Arumana no Kiseki is an FDS-only platformer with an interesting grappling hook mechanic. Perhaps not surprisingly for a rather complicated mechanic like this one, it can be abused heavily to clip through walls and most of several levels.

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (Japanese title: Dracula II: Noroi no Fuuin (ドラキュラII 呪いの封印) is the story of Simon's horrible weekend without sleep. Two years after defeating Dracula, the hero is physically weakened by Dracula's curse. He must gather Dracula's remains and incinerate them at the ruins of Castlevania in order to end the curse.
Through a death warp only present in the FDS version, Fortranm and Burb defeat Dracula in record time. Please read the authors' comments for more details.

Eggerland is a predecessor of the NES Adventures of Lolo games, and in certain ways, it has much more features than Adventures of Lolo 1.
This movie abuses a couple of the game bugs in a surprising way.
Note that this is a Famicom Disk System game. Read What is FDS for more information.
Also note that this movie is about 42 seconds longer than the previous movie. This is due to the inaccurate (shorter) FDS load times emulated by Famtasia.

It stars a boy with extrasensory perception (ESP) who has been transported into a book and must save the world inside by rescuing a mayor's daughter and collecting two special items. In addition to his ESP powers, he can use projectile weapons on his quest.

Otocky was created by Toshio Iwai in 1987 and was only released in Japan for the Famicom Disk System. It is best described as a musical side-scrolling shoot 'em up where the primary weapon is a ball which, when fired in one of eight directions, plays different musical notes on the primary instrument quantized to the beat of the background music.
Needless to say, when such a weapon is put into the hands of a tool-assisted speedrunner, you might just find yourself humming along to the end result.

This game is Super Mario Bros., the original, but on the Famicom Disk System. It is much similar to the ROM version of the game, except for one minor difference that is demonstrated here.
The -1 stage is completely different. In the NES and Unisystem versions, the -1 stage repeats infinitely and cannot be completed, but in FDS, it can be completed, and then come -2 and -3.
The -3 stage in FDS is a castle level, and completing it ends the game, even though it says "princess is in another castle". The princess is not seen in the ending, but she is sighted twice in the -1 stage, as shown in this movie.
This movie is 84 frames faster than the previous one due to the use of a "cheap trick".

Considered too difficult and too similar to the original game, it was skipped over for localization in favor of making Doki Doki Panic into the actual Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES. This game would later be remade in Super Mario All-Stars as Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.

The Mysterious Murasame Castle, also known as its original Japanese release title Nazo no Murasamejou, is a Famicom Disk System game developed by Nintendo EAD and published in 1986, only two months after The Legend of Zelda which it bears some similarities to. The story takes place in Edo period Japan. The titular Murasame Castle is taken over by a mysterious alien creature, who extends its power to four other neighboring castles. The daimyō lords of each castle are each given an evil sphere of power, and they use this power to summon armies of ninja and monsters to terrorize the nearby villages. Shōgun Tokugawa Ietsuna sends out samurai apprentice Takamaru to investigate the castles, defeat each castle lord along the way, and stop the aliens.
J.Y and BakaLuLu defeats said alien creature and restores peace to the region in record time, saving 00:05.31 seconds from the previous movie in the process!

Viewers who have photosensitivity problems may want to avoid watching as there's a high amount of flashing visuals after defeating the final boss fight which can become uncomfortable to watch.

10-Yard Fight (10ヤードファイト) is a 1983 American football arcade game that was developed and published in Japan by Irem and published in the United States by Taito and in Europe by Electrocoin.
While the USA release plays just like real American football, the Japanese version, used in this run, has a completely different goal. This version is high score based; more like the arcade release. Score increases with progress down the field, touchdowns, kicked PATs, and remaining time on the clock when the touchdown is scored. Another major difference is no option to select difficulty at the beginning: the game moves through the 4 difficulties as its normal progression to the hardest level (Super Bowl).

In the NES version, you are apparently flying through some some sort of blocky environment fighting what the manual describes as "fire creatures" that come out when the nearby star shines bright enough that there can be no night. Your objective is to kill all of these fire creatures, specifically the level bosses, so you can bring back the night.

Even the worst video games ever made can make for a good TAS.
This movie speedily plays through "The Cheetahmen", game #52 of a compilation of horrid games called Action 52. While the game is pretty horrible in general, it has a rather catchy BGM.
EZGames69 and Samsara improve the previous movie by 44.76 seconds, thanks to better optimisation and using a warp in the 5th level to spawn the last boss early in a glitched up level.
There are also two published runs of the unreleased sequel, Cheetahmen II. One plays through all the levels, whilst the other starts from level 5 from power-on, due to abusing the fact that some games do not initialize their states before reading them.

Even the worst video games ever made can make for a good TAS.
The Cheetahmen is game #52 in Action 52, probably the most infamous multi-game cartridge released for the NES. The story goes that the "Action Gamemaster" (i.e. some guy) was playing his video game when three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle ripoffs pull him through the TV and into their world. They tell him that there are enemies in their world and then leave him behind to fight the enemies.
In this run, EZGames69 and Samsara decide not to use any warps that can skip large portions of each level. This includes the glitch in level 5 that can warp the player to a grey void that has a chance of spawning the final boss.

Thrusters is another space shooter featured in the infamous NES multicart known as Action 52. The name of this game comes from the fact that the spaceship you pilot has thrusters. According to the manual, the objective of the game is to use this spaceship to fend off an alien invasion consisting of oddly shaped alien ships.

Dragons of Flame is the sequel that was promised in the credits of the infamous AD&D: Heroes of the Lance. While the game was better received than its predecessor, it was still limited to a Famicom release on Nintendo systems.
The game follows the party from Heroes of the Lance after they recovered the discs of Mishakal, until they slay the 'Dragon Highlord of the North', Lord Verminaard. The gameplay can best be described as a poor man's version of Zelda II for the NES.

Armadillo (アルマジロ) is a game released only in Japan about the titular young cowboy from Texas, who is in love with Sheryl, the cutest girl of the state. However, an evil organization kidnaps his sweetheart. The matters become even more complicated when the famous Billy The Shell also embarks on a quest to save Sheryl. Will Armadillo be able to rescue the girl and to defeat his enemies?
The starting gameplay consists of moving Armadillo around an area map composed of squares. Some of them are empty, while others represent locations. Once you enter a location, you find yourself on a platform level, that often contains several sub-levels. There are sometimes branching ways on the area map, and you are not obliged to access all the locations to clear an area. On the platform levels, Armadillo can either walk and jump in his normal form (dies from single enemy hit), or turn into a ball, which is invulnerable to enemies' attacks, but is hard to control: the ball follows realistic physics, bounces of walls, and takes time to stop rolling.
