does anyone know about version differences in this game? I've heard people saying in JP version some techniques are faster while in others they aren't, that mixing PAL CD with NTSC PlayStation (or viceversa) makes Crash run faster, that PAL is faster on some levels and slower on others, that diagonal jumping/zigzag works with some controllers and not with others…

movies are simple inputs, hexing is simply writing input instead of making it you keep saying "1 pixel" and the like, but I think the word you're searching for is "pellet", at least I've always called Megaman bars in pellets, not pixels I don't actually understand what your problem is, I already forgot what you wrote in that post actually… I'm too tired to focus

I always use them in sequence, I can end up with over 40 savestates used for a few minutes of TASing :D

Sorry if this is not the right place for this question, but i'd like to know if i need the exact same version of the emulator that the TASer used to make a movie, to play the movie without descync or a newer version should work fine. I'm using DeSmuME 0.9.7 and tried to play some videos and they descync in the very beginning. I'm using the right version of the roms and i do what the TASer ask in the submission text, like activating something or desabling something, but it's not working. Any idea of what's wrong?
you need to use the same emulator, too, I've experienced many differences in lag with different emulator versions (newer versions tend to have less lag), which makes movies desynch

at first I found it funny but then I noticed there really is nothing that tells me "TAS", it looks like a human could accomplish a very similar run… voted no, bad game choice

Hence I suggest trying to draw a story or something we can follow and be entertained by, instead of just wavy lines or whatever that went on here. If this game is too restricting to draw something entertaining, then it's not TAS worthy.
that's where it seems you haven't read the submission text, he purposefully made 'wavy lines' to speed up the TAS because people complained about the previous run being slow

I assume when you said that the "Piano Player" part was the "climax" of the movie, you were trying to make it sound as though you had just orgasmed onto the touch screen after playing that SSBB song, then spent the rest of it vigorously trying to clean it off?
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD I voted yes, more of the same nice stuff

The judge in charge then would tell that you chose the wrong version of the game and might try to reject the submission for that reason. You should instead tell everyone that the JP ROM has superior music/graphics, higher difficulty and/or tricks only available in this version.
loololololololo I read in the rules or wherever that less lag is a good reason to use JP ROM it does have different graphics but just some menus which are prettier there is a glitch only possible in JP version, but I don't think it'd help in a Campaign TAS going for real-time lag affects the RNG in this game so having less lag also means different RNG manipulation, but that's kind of impossible to calculate if it's better or not

M6 synch on JP ROM without cheats now: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1063998005/M6.dsm the input file is 15 frames longer due to Grit's COP being something like 20 frames longer than on US version (5 or so frames of less lag saved) so I think this means there are no changes in the RNG in the JP version

Well, looks like I finally did it! Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRFbWeEONqg&feature=channel_video_title This isn't necessarily faster than the normal method, but we are now only two Shine Sprites away from completely skipping Yoshi!
that was a nice glitch, congratulations :)

I wanted to check differences between ROMs, and to research that I've hexed my M6.dsm to (almost) synch with JP ROM: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1655783369/M6.dsm still requires OHKO cheat because the lag being different, the RNG also is, and I forgot how that formula works so I can't hex around it HP address is 1A14A8 changes that came up: 1. JP ROM seems to be much faster at starting the game and has less lag in general, making me have to add in a lot of blank frames 2. JP's Grit's COP takes more time, probably due to the longer name, this doesn't affect the final in-game time because the game is smart enough not to count this screen 3. for some weird reason, JP ROM has 1 frame of lag less compared to US's right after attacking the first Neo I might do the Campaign TAS using JP ROM, seeing as it apparently has less lag this is all on DeSmuME's v.0.9.6 though, but I think it holds true for 0.9.7 too
