The −1 stage is completely different. In the NES and Unisystem versions, the −1 stage repeats infinitely and cannot be completed, but in FDS, it can be completed, and then come −2 and −3.

The −3 stage in FDS is a castle level, and completing it ends the game, even though it says "princess is in another castle". The princess is not seen in the ending, but she is sighted twice in the −1 stage, as shown in this movie.

This movie is 84 frames faster than the previous one due to the use of a "cheap trick".

This movie is faster than the previous version due to various optimizations, including riding a vine in a very painful position.

This is the real Super Mario Bros 2. It was never officially released in the USA and Europe. It was later ported to SNES, and released as "Lost Levels" on Super Mario All-stars. Phil remembers there were pirate copies of this game under the name Super Mario Bros. 3.

FDS means Famicom Disk System. It was a Japanese disk-unit version of the NES.

This is an 85 frame improvement over the previous movie by Deign.

In the game you need to flip Mario like a pinball to obtain stars, keys, defeat enemies, and advance levels.

Of course the author completes these objectives with speed and precision and often while juggling multiple balls.

The movie this obsoletes was the first published Gameboy movie on this site. Remarkably, 4 years later, this improves it by only 74 frames, which is less than 2 seconds. Interestingly, this movie racks up exactly the same number of points as the original, the author making up for some new routes that didn't give as many as the previous.

This run works on both the Japanese and USA/Europe versions.

This movie is approximately a 5 second improvement to the previous movie due to a series of improvements discovered by the authors, detailed in the submission message.

Numerous bugs are exploited in order to speed up Mario's progress and the physics engine is abused to its fullest.

This new run features Luigi instead of Mario, who manages a 1:33 improvement over the previous run and demonstrates several new tricks for boosting his speed.

This improvement comes from a trick to save a mere half a pixel when accelerating from a stop. This trick allowed just enough to beat the 21 frame rule in 8-2 and save a frame in 8-4.

It is about a 2 second improvement over the previous movie by adelikat, klmz & andrewg. Most of the improvement comes from a new "shell glitch" that makes Mario decide to ignore the castle and instead rub sensually against the flag pole's support.

This is a sidestroller, speedwalk, or whatever you want to call it.

This movie underwent a very intense frame war. In the end, Happy Lee was the victor with this 4 second improvement over the previous movie.

Most of the tricks are however the same ― tricks which were discovered by various authors, such as Zaku, Sleepz, Genisto, Phil and DonamerDragon.

The concept for this run originated long ago because Princess was the only character not used in the normal run aiming for fastest overall time. Since then, improvements have removed Mario from that run as well.

Although this movie doesn't use the magic whistles, it does skip stages, and actually skips them quite a lot, with the aid of various items such as the hammers.

Note: This movie no longer uses death as a shortcut.

This is an improvement of about 56 seconds over the previous movie.

This 96 frame improvement over the previous movie features a completely new route through Bowser's Palace, even more off-screen auto-scroller action and other technical improvements detailed in the authors' comments. Finally, Lord Tom and Mitjitsu are proud to announce that the new run once again acquires 99+ lives magnificently.

Of all the games in Super Mario All-Stars, it's the only one in the set that saves your progress at individual levels rather than the start of worlds. It's that bad.

This movie, about 7 seconds faster than the previous, plays all levels, including the secret world 9, and extremely difficult A through D worlds.

Mario plays through all 8 worlds in a fashion similar to a warpless run.

This run is over a minute and a half faster than the previous published run, due to new exploits of the definition of a lap.

This run improves the previous version by about 2 minutes and 41 seconds due to various little optimizations and changed strategies.

This movie beats the previous SMW movie by an incredible four and a half seconds. Much of the improvement is due to abuse of a new glitch; the balance is caused by better lag management.

This run aims to complete as many exits as possible without collecting a powerup or visiting any Switch Palaces. Unable to fly, Mario is forced to confront most obstacles and overcome them in unique ways. Riding Yoshi is also banned.

86 out of the total 96 exits are completed.

We recommend reading the author's comments, because there's a lot more to this movie than meets the eye, even though the movie is very colourful, actionpacked and full with entertaining tricks and maneuvers.

Technically, the game is very exceptional on SNES due to its use of the SuperFX chip. The chip allows for many cool special effects that are otherwise impossible on SNES.
