Background
"Galf" is a homebrew NES game with a very interesting background. Galf originated from the 2017 Nintendo Switch game Golf Story, in whichyou could unlock and play an old school NES style golf game. A year after the game's original release, it was announced thatLimited Run Games would release a physical version of Golf Story for the first time ever. Along with the game being released physically, other cool pieces of memorabilia were produced, but most notably, around ~1,500 real 100% working NES Galf cartridges were made.
The Gameplay
Galf is a traditional third generation golf game, most closely resembling NES golf in its gameplay, mechanics, and UI. However, unlike NES Golf, Galf only contains 9 holes, as opposed to NES Golf's 18. Even stranger, the Switch version of the game only has 8 holes, leaving the 9th hole to be an NES exclusive.
As most of you likely know, the goal of golf is to get your ball into the cup at the end of each hole (marked by a flag on the map). The bar on the bottom controls both the power and accuracy of the shots. Landing in the pink area of the bar will give you the best accuracy, however sometimes you'll see me intentionally miss this. This is because the direction the ball was heading in was not in line with the hole, so by missing the pink area, I'm adding curve I wouldn't be able to have otherwise. Having accuracy left of the pink area will cause the ball to curve right, and having accuracy right of the pink bar will cause the ball to curve left.
Individual Hole Analysis
Hole #1: Very straight forward, two shots with the driver to chip it in.
Hole #2: The shot off the tee had slightly imperfect accuracy in order to cancel the wind which otherwise would've sent me out of bounds (as well as being a few frames faster anyway, due to the shot meter not taking as long).
Hole #3: I had to club down twice to a 5 wood on the second shot of hole 3 simply due to the other woods not being able to make the shot.
Hole #4: Very straight forward again, two driver shots to chip in.
Hole #5: Once again, pretty self explanatory, not much of note.
Hole #6: I intentionally chose to hit the tee shot at one less than max power. This is because max power will put you on a separate screen for putting (later seen in hole #9) which despite going in the hole faster after putting than the current hole #6 strategy does when chipping in, it still ended up taking longer overall due to the hole transition afterwards.
Hole #7: Hit slightly under max power on the first shot in order to barely avoid going in the sand.
Hole #8: Simple hole with two driver shots ending in a chip in.
Hole #9: Straight shot with the driver to get a hole in one on the par 5 to end the run. I was previously unable to get a hole in one on this hole, but luckily found the right wind on 9 to get it done.
RTA Records
No RTA speedruns have been performed of the NES release of Galf, however, some have been done on the version present in Golf Story. The current record for that version is a2:20 by Jengajam.
General Comments
Thank you for watching my TAS, and thank you for reading this description! I hope you enjoyed! Working on this TAS was really awesome, as I myself am a big fan of Golf Story (and am incredibly hyped for its sequel to come out), and had a lot of fun revisiting the game!

Samsara: Jadging.
Samsara: It's short (no I'm not replacing the O with an A in that word), but golf games are always kind of a hard sell for the audience, and the lack of thread feedback proves it despite the decent voting. Execution looks as good as it can be for this game, especially with the introduction of the HIO on hole 9. Accapting to Vaalt.
EZGames69: Prassessing!

The last one is impossible to be a hole-in-one?

I haven't tested all possible winds on 9, but from what I have, I've always been about ~10 yards away from the pin at best. Unfortunately, the only club that will even be close to the pin is the Driver, and you'll almost always need max power. The game's preset aiming options aren't very useful on this hole either, and there are only a few useful bars on the accuracy meter. All of these facts combine to make the potential amount of ways to hole in one go down drastically. It also would make sense if the developers attempted to make it impossible, as hole #9 is a par 5, and hole in ones on par 5s are something that never happen in golf. I'm not fully convinced its impossible though, and if anyone reading this wants to give it a try, I'd love to see it!

Apparently it has happened, although only in an astronomically low number of cases. But anyway.

Something tells me that even if you found a value for the wind that worked, you'd lose more time trying to manipulate for it than you'd save by avoiding the second shot...

Yes, standard runs are needed and very appreciated here too

Got Hio on 9! Slightly changed the way I played on 8 to manipulate what wind I got on 9. Fixed my major gripe with the movie. Saved ~3 seconds. Link to new encode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_6Mj_Wye6g Link to new bk2 file: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/71033412345323961

Game is kinda interesting as the thumbnail made me think it was an arial view of the course before putting you in the perspective of the golfer, like with other golf games on the site. But as soon as I saw golfing happening on that screen it caught me off guard. Haha. The TAS is good but idk if I would say it’s entertaining enough to make me watch it again, although it is short and sweet so that’s something. Think I’ll vote meh on this but I do appreciate the work on this run.
