Seems like I forgot to post it. Glitched pause-jumping only works with a controller. You can do skips similar to Mega Man ones, bypassing screens entirely. Still refer to the video I previously posted, just know it requires gamepad input to execute. Edit: ah, and by that I mean you need to use the gamepad jump button. Pausing doesn’t matter.

ゴロゴロいわのひみつ 5F更新:追記3895回 ケムリめいをぬけて 4F更新:追記2503回 5 and 4 frames saved, damn that’s big. That sliding off slopes thing is paying off, did people only figure it out after Eru did it in the TAS Task thing? lol Edit: Damn, that guy is going in. 16 frames saved in the second vid. O_o

At 4:32 it sounded like you didn’t make the dialogue go away as fast as possible, why is that? Also when exiting the village you went straight down which seems weird, is it not faster to go diagonally down-right?

At 0:30 do you have to wait that long to shoot that thing in order to get shot in the correct place? It looks slow. The strategy looks pretty solid I guess… except for that 1 C.Shot that was used to kill an enemy and not zip anything. Rush Coil should be tested but I think it’s slower. Is the midboss not killed faster by the fire weapon? If you could avoid C.Shotting it as much you may be able to zip somewhere else. You had some Fire thing leftover after the boss. Also was it really necessary to kill the small bees at the boss? Looked like it slowed you down.

I tried verifying this run with my old device which has proven to verify other runs and again it does not verify with the same results. I spoke with Masterjun about this and he may or may not be working on a test program to verify the behavior of the bus when doing open bus reads. My guess at this point is that the bus is terminated, so reads are returning a fixed value, and this property is causing the verification issue. It also would mean that the emulator is inaccurate, which would mean what for this run? :)
How did it go?
Yeah, how did it go?

Hey, since you people seem to have interest analyzing the game, are there any ways to skip the 70 star endless stairs without being at very high speeds? Even if it needs cheats, at least knowing whether or not its possible may eventually lead to something.
I don't think so, but why are you asking? It doesn't really matter anyway
It could make ABC any% a lot faster? Only 50 stars needed.

The result and the game actually look really nice. Maybe I’ll participate next time. Hope someone will work on putting everyone’s best inputs together for a massive collaborative TAS submission.

1. How do the heaven/hell portals work? Why does the game suddenly shoot you far below/above? 2. Is the submitted TAS possible in other versions of the ROM? If not, is the general route at least possible?
1. Never heard the “hell” term before, lol. Honestly I have no idea how they work. Outside the castle I think you get heaven every time unless you hit the water surface or press A/B 4 frames before hitting the wall. For the infinite stairs skip, SKing early gets heaven, SKing late gets hell. In the fake SA entry, only hell seems to be possible even with an early SK. In other places only hell is possible because the roof stops heaven. 2. Never even checked version differences myself.

ALAKTORN wanted his name to be first because he found the glitch which made the run possible, I respect that. Saying he improved 50 secs of the 52 secs? That doesn't sound right to me.
To be fair, he never said that.
Yeah, that’s why I corrected Plush. If you actually check the YT comment Plush took that from, I only said that the new route + glitch only saves about 50″, because I figured all the little frame optimizations we did weren’t that big of a save, and I was discussing whether it would be possible to do RTA. Never said I saved 50″. Btw I was theorizing skipping BitFS back in 2011, before we even published the first 8-star run now that I check, lmao. I was trying a different method, though, which doesn’t actually work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO8YFBU8nxw
Fabien M. 3 years ago How do you get there ?
abcdefghilihgfedcba 3 years ago in reply to Fabien M. @renardfurieux watch?v=ZYyeMP46xdA just do that in the JRB room
So basically I was talking about bunny glitching in JRB before we even published the 8 stars run. I was pretty confident back then that running OoB would work, but I never actually tested it because I was too lazy, so I didn’t think much of the idea until MKDasher proved it to be possible with cheats. I also tried getting a HP in the main lobby and all adjacent areas a lot, but never got anything. That would be the absolute best possible strategy, and would let you beat the game in 0 stars I believe. Oh hey, look at this. Who’d have thought 4 years old chat logs would come in help now. (The beginning is about HMC Toad)
(22:32) MKDasher: wtf you glitched toad? (22:32) ロッテ: sure he’s next to a wall (22:32) MKDasher: .-. (22:32) ロッテ: even Toad in the main lobby should be doable I want to try him (22:32) MKDasher: wait which toad (22:32) ロッテ: lol Ima go behind the key door and load next area (22:33) MKDasher: oh that toad? o.o (22:33) ロッテ: fffffffffffff we don’t have the key (22:34) ロッテ: hmm I don’t think he’s close enough to the wall (22:35) ロッテ: HOLY SHIT WHAT OH MY GOD THE AREA ACTUALLY LOADS O_______________o (22:35) ロッテ: IF ONLY THAT TOAD WAS GLTICHABLE… well it’d be hard getting to the key door from there (22:36) ロッテ: are there any other toads? (22:36) MKDasher: minigame room not close to any wall he's in the middle xD (22:36) ロッテ: WF… (22:37) ロッテ: none of these are close enough to be glitchable :S (22:38) ロッテ: there’s a bunny in the aquarium level =O room*
This was Sep 25 2011, same date I uploaded that vid. Something interesting about JRB glitching I had forgotten:
(22:40) ロッテ: actually I remember videos where they glitched in the aquarium room couldn’t you get behind the key door from tehre (22:40) MKDasher: you should be by walking like you did (Note: he’s talking about the fact that while testing the basement bunny glitch, I was able to walk around a corner while OoB inside a wall.) (22:43) MKDasher: it'd be funny if we get this and skip bitfs too xD (22:43) ロッテ: yeah lol can you find the vid that glitches in the JRB room? (22:43) ロッテ: how did he do it (22:44) MKDasher: never saw that (22:44) ロッテ: wasn’t there a vid of some guy glitching there in the room to get to the key door then (22:44) MKDasher: didnt see anything in the room (22:44) ロッテ: really? (22:45) ロッテ: I remember something (22:45) MKDasher: well glitching look easy if you can do that (22:45) ロッテ: I think someone entered the secret level where you swim with fishes without loading the water (22:45) MKDasher: bunny gets close to the wall (22:49) ロッテ: hmmmmmmmmmmmmm (22:49) MKDasher: there could be a problem star 1 door is on our way (22:58) ロッテ: seriously there was a video that glitched in JRB it was on YT :S (22:59) MKDasher: i only remember that seeing in sm64 .-. (22:59) ロッテ: I’m sure the vid said “there’s no way out so be careful” in SM64 there is way out with HSWK
Would be nice to find that JRB glitching YT vid again…

Then I came with an idea myself. I knew there was a few things that potentially could make you go out of bounds in Joy Roger's Bay room. First one was the hole that looks like the entry for Secret Aquarium (I think ALAKTORN came up with this idea as well? I don't remember). You can slidekick there, and the idea was to get a heaven portal, and then fall behind the 2nd key door. The only thing we could get there was instant death. In the end, I came up with the idea of using the bunny there.
So this isn’t right. I don’t know who thought of the fake SA entry HP first, but we couldn’t get that anyway. I had the bunny idea and we attempted it already way back in 2011.

There are a lot of things in the submission text I would change/add if I were an editor.

If you got that from my YT comment then that was a wild guess. I have no idea how much I saved by discovering the glitch.

I still feel like this type of game should be botted rather than having a human TAS it.

I won't talk about the money stuff but you sound like an asshole here. TASing isn't about being the best one in the world, if you want all the rewards then re-do the whole TAS yourself.
So I’m the asshole, not MKDasher. OK. I simply requested something I thought I had the right to. I know what TASing is about more than you do.

I didn’t even know |2| means a reset. I’ve TAS’d on DeSmuME since version 0.9.4 and have never seen a reset in an input file, lol. Btw in Notepad++ you can Ctrl+H and replace all instances of “|2|” into “|0|”. Shouldn’t be too tedious to do every time you stop recording and watch it back. Oh and also, Lunar Knights TAS?! Hype!! Make a topic for it and post your progress.

What the fuck. I never gave you permission to upload this to your YT channel (he didn’t even ask me before submitting the run here). I’m also requesting that the names in the title be switched– I want to be named first, as I was the one who found and TAS’d the bunny glitch that made this improvement possible. I let MKDasher have his name first in the other submissions (even though that’s not alphabetical order so he didn’t have much of an excuse for it) because he did more work than me in those. But in this one I deserve to be named first.

I made a highlight of a damage boost. http://www.twitch.tv/alaktorn91/c/5977700 If I get it again I’ll try to highlight it again. Still don’t understand how it works, I don’t do anything special. Just hold right and either press or not the jump and attack button, depending on the situation.

Lol 0x. Wasn’t this the game that required you to wait for 1 hour doing nothing to progress? I wonder how the TAS gets around that. I’ll wait for an encode.

25fps should be plenty enough if what you’re doing is creating a TAS and not just casually playing the game. I don’t see the problem.

Getting off the pole. Simply dropping from the top isn’t enough to clear the gap and land on the floor.

TASers aren’t gamers, gamers play games, TASers TAS games. They are astronomically different things. The fact that most TASers also play games is an aside, such TASers would then also be gamers.
