About the run

This is julius mode any% TAS of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Although it is referring to cpadolf's zipping glitch-less tas, it differs fundamentally. This TAS is using SRAM.It created based on any%TAS of SOMA.

Tricks

Zipping Glitch

It will reappear, if it levelup out of a screen. However, it is conditions that there is a screen change.

Route

Two kinds were considered. It is route which manipulates memory and builts warp flag to the abyss, and route which goes without flag to Mine of Judgement. As a result, it turned out that the route which goes to Mine of Judgement is earlier. The result of having tested memory manipulation route is this dsm. A video data is here [dead link removed].Probably, in inside, the person who thinks that what is necessary is just to turn ON Menace related flags like SOMA any% is also. To be sure, same flag is in 020F718B, and manipulating is possible. However, an event applicable after dead does not exist in SOMA. Therefore, it seems that it is impossible to skip SOMA. The details of TAS which submited are as follows.

~Castle in

There is no necessity of kill flying armer this time. Therefore, YOKO skips. This one is as earlier as 1800Frames. Moreover, Movement of Julius is improved a little. It is as follows for details.
  1. backdash|Jump*8|blink|Jump+Upper|blink*3|Forward+kick|blink*9|
  2. Forward+Jump+Upper|Forward*2|Forward+kick|blink -> Jump+Upper|blink*2|Forward+kick|blink
average:
  1. (11888+11488+11088+10288+9888+9488+9088+8688+8288+7888+7488+7088+4688+14336*9+11936)/24 = 11214.25
  2. (6144*3+14336*2)->(11936+9536+7136+14336*2)/5≒11456

~Dario

It moves adjusting EXP. A route is the same as cpadolf's run. Although movement is slower than YOKO, it is early to killed Dario 189 Frame.

~Mine of Judgement

It is adjustment of EXP also here. It progresses before the entrance of Mine of Judgement by the shortest distance. Draghignazzo is killed out of a screen and it is zipping glich. It progresses to Mine of Judgement.

~SOMA's Room

The route from here does not change fundamentally. However, since Level is low, it takes time that much. Moreover, since HP is low, it preserves suitably. Here, time takes about 1 minute from cpadolf's Julius run.

Special thanks

  • cpadolf: I was allowed to refer to a part of route.
  • gocha: The memory address was investigated. And I referred to the memory address. Moreover, testrun was created first.
  • KAZU: Zipping glitch was found.
  • 透明な男: New Julius Movement was found.

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Accepting for publication. The previous Julius mode run will remain published as an in-bounds run, similar to this alternate character in-bounds run of a Castlevania game.

Thought it was a bit boring, honestly. Watching two minutes of just seeing you spam the attack button for every boss isn't exactly entertaining. Nothing really popped, but then again, there's not much you can do with this. Meh vote.

Very nice run. I personally really liked the extended boss battles. I vote yes for entertainment.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Thanks for the encode! It was interesting to see that this mode of the game can zip too. The longer fights were fun for a bit, but they did get tedious. You shake back and forth a lot in the fights and in the waiting times, which was a little distracting. However, I still liked seeing the route dominated with underpowered characters, and I'm giving this a Yes vote. I have one question though. When you fight Death in the Mine of Judgement, you slowly get back magic at the end of the fight. Why didn't you spend the rest of your magic to use fireballs and kill Death earlier? It didn't look like you needed to use that magic in The Abyss before you reached a save point anyway.

Yes vote, although I would like to see its counterpart, "all bosses, zips allowed" also on the site.

Yes vote. It is awesome to see a new zipping glitch. NKT... Will this submission replace cpadolf's movie?

I wouldn't hope so, as cpadolf's movie shows off considerably more of Julius mode. Anything I can say about the movie has already been said, it's technically very well made and smooth, but the bosses drag on a bit. I vote yes, but I'm not entirely sure whether it's a moon or a vault one.

I didn't see any glitches... Clearly this is my fault for not having played the game.

henke: Alucard is used to trigger a button from the wrong side using his teleport attack (debatable if this is a glitch since it seems very straightforward, but it's almost certainly not intentional). Then the Mines of Judgement are reached using some kind of out-of-bounds glitch, as near as I can tell. Otherwise it's a fairly "pure" run.

If this run is published as a separate category, then why does it get the "Notable Improvement" lightning bolt?

The situation is as follows: -The old definition of the previous TAS was 'beat julius mode as fast as possible'. By that definition it is a notable improvement. -Because the previous TAS is worth watching and essentially fulfills a different category (I think you'd call it Julius Mode no OoB?) it has been rebranded so it can be published alongside.

Very nice 10bit encode. Very smooth.

I agree with this. I hope one day, the flag(s) for the bosses would be found so the fights wouldn't be taking 1/2 the video. :P

Description mentions Yoko, but she is never recruited in this run.

Yoko Belnades and Alucard easily pick up the slack, though... or they would, but this run skips Yoko.

Yep, I put that bit in the description. Besides, Yoko shows up in the character selection images on the top later in the game, even though she is skipped. She also shows up in the credits.
