Introduction

Threat is a 2D top-down Alien Breed-inspired shooter from Finland. It features extremely engaging gameplay, unsettling atmospheres, and a terrifying feeling of being in danger. I used to play this game coop with my brother and would be scared out of our minds trying to achieve each of the level's objectives.
In this game, the levels are designed for the maximum (three) number of players. Nevertheless, they all can be solved by even a single player. In this movie, I play all three players simultaneously to finish Episode 1, going for the objectives right away even at the cost of taking damage or skipping monsters when possible.
In terms of strategy, this game has a shop where you can buy a diversity of weapons. These weapons are very useful to attack enemies that hide behind corners or when you need to deal AoE damage. However, I found using the initial Trigun and grenades led to the fastest solutions. The gun deals a lot of DPS and the grenades are useful for reaching enemies/targets beyond walls. So I didn't need to go for the fancier arsenal. It was a lot of fun to do this TAS. I will make movies for EP2 and EP3 in the following weeks, if I have time.
If you are going to play this game, this is the recommended soundtrack:
Finding this game was extremely hard. The shareware versions (1.30, ... 1.45) are findable all over the internet. The only registered version is findable on only-playable sites that do not expose a download button. I had to check into the browser's cache to find the associated .zip file. See the steps below to reproduce this process.

Software + Hardware

Emulator

  • EmuHawk 2.11 (Core: DOSBox-X)

ROM

Steps:
  • Find one of the sites that allow you to play the registered version this game online
  • Go to your browser's cache (e.g., Chrome: %LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\<Profile Name>\Cache) and find a recently downloaded file of size 1451972 bytes and SHA1: a5eb6ca4ebc3ec9af0f0a4273492703936a5c5a5
  • Rename that file to thread.zip
  • Extract the files within the 'Threat' folder into a folder and use this method to create a reproducible .iso file out of them. Do not include the Threat folder. See list of files below
  • You should end up with a file like this: threat.iso, SHA1: f4346f9d3a792947131d9f9e1977842570b46c13, 2926592 bytes

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Here’s one thing I can say about this TAS: if real life were TASable, I think I’d soil my pants and run like a scared sissy when eien86 showed up.
—wakes up—
Dang, what a nightmare. Thank goodness it was just a TAS... a very good TAS!
We have something similar here as the Wolfenstein series, where episodes are individually TASed. So...accepting to Standard as "Episode 1" branch.
