Version info:

libTAS version: 1.4.0
First version and maybe last. I'll look for improvements.

I used the Steam version of the game (while adding a 'steam_appid.txt' file in the game folder with '1348160' inside) and used Debian 10. Before you can play back the movie and between two playbacks, you'll have to launch the game as a standalone until you can quit on the top-right corner menu (1rst level). If you have a warning while launching the game let it disappearing by itself before quitting.

If you already have the game and already played it, you can go in '~/.config/unity3d/Bayou Studio/Turn on the Light/prefs', there you can change the value of "current" and "max" to 1.

The only interresting thing that I discovered is a frame perfect trick that I called "repulsive magnet trick" which allows us to make move that you would normally wouldn't do. To do so, you move a first magnet that you want to come back in its initial position and you move the second magnet you want to move next to it as soon as possible (2 frames later). When the first will finish its move, the game will check if there is an opposite magnet next to it, this will be the case so the game will make the first return to its initial position but the second will stay there. This saved probably half a second on the whole movie.

After 13 years, I redo a TAS of this game with the help of the speedrunning community.

I'm using a SNES mouse for this TAS, I don't know what could be other settings you need to play back the file so warn me if there is a problem.

ROM : Jurassic Park (U) (V1.0) !.smc, a glitch happens in this version and not on the V1.1.

I wanted to know what was the highest point at the Pole Vault we can reach, but the game was broken before with the score and the vertical bar. I reached 21.2 At the end of the movie, it's the address of the score which softlock the event. I let you work on it if you are interested.

I DON'T REACH 21.2 M AS FAST AS POSSIBLE !

I don't know if a TAS of this game could be good or not. If yes, I don't know what could be the goal of the Decathlon (all events of the game)

  • max score? Since this WIP, I think it's not a good idea....
  • fastest time? I have a file for each event of the game but the slick stick controller allows us to be faster on this game and it isn't emulate on BizHawk.

I don't show all the file because it's useless :

  • 1rt clip : beginning of the score bug at 5.8 meters.
  • 2nd clip : beginning of the bar glitch ( height is defined after by your Y position ) at 7.8 meters.
  • 3rd clip : end of the movie at 21.2 meters with the softlock of the event and a weird glitch after.
