Introduction

RTP:TNFS-SE barely needs an introduction. The first game in the series features novel 3D graphics with realistic racing feel and dynamics. The game features both touring tracks and racing circuits and a selection of contemporary sports cars. Along with these, extensive car documentation, a swell soundtrack, and fascinating videos (unfortunately not rendered here) made for a groundbreaking experience for petrolheads.
In this TAS, I enter tournament mode to race and win on each single track, thus unlocking and then racing 'Lost Vegas', the bonus track in the game's Special Edition (SE). The tournament starts pretty light but, as you start winning, the rubberbanding becomes brutal to the point you cannot make a single mistake or you get left severely behind. At some points I had to block the opponents from passing me.
I tried my best to optimize every turn and go for the best racing lines as possible, but I don't guarantee each of the races beats RTA individual track records. It has been mentioned to me that some tracks work better with different car selection. Nevertheless, I just wanted to make a tribute to this classic with a sufficiently optimized whole-game baseline TAS, and hope this motivates others to beat it in subsequent submissions.
Enjoy!

eien86: Cancelling due to RTA WR being faster. Will probably re-do eventually trying to beat that one

I wanted to make a TAS like this for Top Gear for n64 but ran into the similar RTA individual track problem, also emulation was very irritating for 64 bizhawk
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

This game looks great, I can see why it is considered a classic! The TAS looks good too and it is very satisfying to see extreme rubberbanding like this being defeated. Easy "yes" vote here.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Hi eien, I'm going through this submission currently and I noticed that all three segments of the City track are slower than the RTA world record for this game (https://www.speedrun.com/nfs1/runs/y82340wy ), each by about 1 to 3 seconds, despite both using the same car and the same gamemode. Are there any differences between this and the RTA run I need to know about that would contribute to the TAS being slower?

Hi InputEvelution, Yes, as stated in the sub notes, my goal was to make a tribute to the game with the best execution possible that I could muster. Racing games are very tricky to TAS in that in-game skills are hard to replicate (which racing lines to follow, when to shift gears, at which speed to take each curve), even if you have the power of re-records. So I didn't set the goal to beat the RTA WR, but instead to make a decent enough movie bring this game on the site, and hopefully push other skilled gamers to subsequently improve on it. P.S.: The corresponding RTA WR is this one: https://www.speedrun.com/nfs1/runs/y6534oqz
