the flipjump entering Onikage’s boss battle was really cool :D your old Meiō strategy looked better though… it’s not faster to use bombs?

he doesn’t want to replace this run with USA, JPN and USA can be considered different games for how widely different they are he’s just improving on Hathor’s run now using the same version for a new submission

that was super awesome!!! I hope you can keep up this quality for the full run :) one thing I just found: it’s possible to do infinite jumps with ALL types of jumps, maybe there’s a faster jump than a dashjump? side jump maybe? have you tried that? also I’ve been playing around with the hook a little, and since it works based on the camera angle, you can make it do some strange things 1. if a wall is close behind you (so the camera is close to your head), you can do a quick shoot, but you won’t go anywhere; also you can sometimes hook things behind you: https://youtu.be/4MeLvLilR_g 2. an idea: maybe using L1 together with the hook can allow for different angles or make it faster? 3. I’ve somehow got boosted forward on my soft landing on top of a roof, what I did was: I was crouched, moved forward and threw a quick hook at the same time (while holding forward and R1); it seems to be pixel-perfect… don’t know if it could actually be used anywhere also I found a faster strategy for Echigoya: http://youtu.be/Y3X4ZQFVTz8 this is faster by about ″30 by my calculations edit: I found another Echigoya strategy which may be even faster, I’ll make a vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5JJeEdy6SA&t=37s edit2: wow nevermind, the in-game timer is bad… it stops counting when Echigoya hits the ground, not when you kill him, so this strategy is bad…

how is your Reclaim the Castle so fast? you didn’t use Hathor’s skip O_o (I assume it’s impossible in Jap v.1.0) anyway, if this were to be published, I don’t think it should obsolete Hathor’s run, but be published as a separate “Japanese 1.0” run or whatever, as far as optimization goes I can already tell you that despite what the frames say N?K’s run is better optimized, it’s just the version differences that play into it

Good idea, I didn't think this. But I think jump forward to wall then jump back is faster, didn't test
you should test it, then; maybe you can hex-edit the following stages

The final boss I was remake 4th times, at the final time I was saved 2 bombs. Wasted 4 frames for take them, is it big :D
that should be easy to hex-edit by removing the 4 frames in which you take the 2 bombs, have you tried?

in the cure the princess(?) level, at the beginning you seem to run in the wrong direction and then you turn left to correct yourself… wasn’t that bad? and at the end, after the final hook shoot, can you trigger the cutscene with a sidejump? (right arrow + jump button) it should be faster than turning and running forward if possible in the last level you took 2 bombs that you didn’t use, would it be faster to not take them or to use them in the level before?

why not just play the USA version and improve the published movie? you can do it with your optimizations also I think it would be cool to go for a score run, which means killing every enemy without being seen (I think); you also have to start the level at the correct time to have the best pattern for scoring I guess

^the encode is black at the end… your run looks well optimized, but I don’t think doing fewer levels can be considered an improvement… you should use whichever ROM has all the levels a thought: is it slower to dashjump into loading zones? for example the boss killed with shuriken, is it slower to dashjump into the cutscene instead of simply running?

^to get the soft landing, I think you need to throw the hook lower than what you’re doing. try hitting the underside of the roof with the hook, don’t hit above the roll before entering the house looked cool, but is dash jumping into the hole really slower?

uhm, going by that video, it seems like the speed item is almost useless in the Jap version? in the published TAS it goes a lot faster… so I don’t know if Jap version will be faster in the end just because of that midboss skip in the first level (but maybe there are more skips/changes later on?) and, do you really need to get Grand Master in level 2? the published TAS doesn’t, and saves a lot of time by not caring about rank disregarding that, you still got a hard (slow) landing from the hook shoot at the beginning, but maybe it’s unavoidable because that’s a long shoot… don’t remember how it works; and at the end I think it would be faster to just do the infinite long jumps until you reach the finish without going down from the roofs and using the speed item… also can you make another video for your new level 1 TAS? I don’t have the emulator but I would like to see it

your beginning was terrible, I think you used the hook too slowly (moved too much to the left with it), and the positioning of it was also wrong because you had a “hard” landing instead of a “soft” one which is faster check out my unassisted run where I get a soft landing and I think I have a faster hook by not aiming left: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9jT3Jp63vs (if you need to aim more to the left, try running to the left and then shooting straight instead of running straight and then shooting left) after the infinite dash jumps glitch, you go straight and do 2 more (I think that’s good), then you enter the house thing with a roll and fall into the hole simply by running into it, you sure that’s the best strategy? I don’t know if doing a dash jump or simply running is better than the roll when entering in, but I think doing a dash jump into the hole is faster, try that I think the boss fight should also be improvable, I remember that you can hit the enemy with the sword at the same time the bomb hits them, and that lets you continue the combo without them falling back away from the bomb’s blast also, are you sure it’s fastest to do the dash jump ASAP, instead of a few frames after the dash? maybe the initial dash speed is slightly faster than the jump, but I don’t know because I’ve never tested it with TAS; this would probably require RAM Watch to see the speed address to optimize correctly I should probably watch the published run again to remember a few tricks too… if you’re gonna TAS the game then I’ll try to help you by watching the WIPs, good luck edit: by the way, did you pick the hardest difficulty? I can’t tell because it goes by too fast
