Samlaptop Comments

It's finally here people! The new 100% TAS of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee done in 1:01:35. This new run has been improved by over two minutes thanks to Shunpuk's discovery of the multiple backwards jump, using a camera trick in Paramonia, finding more ways on using the DDG and using the early bird portal closure glitch. In addition to all of these, Dooty has managed to improve every rescue.

This run had been delayed due to Dooty not being able to fix the missing ring. The only way I can fix the missing ring was to save at the last level of the game and reload the level so that objects will appear.

  • Recommended Emulator: PCSXRR-1.3f (July 2014 Revision. See link in the Abe's Oddysee forum for download.)
  • BIOS used: SCPH1001.bin

  • Sound Plugin: TAS Sound Plugin
  • Controller used: Segu DriectPad Pro 0.4

Here is a list of glitches that we used:

Death Delay

Often abbreviated as DDG once Abe jumps or rolls into an explosive, it makes Abe invisible and can corrupt his sprite. This glitch will allow Abe to get past things that would kill him. Abe's sprite will show up after entering a door and wells will cancel this glitch. Abe will die if he falls of a ledge or gets zapped. A video made by Sligfantry can show you how this glitch works:

Auto Turn Delay

This glitch works by standing on the edge of the ledge and pressing the down button quickly and run towards a spot where you would like to hoist down. You will need to press either 'left/down' or 'right/down' depending on which direction Abe was facing.

Stop 'n' Turn

By timing this glitch perfectly you can make Abe stop and turn. Combing it with the auto turn glitch above a ledge you will be able to make Abe do a backwards jump. This will allow you to jump backwards to areas and skip Zulags. In a 100% run it will allow you to get to secret areas quicker and it skips a section of StockYards Escape after finishing the secret area. Multiple Backwards Jump

Whilst performing a backwards jump, simply press up/jump and Abe will do a multiple backwards jump and in this run Abe will use it to skip Zulag 3 to get to Zulag 4.

Diagonal fall

This is done by combining the stop turn and the auto turn glitch. It is used as a time saver in Monsaic Lines and to save a frame in RuptureFarms.

Early Bird Portal Closure

This run contains a new glitch which saves a few frames. You can free the Mudokon a few frames earlier than a normal rescue. Here is the before and after video on how it looks when using the glitch.

Before watching this movie, you will need to format the memory card otherwise it will cause a desync.” What?

The only way I can get the missing ring to show up at the end of the stage is to save and load at the last level of the game. Dooty and I aren't sure what causes the missing ring not to disappear but saving and loading helps.

In the PC version of Abe's Exoddus, there is a hidden well in tuneel 3 and in a RTA run with that version, you have to restart the entire game to get the Tunnel 3 skip to work. I did a 100% run on the PC version once and I did have missing objects appear as well.

Save and reload... I never saw it before. I mean, unless there are some memory corruptions going on. But if it fixes that infamous missing ring, and does not waste too much time, I think it's okay. No, I didn't watch the run yet, my PCSX-rr is throwing errors at me every time I try to open a movie file. :(
I am old enough to know better, but not enough to do it.

I have the temp encode here but I'm on public wifi at the moment and it's very slow! You'll have to wait till I get back to fibre optic wifi. It will be uploaded on Thursday.

I have added the temp encode now. Dooty (and everybody else) can now watch it. Update: sorry for the strange effects in my upload. I had to convert my video to MP4 because YouTube didn't like my avi file. I will upload the avi file to a file host.
