Keeping things secret is the best way to miss out on optimization and tricks.

On the bases of this, game end glitch would be appropriate to have for a branch.
lol you mean it wasn’t already obvious that this should be labeled as such?

In the menu do you press Down, nothing, Down etc.? Have you tried using diagonals to scroll? Down+Left, Down, Down+Right or something like that.

^At 0:47 why do you fall pushing against the wall? Doesn’t that hinder your acceleration?

You’re correct.

^It’s at 30:17, top-right screen by the way. I wasn’t really thinking it could be faster, but it could be a way to add entertainment. Does anyone know who that girl commentating is, btw? Also how the fuck did Krauser crash the game at 32:46? lol

I’ve just watched the AGDQ DKC2 race and saw 2 tricks that I think I’ve never seen in a TAS. The first one was a camera-scrolling trick to get super speed in one of those honey-filled levels, you sacrife the spider in some way and then you team up and somehow the scrolling gets weird and you run to the right super fast. The other one was a double KO against the ghost parrot, which still counts as beating it. Were they ever done in a TAS? It’s 3AM so I’m going to sleep, no time to check myself right now.

I don’t care about Caleb. I’m a speedrunner myself with more WRs than you can imagine, and it’s just stupid to think that an emulator run can be considered one.

Does this obsolete a published run? I’ll watch it when I have time.

Damnit, I wish I could’ve watched it live. I barely stayed awake through the DKR race. Edit: watched the VOD, it was pretty cool. I wonder what the heck was supposed to happen at the end though… Edit2: I guess the Ars Technica article explains that.

Can I say that waiting frames to let the game advance the RNG to the outcome you want is not manipulation? huehuehue ok I’m out

First point: Are you able to elaborate on that? About emulators being banned for Pkmn games, I mean.
I just watched one of his newer WRs on YT and everybody was talking about that in the comments and he himself during the WR run (which was on an actual GBA). Basically I think they said it’s too easy to cheat on emulators, you can even change the code to make subtle, I guess undetectable cheating possible.

Yeah, that sure is awkward, playing the game how it’s meant to be played!

By the way many of Werster’s Pokémon WRs have apparently been invalidated because now emulators are banned for those games. Just found it funny, lol. @Hetfield: you having the most optimized run doesn’t mean that you hold the WR. A WR is more than simple optimization. You sound like you would claim WR even if you were 1 second or so behind Caleb, because you run on emulator which is slower, therefore your run would actually be more optimized than Caleb’s and the true WR. A real player wouldn’t consider an emulator run to be a WR, sorry. lol Ask your followers for donations and get a real SNES with the game, then get the real WR.

Working around the lag should be easy. Instead of using the emulator’s frame counter, look in RAM for a frame counter that does not update during lag (I think this usually is 2 frames behind the emu’s frame counter), and just use that address for your Lua to detect whether there was lag or not. I have no idea what you’re trying to do so maybe I’m wrong, but our Advance Wars: Dual Strike TAS bot uses the frame counter from RAM to avoid doing input during lag frames, so if it works there it should work for you. But still, don’t forget to try and do lag reduction optimization yourself.

Yeah so you should change the input to stop making Tekken 3 worse.

Regarding the vid in the first post, I think it looks nice but you should focus on optimizing the slower game more (Tekken 3) so that they finish both at the same time. Maybe you could have a round in Tekken 2 where you don’t kill using the suicide attack, but normal combos so Tekken 3 can catch up to Tekken 2.

Haha, I need to do that… I don’t have any 2014 memories in particular. I guess it’s memorable that I started like 3 TASes and didn’t finish any of them.

But this emulator DOES emulate the game properly. Hetfield does not use any features such as turbo. I'm stating facts here. Hetfield has both any% and 100% world records, plays on emulator, and uses a keyboard. That is objective, not a matter of opinion.

How can you be sure that calebhart hasn't prerecorded his run and streamed it? your point is invalid, either you don't believe anyone or you believe it simple is that note im not accusing calebhart to prerecord his runs ofc im just making a point here that anyone could cheat in one way or another if they wanted to
Like, who the fuck are you two even? Is this Hetfield creating multiple accounts to defend himself? Could someone from the staff verify?

Both of these runs are going to be put on hold indefinitely, sorry for those (especially you paused) who were looking forward to the finished projects. Maybe sometime down the road I'll have the free time to finish them, but it won't be anytime in the foreseeable future.
Are you still busy? Also, why did you never show an encode for the Leaf Storm boss, after you finally beat the RTA WR?

lets say that this version of emulator emulates 100% and the only claim that one can make against it is "he uses a keyboard" or that you can't verify that he is playing legit since he is not seen actually play it. would you guys say hes runs are legit?
Regardless of verifiability, I would not consider such an emulator run to be a legit WR. A WR should be run on official hardware.

This is a dumb concept, SNES9x is slower than console for most games since it runs 60 FPS where as console runs slightly faster, however you can set 2 or even 3 or even up 4 buttons for mashing in emulator to your advantage. But in terms of speed its completly legit since the emulator doesn't run any faster than console lol
Running less than 0.1 frames faster won’t save anything when compared to the massive lag reduction an emulator such as SNES9x probably does.
