• Emulator used : Gens 11a
  • Aim for fastest completion
  • Manipulation of luck
  • Take damage to save time
This is already my 3rd submission of the game. Here are the major changes (for more in-depth explanations, look at the previous submission)
  • Juza : I had Gryz killed at the very beginning. 249 frames saved
  • Gy-Laguiah: I forwent the magical barrier. 341 frames saved
  • Zio : instead of healing Rune, I had him die (along with Rika) and Demi resurect them. Also, I tried fighting Zio with the Stun shot, and it's close to impossible to kill him with that. 130 frames saved
  • Chaos Sorcerer : I was unable to have Rika kill him at very first...
  • Dark Force I : I had Chaz die a little earlier. 55 frames saved
  • Xe-A-Thoul: Although they spammed giwat, I was able to keep Kyra alive long enough to create Blizzard. Also, I seem to have forgotten that giwat was stronger than gifoi... 260 frames saved
  • Lashiec : I used a Star-dew (found in the basement) to keep Rika from healing once. 160 frames saved
  • Dark Force II : I had Chaz die earlier. 121 frames saved
  • Dark Force III: I had Wren die too. 64 frames saved
  • De-Vars : I took advantage of Rika's two extra doubleslash to use them. 170 frames saved (however, it was more or less cancelled by Rika's healing of herself aftwerwards)
  • Saw-Lews : I had Chaz die earlier. 103 frames saved
  • Profund Darkness : I hit my last key 523 frames earlier by letting PD use Cancellation every 2nd round, giving me a 10 frames span of extra manipulation.
For this fight, I tried doing it with the Malay Dagger and the Shadow Sword. In the first case, it took 600 more frames just to get out fo the spaceport. And in the 2nd case, 120 damages (80 without shift) is just not enough.
Total saving : 2136 frames
Possible improvement : Have Zio use more of his laser hand; and Xe-La attack more, have more luck with Chaz against PD (I was able to do away without Deban, but Chaz' low accuracy kept me from using this trial)
Frame suggestion : 236 337, 236 748, 237 797, 238 081, 240 839 (all of them being the "crotch attack")

Mukki: Judging...
Mukki: Looks good. Accepting as an improvement to the currently published run.
OmnipotentEntity: Doin' me some publishing,

No one voted or commented yet? Ok, a 35 second improvement isn't going to be noticable on an hour and a half run. But it was a good reason to watch this game again. As always, Janus really knows his RPGs. Yes.

Having played this game to death, I am glad to see it continually being destroyed. Both this and the prior run have inspired me enough to finally register after lurking here for several years. Awesome job Janus!

well, I hope you TAS too, Jim!

thank whoever - I'M bad with names - questionned whether using the wave shot or not was a good idea. It's always good to receive feedback/suggestions while the run is progressing. Just wondering : how would people feel about a 100% run (sidequests, references to previous games)?

I would certainly watch a 100% run, although the publishability might be questionable.

I fear that a 100% run might look weird, especially when as you have to go to certain dungeons at certain fixed times (not only to optimize movements but also as some become unavailable when The Edge is attainable). Though I would love to watch such a run, I'm sure this feeling isn't shared. Anyway, going to watch this actual run already, always love a PS4 TAS.

my thoughts exactly. also it's funny how many people share the thought that they'd like to see a 100% run, but don't think other people share that desire.

I already voted Yes ... I'm not remembering perfectly the previous video right now, but ..... I think you were not bringing Demi to the last boss, you were leaving all five there .... if it was the case, did it save frames? =)

If I recall correctly, the only time-specific sidequests are The Ranch Owner (because everyone in Mile dies when The Edge opens) and Silver Soldier (because I don't know why.)

Yeah, I wanted to watch this earlier, but I've been on vacation and had less access to emulators. Thanks to antd's encode, though, I could check this out. And it was fun to watch, as was the last run. Yes vote. Also, I recommend a screenshot involving attacking the crotch of Dark Force III (like we suggested with the previous version). Otherwise, maybe it would be cool to have a picture of the attack on Dark Force III (or was it II?) that looks like it flattens him.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I would personally love to see a 100% version, although given the amount of debate on other games' 100% runs (Legend of Zelda in particular) I'm not sure it would fly with the judges . I would watch the hell out of it though esp. since PS IV is one of my favorite games. great job on the run as usual!

Seriously, a dialogue screenshot is not a good idea with this game. For both this run and the last run of this game, we've had suggestions involving Dark Force III. Could somebody get a screenshot from that boss?

Phantasy Star being my favourite serie, I will never thank you enough for having made a TAS of it. By the way, I am new, this video made me register after several years of watching from afar. if you want to use the following screen, feel free to use them (I created an account just for the sake of putting those pics) And here is an old pic I made a long time ago By the way (just wondering), Is it really usefull for Rika/Fal to have 2 claws equiped for each fight?I mean if there isn't such a big difference between 1 claw or 2 claws, we could save us the second part of the animation hypotheticaly.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought 2 claws does double damage. for about double the attack animation time. I guess you would save equip time.

equip/unequip takes less than 10 frames; it would be marginal. As for attacks...

to me, the best screenshot would be the obscene damage done to any boss by a Tsu shot. That'll get somebody who's played the game very interested in the TAS at a first glance.

Never mind, I tried a few fights, you litteraly split your damage by 2 when fighting with one claw. (Somehow I was thinking that it wouldn't be such a big of a deal as long as you could use the command "attack", but yes it is a problem.)
