Hey guys, Just thought I'd mention that I was able to launch Braid via hourglass. Not sure if anybody else has tried this, but I didn't see it in the official "supported list" on the google code page. Only needs a little setting tweaking... I didn't mess with much, frame advance appears to work, as well as pause. Not sure about speed up / down.
I accidentally the whole speedrun.

Do states work? Also, does it sync? Try recording a bunch of gameplay then playing it back.

it de-syncs very early into playback. save states work in some occasions, not in others.

So how did you get the game? Source of the game should be identical lest the movie file should not sync. Have you bought it on Steam?

I bought the game through a "humble indie bundle"... On playback it de-syncs very quickly into the movie, it has some other errors as well, large gameplay affecting ones. I can't help but wonder if it will be an "easy" fix for a developer. I intend on installing a bunch of older games and testing them out. I'll let you know if I get any better success :)

I had some inconsistent results with braid, but found that desyncs were far more likely to occur if you tried to record video immediately, rather than delaying a few frames and then starting the video recording.

I just started working on this game. It works quite well with hourglass, some savestates crash the program, but overall it's fine. I will update the input file and all informations in a GitHub repository regularly, along with videos of every section. Feel free to comment here or maybe using the issue feature in GitHub (needs an account). Link is here: https://github.com/clementgallet/braidTAS

I'm also interested on seeing a run of this game, wonder how the outcome will be. BTW, what goals will you aim at?

Presumably any%. 100% exists in Braid but there's a point where you have to wait for over two hours, and it'd be hard to make that long a wait entertaining. (Alternatively, a 75% that glitches into the 100% ending would be the highest reasonable percentage and potentially interesting, although a bit arbitrary. An any% would glitch into the 100% ending anyway because it's both slightly faster, and allows you to avoid watching a long cutscene.)

Ultra-ultra fast forward mandatory in the encode? ;)

Yes, I'm aiming at any%. As the time attack mode is only available when you finish the game once, I'm doing the normal game. One problem is about the puzzle parts. The fastest way do solve them would be to use the mouse, but it is not supported in hourglass.

Since there's no timing elements to the puzzle, could you make a macro of mouse input that solves the puzzle and play it as quickly as the game will read it?

Considering I couldn't even beat the game I think it would be very hard to find the optimal strategies. It's a very complex game. You'll be tasing with real rewind and tasing rewind which is interesting :)

Interesting. I like exploiting of corner boost(I used to do that by accident on real-time). Do you know how to make full-screen game in windowed-screen, by the way? I think there was the reference on your site.

Is it faster to jump on/over slopes than it is to walk along them? Or is it the same? (I seem to remember this having been a huge debate at one point.)

Did you read the old version of the readme? https://github.com/clementgallet/braidTAS/commit/66e9e3cfff897aa170f22aea478944d7f9dfe500 (It has information about mechanics and stuff, which keylie overwrote for some reason.)

I moved all comments to the wiki: https://github.com/clementgallet/braidTAS/wiki Yes, it is generally faster to jump, because slopes are slowing Tim down. However, on some occasions for upward slopes, you may have to delay the jump because landing is slowing Tim a lot. So, the optimal planning on slopes is really not straightforward :(

Are you planning on submitting a run with cloud warps or in speed run mode?
