General info:
  • BizHawk 2.11
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Plays at easiest difficulty
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Manipulates RNG
This movie saves an additional 3 geyser eruptions in Be Prepared over the previous submission. One was saved by just barely leaving the geyser chamber in time after loading the leftmost geyser, which allowed for manipulation causing it to erupt second. The other two were saved by utilizing a newly discovered mechanic where if you leave the geyser chamber on the frame between when an eruption ends and the next one begins, you can cause the geyser to erupt multiple times in a row while still decrementing the remaining eruption counter.
This only works if the counter gets reset to an odd number after the eruption finishes, which means there is an RNG element to it after each eruption. In a purely hypothetical scenario, it could be possible to cause the leftmost geyser to erupt 5 times in a row, which would be the optimal pattern. However, in the Genesis version, the RNG seed gets reset to a fixed value at the beginning of each stage, and there is no opportunity to manipulate RNG in this stage outside of waiting at the top before falling out of bounds for lava droplets to advance the RNG. This wastes way more time than it could possibly save, so I believe this is the optimal pattern for the Genesis version.

CoolHandMike: Claiming for judging.
CoolHandMike: Good improvement to this game. Over the years more and more tricks to save time have been found so impressive even more have been found.
Accepting to Standard.
Good job!

CoolHandMike: Sorry about that, missed that replacement request in Discussion. Replacing file with improvement.
CoolHandMike: To get the missed improvement through completely after being published this needs to go through the publication process once more. No extra work is necessary on the author(s) side. This is being accepted again with the improvement.

inconsistent: Processing, this time with the correct file....
