| In a shocking twist of events, Bowser kidnaps Peach inside her own castle. Mario shows up and rains on Bowser's parade by collecting all 120 stars and winning in record time. Numerous bugs are exploited in order to speed up Mario's progress and the physics engine is abused to its fullest. This is an improvement of 18:08.33 over the previous movie by Rikku. If you prefer to see the game beaten in the fastest time, then watch the "0 Stars" run. See this movie played back on a real console. | At first there were 70 stars because Bowser demanded it. Then there were 16 stars because MIPS the rabbit demanded it. Then there was 1 star because Bowser's Sub demanded it. Now there are none because the viewers are impatient and demanded the game be quicker. As with many other runs on this site, the goal of pure speed has resulted in the complete breaking of the game. Very little of the game's normal play remains. If you'd like to see more of what Super Mario 64 has to offer, see the "70 Stars, no BLJ" run or the "120 Stars" run. This movie is 47 frames faster than the previous movie due to new strategies and extreme optimization, explained in the submission text. Super Mario 64 has a history of publications on this site. If you wish to see how it unfolded since the beginning, see the page SM64TASHistory. Also, if you have a hankering to see MIPs the rabbit, the 16 stars route has been improved. | Backwards Long Jump (BLJ) is a game breaking glitch not used in this Super Mario 64 run so that the runners can show off a variety of other lesser known glitches. Despite BLJ being banned, Mario shows that he can still collect 70 stars with ninja-like reflexes. BLJ can be seen in the 0 Stars and 120 Stars runs. See this movie played back on a real console. This run is 12.61 seconds faster than the previous, thanks to a new glitch.

| In this run, adelikat picks up maximum speed upgrades and has fun with perfect reflexes, much like the previous movie. That is certainly something nice to do, because the game scrolls automatically and the player cannot affect the speed. However, the point of this movie is not just to beat this game as fast as possible, but rather to do all kinds of unpredictable and awe-inspiring things rarely seen in any TAS — without losing time. See for yourself. This is probably one of the best illustrations on how to create art out of a simplistic and otherwise uninteresting game to watch. What is also different about this movie is an extra warp which significantly shortens the game, and the use of a new tool (input macro) as described in the submission text. Bots are occasionally used to generate pseudorandom input while still avoiding death. Also be sure to check out this movie being played back on an actual NES. | ||

| Marble Madness is an isometric game similar in its style to Snake Rattle 'n Roll. The objective in these two games is quite different, though. In this game, the player must roll a marble from one point to another. This is, of course, not as easy as it sounds, and certainly not as easy as it looks in this movie. Aglar improved adelikat and Deign's movie by 5.10 seconds. A second encode is available using a camera hack to focus on the marble, which subtly alters the gameplay. | Super Mario Bros 2 is one of our most competed games. This movie is Aglar and Andrewg's improvement of 10.73 seconds over adelikat and Cardboard's attempt to perfect this route. This time, the authors found new glitches to get to the end faster. If you are wondering how some of the tricks in this video work, see the Super Mario Bros. 2 tricks page. | This is an improvement of 13.66 seconds over laughing_gas's princess-only run of Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka. Super Mario USA). The concept for this run originated long ago because Princess was the only character not used in the normal run aiming for fastest overall time. Since then, improvements have removed Mario from that run as well. (In fact, Princess is the only character not used in the fastest warpless run either.) This run played on a real NES | ||

| Ever since Morimoto published his legendary movie in mid-2003, the players at TASVideos have repeatedly made it faster and faster! Of course, there doesn't ever seem to be a stop for when it is fastest. This movie is 0.82 seconds faster than the previous movie. Most of the improvement comes from a trick that makes Bowser bounce much lower when defeated. For more details, see the run's comments. | This movie completes the B-mode of Tetris at level 19-5. Its goal is to clear all blocks from the screen upon the final line cleared (known as a "Bravo" in some games). And of course it aims to do this as fast as possible. Note: The author manipulates luck by pressing up+left+right to slow down the block's falling speed. This run played on a real NES | ||

| To the average player, Tetris is a fast-paced action/puzzle blend where reflexes become a huge factor as pieces pile up and speed increases dramatically. For one with perfect reflexes, however, it's no longer a challenge of 'where does the next piece go to make lines / avoid piling up?' so much as 'where can I put the next piece to make things look the most interesting?'. This run exemplifies that philosophy, exploiting the ability to manipulate the next piece that appears to the fullest in the service of creating a pattern which would be nigh impossible to duplicate in real world conditions. If you thought that TASing was only about speed, look no further than this example to prove otherwise. This run played on a real NES | ||

| This movie aims for the fastest possible time to get a score of 999999 in this game. A surprising 17.53 seconds have been shaved off the previous movie through the discovery of a new glitch.
It warps directly to the 18th level and fills half of the field quickly to be able to operate short distances in the top part of the field. From there on, it only gets tetrises (4-line clearings) until the score is maxed out.
A glitch involving pressing several directional buttons at once is used to manipulate luck for the next pieces. Flickering of the next piece block and piece in play results. Of course, the fun doesn't stop there, the L blocks also have their say in getting tetrises.
For the record, this is the fastest speed the NES game is capable of. For more extreme Tetris fun, please see movies

| The valiant knight Kuros, who has now grown eyeballs on the outside of his helmet, must again fight off the evil wizard Malkil. This task is accomplished mainly by finding an artifact in every level, giving it to a corresponding oversized animal to get into the level boss' lair, and promptly beating him up. | The third game in the Wizards & Warriors series. Having been tricked out of his victory in the previous game, Kuros once again returns to do battle on evil and pretend he will marry every princess he meets. There is some major sequence-breaking going on in this movie. Only 6 out of the 9 supposedly mandatory quests are cleared, meaning the author has to find original ways of passing obstacles he's not supposed to pass. The ending of this game is epilepsy-inducing. This particular movie is an updated version of the second TAS, with Malkil beaten with some magic not even the game programmers knew about. The first 17 minutes are identical to the previous version, and were played by Ferret Warlord. The Malkil battle was played by Dacicus. You can also see this run played on a real NES here. | ||

| The Lost Levels is a remake of the game released in Japan as Super Mario Bros 2. It introduces a number of new obstacles into the standard Super Mario Bros. formula, including poisonous mushrooms, wind, reverse warp zones, and of course many tricky jumps. It's difficult enough that Nintendo of America decided to completely re-theme a different game and release that as Super Mario Bros. 2 instead; The Lost Levels is the first time the Japanese sequel was released to the rest of the world.
This movie saves 4 frames over previous publication. All levels are played, including the secret world 9, and extremely difficult A through D worlds.

| Perfection is good. You're not satisfied with beating the game in real time, so you invent software tools to play it frame by frame. You optimize your run to death over several years, finding glitches that let you skip right to the end, but it's not enough. You make an emulator that's so precise its runs sync on the console. You make a hardware tool to feed them to an actual SNES and use it to play your movie back on one. Now we expect a public presentation of the SNESBot at an event like AwesomeGamesDoneQuick someday. Because what else can follow on this level of perfection? This glitched run is 56.50 seconds faster than Masterjun's previous movie. For those who love to read the technical specifics of such runs, there are detailed author's comments about the new method used here. Suffice to say that 8 controllers are required to get this to work. If you want to see more movies like this, let this post be your guide. | ||
