the creation of this movie; instead, marzojr incorporated several additional tricks in several stages and spliced them in for a total improvement of 2:14.31 seconds over his last effort at doing the same.
The second youtube link provides the camhacked HD encode, which always tries to keep Sonic onscreen, and has sprites on top of the backgriund, to improve visibility over the original TAS look. Camhacked SD downloadables are also available in the Archive collection.

| Perfection is good. You're not satisfied with beating the game in real time, so you invent software tools to play it frame by frame. You optimize your run to death over several years, finding glitches that let you skip right to the end, but it's not enough. You make an emulator that's so precise its runs sync on the console. You make a hardware tool to feed them to an actual SNES and use it to play your movie back on one. Now we expect a public presentation of the SNESBot at an event like AwesomeGamesDoneQuick someday. Because what else can follow on this level of perfection? This glitched run is 56.50 seconds faster than Masterjun's previous movie. For those who love to read the technical specifics of such runs, there are detailed author's comments about the new method used here. Suffice to say that 8 controllers are required to get this to work. If you want to see more movies like this, let this post be your guide. | ||

| Although newcomers to TASVideos's player list, Taco and Kriole are both experienced TASers in regards to Super Metroid, this time having teamed up in a mission to perfect one of the most contested games in the site's history. Using a new route and taking advantage of several techniques, never demonstrated before in other Super Metroid runs outside of waiting areas, they made short work of Mother Brain and her space pirates. | The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is a Game Boy Color game that carries over much of the graphics from Link's Awakening. Surprisingly, much of the game engine is completely different and developed by Capcom. In it, the Oracle of Seasons, Din, is kidnapped by Onox, General of Darkness. Link must travel throughout both Holdrum and Subrosia to collect the 8 Essences of Nature, power up the Rod of Seasons, and defeat Onox. This game has been attempted by various authors over the past 5 years. Finally, SwordlessLink, along with Tompa, who joined the project after dungeon 4, beat this legendary game in 1:25:57.21 primarily through the use of pitwalking, Pegasus Seeds, and enemy manipulation. | Full completion of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Both this run and the short version use a wobbling trick in order to make Link walk a bit faster. The execution of this maneuver requires the usage of a controller that allows the player to press Up+Down simultaneously (such as, in this case, a modified Snes9x's controller). Kaizo Mario (友人マリオ Yūjin Mario) is a Nicovideo phenomenon born from a person's desire to make his friend play his super-hard Mario hack, and post the results on Nicovideo. By chance, this hack made its fame on Youtube when a team of Let's Play gamers obtained the hack and recorded video of them playing it. The most well-known Youtube video in this series is the first part of ProtonJonSA's attempt of Special Stage 2 and his subsequent nervous breakdown.
Kaizo Mario World 3 (友人マリオ3 Yūjin Mario 3) is the third installment of the Kaizo Mario series. In addition to the video's popularity, the hack is well-done in comparison to the previous two.

| The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX is an updated version of an older GB game to add colour graphics, an additional dungeon, various other minor features, and a lot of bug fixes. Link, after rescuing Hyrule (again?), sets off on a journey and subsequently shipwrecks on the mysterious Koholint Island, which has been overtaken by evil monsters which he must defeat in order to find a way back home. Through a wide variety of glitches and general optimisations, this is now almost ten minutes faster than the previous full run of this game. This run does not make use of a form of warp glitching, but still demonstrates that they obviously didn't fix as many bugs as they thought. | ||

Samus Aran, a bounty hunter, returns to the planet of Zebes, in order to explore its depths, and defeat Mother Brain and the Space Pirates. | In this TAS of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the author aims to beat the game as quickly as possible while completing all dungeons, temples, and Ganon Trials. This goal is commonly referred to as "all temples", "all dungeons", or "MST (Medallions/Stones/Trials)". This run has roughly 35 minutes of improvements in gameplay over the previous TAS of its kind. This movie contains several new glitches and sequence breaks which allow for a much faster completion than were possible when the last run was made. Several large glitches in the game are not used in the run, such as those which allow the player to manipulate memory addresses to obtain items without physically picking them up. These are avoided because it would make the completion of any dungeon completely arbitrary; they can be seen in an old any% run. Unlike the previous movie of this category, this TAS is played on the Japanese version of the game. The reason for this is that the text is significantly faster than in the English version, which means that far less time (roughly 12 minutes) is spent waiting for text boxes and cut scenes to end before getting back to the action. English subtitles were added to the encode for people interested in what was said. The author's notes explain in great detail many of the things done in this TAS which may be confusing to those who aren't familiar with Ocarina of Time speedrunning. Reading them is strongly advised. | In the latest in silly ideas turned into inspirations for our ever-dedicated TASers, this movie takes one controller and wires it into three SNES emulators at once; the same input is used to play 3 games simultaneously with one controller. There are also animations constructed with spare controllers during this movie. If you like this movie, there are other movies that beat four games with one controller! Note: There might be a visual anomaly during the battle with Serges in X 2. This TAS completes the 6 tracks of the Jack Cup in time trial mode, where you choose any track to drive solo aiming for fastest possible completion of 3 laps according to the in-game timer, accurate to the millisecond. A special input sequence is used to unlock all cars (you normally unlock cars by playing in grand prix mode). This TAS improves the "cup-time" by 19.088 seconds over the awe-inspiring unassisted world records. In addition, each track beats all known individual-track TAS's - specifically those by Jimmy K Thai (JKT), a ground-breaking player and long-time world champ.

| Family Feud (1993) follows the premise of the American TV show of the same name. Two families are pitted against each other in a contest aimed at guessing the results of a public survey. In the first two rounds, the first family member to press a button and give a concise answer that happens to be on the survey earns points. After that, this family can continue guessing answers on the survey, with control switching to the other family on incorrect guesses. After two rounds, the family with fewer points is disqualified, and the last round allows two members of the remaining family to list several of the existing survey answers in a very short time period. Heisanevilgenius's family, The As, ignores all that and goes with elaborate and utter nonsense instead… only to find the host accepting their answers as correct. The other family, The Halls, doesn't even get the chance to insert a word, proving the racial prejudice of the host. Watch the game and see for yourself. If you liked how the machine's text recognition system got abused in this movie, you must also check the troubles TAS brings the drawing recognition system into. Note: Some answers contain coarse language. | ||

| A short Japanese game about a small green creature who can summon stars to help him defeat monsters and to use them as platforms to reach high places and travel fast. In this movie, the authors aim to collect all the items to enter the secret 7th level after the boss at the end of the 6th level. They improve the previous movie by 2 minutes and 15 seconds. The game cartridge of Gimmick! contains a special microchip, FME7, which extends the number of sound channels in the game from 5 to 8, creating a more melodic soundtrack than in most other NES games. | Sonic bounces around surprisingly fast. The lack of Spin Dash makes the strategy a bit different from that of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles runs, since preserving your momentum becomes a lot more important. However, this doesn't prevent the authors from achieving crazy velocities even with such a significant limitation. In this run, the game is completed without collecting any emeralds. | EarthBound is a great RPG, designed by Shigesato Itoi in 1994-1995, and is also known by the name Mother 2. It is best described as "random", in a good way. The game has a great emphasis on a humor, and indeed many things in the game are almost caricatured, from subplots to characters. It also has a versatile soundtrack. Our description for the previous movie stated, "Although this being a speedrun (tool-assisted at that), most of the plot of the game is intact...". This time around, not so much. Thanks to some collision detection bugs, including one that shows that the Skip Sandwich is a fitting name for the item in ways the developers never intended, the author is able to move around the game's areas freely, completing the bare minimum number of tasks needed to keep the final battle from locking up. Also unlike the previous movie, this one does use a death as a shortcut. However, the teddy bear survives this time around. | ||

| Crystalis is an awesome action rpg by SNK. What little plot there is involves the world ending on October 1, 1997. Naturally, after that the world became full of mutants and monsters. Technology regresses and people can use magic. There is an evil empire trying to revive the ancient technology, specifically the obligatory tower floating in the sky. The hero pops out of some sort of stasis chamber and proceeds to topple the empire and take down the tower with the help of some wise men and a friendly dolphin. There's a heroine named Mesia, but she only shows up a few times, most of which are skipped in this run.
This beats the previous run by almost 12 minutes. As with that run, the second-controller cheats are off-limits (the fm2 only has data for controller 1). Other than that, no holds are barred. Many new glitches are used. For a complete list, see the game resources page. Movement is faster by abusing the no-subpixel engine. Much effort went into lag reduction, especially in certain areas. However, the vast majority of the time savings is due to better experience management.
We recommend watching the movie on an emulator and using the author's LUA script. There's quite a bit of useful information.

| Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is a vibrant, colorful and fun game that stars the popular Yoshi. From a technical standpoint, the game is very exceptional on the SNES due to its use of the SuperFX chip. The chip allows for many cool special effects that are otherwise impossible on the SNES. This run is an improvement of over 5 minutes to the previous speedrun of this game. For more details, we recommend reading the author's comments; there's a lot more to this movie than meets the eye, even though the movie is very colourful, action-packed, and full of entertaining tricks and maneuvers. | Gimmick! (1992) is another gem from Sunsoft, the company that brought us Ufouria and Journey to Silius. It was only released in Japan and Scandinavian countries, but eventually achieved somewhat of a cult status thanks to its refined gameplay, as well as exceptional music and graphic design. The plot follows a green toy on a quest to rescue a little girl from the clutch of other toys, who were rightfully upset at her forsaking them in favor of our protagonist. What these other toys can't do, however, is conjure stars to use them both as projectiles and very effective transportation devices! This joint venture between Aglar and Hotarubi improves the previous movie by nearly a whole minute thanks to a lot of new and refined tricks and shortcuts. They don't collect the special items required to access the 7th level, and thus get a bad ending. However, we have a "best ending" run as well just for your viewing pleasure! | ||

| Metal Slug X (2001) is a remixed version of Metal Slug 2, the second installment of an immensely popular run'n'gun series released on the Neo Geo MVS. The games are notable for incredibly detailed pixel graphics, fluid animation, and good humor; but the real key to their longevity is, of course, their high difficulty as far as survival goes.
This is x2poet's 16.42 seconds improvement over the previous movie, despite now using the hardest difficulty setting. One notable improvement is the use of both players, compared to one in the obsoleted run.

This is the second "100%" run of this game. agwawaf speeds through the game very rapidly, collecting all heart tanks, subtanks, Ride Armor modules, upgrades and finally the Golden Armor. However, Zero is kept alive and his Z-Saber is not obtained, so the author could get the best ending. | Originally thought to be an April Fools joke, it turns out that Capcom really did hide a one-hit-kills weapon in Mega Man X. That platform in Armored Armadillo's stage always did seem a little strange. Unlike the later games, collecting the Hadoken is much more time consuming compared to the ability to obliterate the mandatory Reploid rematches and fortress bosses. | In X-Men 2: Clone Wars, the alien race Phalanx invades the earth and the X-Men and some X-Women try to stop them. You get to choose which X-Man to play every stage as. Most of the time Nightcrawler is used because he has the highest movement speed. Second in command is Wolverine because he has the second highest speed and also deals a ton of damage. The game is unique in the regard that it starts as soon as you power on your console. No SEGA logo, no title screen, no character select. Normally the game pseudorandomly gives you Beast, but changing the types of controllers (3- or 6-button) throws off the start-up timing enough that a faster character can be gotten. | Mega Man X2 makes a particularly interesting run as there are many weapons that can be used to increase mobility. These include a grappling hook, a fast mid-air dash and a weapon that can transform enemies into platforms. The authors take special care to ensure that when there is a situation in which a weapon could help them progress quicker, they make use of it. This run improves the previous version by about 23 seconds of game-time. The previous run used the Japanese ROM, and the shorter cutscenes in that version make the improvement less apparent. This movie aims for the fastest time possible. However, because the shōryūken (flame uppercut) used towards the end of the movie saves so much time, and because to get it the authors must first collect 100% of items such as Heart Tanks, Sub Tanks, and Item Capsules, this movie could be seen as a 100% run. Zero Parts are not required for the shōryūken, and thus they are not collected. If you would like to watch this game played collecting Zero's parts, but not collecting any of X's, see this run. | There are many hacks for Super Mario World, made with Lunar Magic, but few of them offer a whole new pleasurable game. The Second Reality Project is notable for being the first hack not made by the author of Lunar Magic that is still considered to be a decent game. The game spawned an Award-Winning series of hacks known for pushing Super Mario World to its limits, pulling in features from other games, and still adding on a few things of its own. This hack, The Second Reality Project Reloaded, is a remake of the original hack with all new graphics, custom music, and other great additions to help set the game apart. This hack can be regarded as a true sequel to Super Mario World, picking up where it left off. Bowser has hatched a plan to rebuild his airships from Super Mario Bros. 3, and brings along his kids for support, hoping to use his newfound power and henchmen in the "Second Reality" to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom once and for all. Mario (and Luigi) must travel to the strange new Second Reality and face foes and puzzles they've never seen before. The game contains 8 classic worlds, as per the standard in previous games, as well as a special Bowser World, a Sonic World used as a short cut system similar to the Star World from Super Mario World, and one other... In this run, bahamete abuses the game early on to quickly gain a feather prior to the game officially featuring it, leading to early entry to the Sonic World accessible from the various Koopa Castles. Whereas normal players on average need a good two hours to beat this game, thanks to plenty of flying, and a massive amount of glitching, bahamete beats this game in a mere 34:40.18 minutes. For a very nice welcomed twist, this run does not feature the usual Bowser Copter fight you've come to expect in Super Mario World and its hacks. Rather, we get to see Mario blaze through one of the longest levels ever to be featured in a Mario game, and ends with a fight reminiscent of an old NES classic.

| This movie features a perfect example of what can occur when TASers will go to any extreme to sequence break a long game. Very little that is recognizable remains. Cpadolf forgoes key items, yet bothers to collect the X-Ray scope, an item normally useless to an experienced Super Metroid player.
With the use of X-Ray Scope to get out of the rooms' bounds, some non-trivial physics abuse, and esoteric RAM data manipulation via dying in a certain room, the amount of tasks Samus usually has to do on Zebes has been cut to almost nothing. No boss is ever fought in this TAS, and even Mother Brain is skipped completely. The in-game completion time is 00:12. Only 6% of the items are collected.
This is an improvement of 10.44 seconds real-time, or 2.38 seconds in-game, over the previous glitched any% run.
The peculiar effects of the Space/Time Beam, if properly utilized, can cut this run's time further in half. The movie will have to begin from a savestate, but Samus will start the game fully powered-up, so item collection and all detours associated with it are no longer required. Such a movie, also made by Cpadolf, can be found here; its completion time is 12:46 (00:06 by the in-game timer).

Secret of Mana is a widely popular action RPG published by Square. It is internationally regarded as the first game of the Mana series, but the Japanese title is “Seiken Densetsu 2”, so it is the sequel of “Final Fantasy Adventure”. It utilizes real-time battles like many other action RPGs, but there are many features peculiar to this game, such as the “Ring Command” or multiplayer action.
Touch-me beats the game very quickly, using three players simultaneously and a whole host of glitches. For instance, many bosses can be hit for 999 instant damage using a charge counter glitch, and certain plot points are skipped. See the submission comments for more details.

| The original Castlevania is set in the year 1691. Simon Belmont must fight his way through the castle and destroy Count Dracula. This TAS is about 13.6 seconds faster than the previous version by the coauthor of this movie, Morrison. In this joint effort by Phil and Morrison, thorough optimizations are carried out at all levels of magnitude in order to get the maximum completion speed as well as lots of score points in the process. The MSX version has been TASed as well! Click here to watch it. There is also a run of this game which destroys as little as possible. | ||

From the opposite side of the usual formula of breaking a game to reach the credits as fast as possible, Saturn finishes Chrono Trigger in a single pass while trying to get as much done as possible without glitching the game out. Consequently this video actually looks like an otherwise normal playthrough by an extremely skilled player.

| The main quest completion time has been shortened to nearly one fourth of what it initially was, thanks to the discovery of a glitch that allows Juste to sink into walls. This is a 3:25.15 minute improvement over klmz's movie. Like in the previous movies, the author picked up an item to display those cool CRITICAL's for entertainment, at the cost of some time. | Capcom decided to make some easy money, so they recycled parts of Mega Man X5, threw in overly difficult trial-and-error gameplay, made almost everything an obstacle course, and called it Mega Man X6. Rescuing all Reploids on Xtreme mode is inadvisable for all but the most hardcore. Yet this TAS makes it look easy. Not only that, it collects everything that is to be collected before beating the game. In this run, Rolanmen1 uses additional items and tricks that are not present in the any% or all stages runs, such as X's Blade Armor. | This movie aims for the fastest possible time to get a score of 999999 in this game. A surprising 17.53 seconds have been shaved off the previous movie through the discovery of a new glitch.
It warps directly to the 18th level and fills half of the field quickly to be able to operate short distances in the top part of the field. From there on, it only gets tetrises (4-line clearings) until the score is maxed out.
A glitch involving pressing several directional buttons at once is used to manipulate luck for the next pieces. Flickering of the next piece block and piece in play results. Of course, the fun doesn't stop there, the L blocks also have their say in getting tetrises.
For the record, this is the fastest speed the NES game is capable of. For more extreme Tetris fun, please see movies

| This movie of Sonic Advance is unique as a speedrun in one aspect: Sonic moves so fast that the "camera" of the game cannot even
follow him. Therefore, he is rarely seen in the movie.
On the rare occasions we get to watch Sonic, we get to enjoy seeing him
moving through walls, charging up for another dash, or making short work of bosses.
Besides the super fast speed itself, the speed also provides Sonic an ability
(glitch) to pass through platforms and walls under certain conditions.
Mukki's TAS improves the previous run by 30.94 seconds, thanks to new routes and glitches explained in his comments.
Note: There are two encodes available for download; the first one is the original version, and the second one is a comparison encode: you can see the original version to the left, and what you see to the right is something made with a special emulator, hacked to force the game's camera to focus on Sonic, making it much easier to follow what Mukki is doing with him. The second YouTube stream displays these views side-by-side as well.

| The games Super Mario Bros. 1, 2j, 2, and 3 are the same. Mario just moves right all the time while taking some warps along the way. If you don't believe that's true, we offer this movie. The author here proves that Nintendo has been making the same game over and over again by playing all four Super Mario Bros. games with the same input. While the main focus is to complete Super Mario Bros. 3 as fast as possible, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels and Super Mario Bros. 2 were completed around the same time as Super Mario Bros. 3. Super Mario Bros. 1 finished quite a bit earlier, on the other hand. If you like this movie, you may like to check out other movies in which multiple games are played simultaneously with one controller. | ||

| The Legend of Zelda (ゼルダの伝説) is an adventure game that needs no introduction to most NES players. It is a large game that normally takes days to beat, but at TASVideos, we often reduce games to the minimum necessary in order to complete them. This is the fifth The Legend of Zelda TAS at this site (not counting the alternate movies), and is ~85 seconds faster than the previous movie, largely due to better optimization and manipulation of item drops. | ||

| Since moving to the SNES 16-bit land, Mega Man has taken the secret identity X, but everyone knows it's still him because he's the only blue robot who shoots three pellets at a time at other robots and steals their weapons. FractalFusion takes the game apart with a new route, new strategies, nasty bugs and more optimal movements. For extra curiosity, there is a page "Mega Man X Tricks" that explains some of the tricks that are and/or can be used in the X series games. | The eighth entry in the Mega Man series is very similar to the preceding games, especially its direct predecessor (in light of being the second entry in the franchise released for the PSX, the first being a port of X3). Once again, Mega Man takes on eight Robot Masters and goes on to raid Wily's fortress as usual. If you're here for the plot, though, you're missing the point - instead enjoy the impossibly fast action and nifty glitch abuse in this run of the longest presently-TASable game in the main series to date. | In this run, adelikat picks up maximum speed upgrades and has fun with perfect reflexes, much like the previous movie. That is certainly something nice to do, because the game scrolls automatically and the player cannot affect the speed. However, the point of this movie is not just to beat this game as fast as possible, but rather to do all kinds of unpredictable and awe-inspiring things rarely seen in any TAS — without losing time. See for yourself. This is probably one of the best illustrations on how to create art out of a simplistic and otherwise uninteresting game to watch. What is also different about this movie is an extra warp which significantly shortens the game, and the use of a new tool (input macro) as described in the submission text. Bots are occasionally used to generate pseudorandom input while still avoiding death. Also be sure to check out this movie being played back on an actual NES. | ||

| This is the any% TAS of Donkey Kong Country 2. The movie aims for overall fastest completion and doesn't give a flying banana about bonus rooms. Warp barrels are used whenever possible, meaning a large part of almost every stage in the first two worlds is skipped. This is an improvement of 1:38.04 over the previous movie due to some new tricks and major warping glitches exclusive to ROM version V1.1 (the previous run uses V1.0). | NINJA外伝2 — The Dark Sword of Chaos, now completed about 4 seconds faster than the previous version by the same author, due to lots of small optimizations throughout every level.
The shadow clones are a unique gameplay element not seen elsewhere in the series, but in this movie they are used mainly to make extremely short work of bosses and entertain the viewer immediately afterwards.
The game has a rich plot with lots of cutscenes. Because of this, the author has also supplied the "story" version of the movie, which exhibits the same gameplay but includes all the cutscenes skipped by pressing start (which sum up to about 3/4 of the entire movie). It can be obtained here.
A good sense of humor is strongly advised to note the irony present in some of the later dialogues between characters.

| Mischief Makers (1997) is one of the rare 2D sidescrollers released for Nintendo 64. The player controls Marina, the robotic maid of a lecherous and absent-minded professor Theo, who has a habit of being kidnapped constantly. The ones who abduct him every now and then are Clancers from the evil Empire. (And make sure to watch out for the plot twist at the end!) Marina is quite a versatile cyborg. She can boost continuously in the air, ride vehicles, slide and jump like a maniac, and most importantly, shake. Make no mistake, you'll be seeing Comicalflop shake this thing, and even that thing quite a lot in this fast-paced run. The game is broken down into 52 short areas, each of them having a separate timer. Because of this, the author aims to optimize the movie for shortest in-game time. Each stage is given a rank based on how fast the stage was completed; this run gets all S Ranks. The game has some emulation errors, such as unnatural amounts of lag in some stages, and graphical glitches. See the author's comments for more details. | ||

The run uses a game restart sequence (Up+A on the second controller) to save time in backtracking. See Metroid Tricks for more information about the door glitch as well as other tips and tricks. Andy Dick has made a video which plays this run on top of the game map. This provides a unique perspective on the door warping glitches.

| Micro Machines 64 TURBO (released in 1999) is the Nintendo 64 remake of Micro Machines V3 (released in 1997) for the PlayStation and PC. It features the same clunky menu system and the same 43 primary courses and 31 unique vehicles (the PlayStation version also had a plodding training mode, "Cherry's Driving School" with five courses defined by cones and a unique training vehicle). The visuals have been slightly improved and a "turbo selection" speed control was added that allows players to choose faster, harder levels of speed. In this run, Weatherton speeds through one lap of all the courses. To do so, three different gameplay modes are necessary: Time Trial, Test Drive, and Party Play modes. Each track is played using the game's code to run at double speed, making the action even more frantic and impressive. | ||

| Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a story-driven fighting game that casts you in the shoes of Sub-Zero, and chronicles a series of events that occurred prior to Mortal Kombat 1. In a storyline that is reminiscent of Looking Glass's Thief, the Lin Kuei assassin/thief is sent to steal an important document; this mission proves to be a test from a mysterious character (which turns out to be MK4's Quan Chi) and who charges you upon retrieval of this object to recover an ancient medallion of untold power. However once you retrieve the medallion, Quan Chi reveals that he actually tricked you, and the medallion is the key to awakening the demonic Shinnok (yup, the same baddie from MK4). You must now become a reluctant hero, as you pursue Quan Chi trough hell itself hoping you get to Shinnok before him. Gameplay wise the game takes the Mortal Kombat familiar 2D fighting environment and turns it into a hybrid fighter/platformer game, where you must travel trough hazardous levels running and jumping around as well as fighting your way against both digitized and polygonal enemies. Sub-Zero's interface is the same as in every MK game, with the addition of a "use" and "turn around" buttons and additions such as an inventory, and a slight RPG twist in which you get exp. for defeating opponents, which translates into new techniques and moves to execute in the game. Technically speaking this game represents the final evolutionary step in the MK's series 2D engines. New features include zooming, 3D lighting as well as 3D backgrounds and characters, etc. | ||

| Alien Hominid is a 2D side-scrolling shooter with heavy references to the Metal Slug series of games - from the hand-drawn graphics, huge explosions, right down to the ability to eviscerate FBI Agents when you get up close to them. The graphics are by featured artist Dan Paladin. Your goal, is quite simply, to get to the end of the stage, and die as little as possible. Which is made difficult due to the fact that any bullet is an instant kill.
You control some sort of yellow alien with a gun. For whatever reason, he also has very Earth-like grenades with Earth-like explosions. He collides with some sort of satellite around Earth and crash-lands right in front of the FBI, who then runs off with his spacecraft and somehow forgets that bright yellow alien thing in clear sight. If you're looking for story, this isn't the game, as it just gives an excuse why you're doing these things.
This TAS improves the one provided by the winner team at Dream Team Contest 3 by 41.03 seconds.
