I have controversial feelings about this run. On one hand it is entertaining and deeply optimised movie, thanks to effort of many people (particularly Tee-N-Tee)... ...but on other hand it looks like almost the same as the regular run on most of levels. Very small difference in gameplay. Almost nothing new. For example "Maximum Individual Rings Challenge" is require absolutely new infinitely different routes full of blowminding actions, it is a lot more interesting goal than ringless imho. It doesnt mean than "Ringless" is bad goal itself, but doing nothing is always less interesting than doing something. With a heavy heart i voted No. Sorry guys.

@goldenband Well, my attempt was successfully completed. Behold the proof that it is possible to beat the game in 1P on Expert: Link to video Now expression "the time limits are just too strict" sounds like a funny joke. Usually a lot of unused time left. In most of levels i even dared ignore capsules of time (which possible get from dead ninjas).

Meh, it's just mean that they all were not enough skillful to do it. Ok, i intrigued. I will try to beat this game by my own. *At expert mode with 1P difficulty without cheats obviously. Note: It will be not optimised movie, just simply attempt to verify - is possible or not.

Just wanted to renew my request for this. It remains unproven that the game can be beaten in Expert mode with 1P difficulty, and a TAS would be the way to answer that conclusively.
Just out curiosity why you suddenly decided that exist a chance that this game can NOT be beaten 1P on expert mode? There are absolutely no fundamental obstacles to do it. It not even seems to be somehow difficult. Even more, i believe that 2P mode is preferable for this game, because it would be a way more interesting/entertainment to watch (and a lot harder to produce) than 1P. It was offtopic. Now seriously: Adventures of Batman & Robin

Yourself since you decided to take a risk to walk outside. It was act of a free will.

It's slowpoke scientists from ITER. Actually they violated my free will several times too. But my will is strong so i keep trying to summon it... hopefully i will succeed to do it somewhen in 2040s-2050s.

Minor update: I applied small tradeoff for entertainment. In final version of TAS level "flying a plane" will be a bit more hilarious - there is a bug allowed to fly a plane in absurdly funny body position. Lazy to redo encode, but it will look approximately like this: --- Now our pirate team can moving forward again - the next stop is "Janda Town". After such frazzling jumping and awkward flying Tula deserve rest a bit. Ioz kindly agreed to replace her. So in the next time Ioz will make his move, while Tula regain her strength after heavy overdose by gravity potion.

Bobo Mountain: Link to video Ufff.... finally this stage is done. A lot of blindfold jumping at crazy speed was not so easy to optimise.

At current point no sense to provide list of mistakes. Problem is - that the first levels are so simple, but you managed to make so many mistakes... It mean that with more complicated levels, routes and optimisation opportunities amount of flaws will be uncountable. I recommend to continue this movie as test-run to very end to see full picture. And only when try to make properly optimized version. By the way, how many nuts in this game?

Wow, Nuts% seems to be quite crazy hilarious category. I look forward to see it! Good luck. Btw, since you working on SNES version - probably worth to update any% run for SNES? At least 30 seconds can be easily saved just by map skips between levels. You can re-sync old input in most of levels (and to keep DaTeL237 as co-author) and just re-do a few rare levels there real gameplay changes are necessary to time. Edit: Oh, damn you are work on BizHawk so you can't use his old input from Snes9X... Upd: I watched your movie-file and made some short tests. Sadly to say it... but your optimisation is quite sloppy. Arbitrary goal combined with weak optimisation => i afraid chances to be accepted are close to zero. However goal itself is quite interesting, so i hope you will continue this project. I still look forward to see it.

The next stage is so beautiful, really hope to see it done soon :) I remember there were a lot of secret rooms, and you'll be flying a "plane" in the middle of the stage.
Many of levels in this stage are enough long, so worth to use gravity potions (whole 4 potions if be exact) it mean that a lot ultra-fast jumping offscreen will take place. => some long levels look like just a scrolling camera from start to end, it is not very impressive to watch... Though there are some pleasant exceptions - when need to change direction or/and to restock potions, in these cases Tula is back to visible side of screen: I will finish this stage approximately on next week. Not hurry, Quality >> Time.

A bit offtopic, but would be great if you guys as team also will try to work with "Maximum Individual Rings Challenge" (aka Perfect Bonus) after finishing this wonderful project. That run is a lot [A LOOOOOOOOOOT] more complexity and entertainment than "No Rings". Just look on Perfect Bonus Metropolis 2 by Tee-N-Tee to estimate scale of madness.

What’s the red potion exactly, anyway? Some kind of an energy drink I guess?
Technically it's not a drink, but kind of magical aerosol. To activate this potion you need break a bottle and make breathe in the fumes. However for TAS possible to cancel "break a bottle" animation and to enjoy effect of potion for 44 frames longer... so i believe after all it's can be used as a drink too. Most likely it just so disgusting taste, that most of people prefer to not drink it, but breathe, even if it less effective way.

Thanks, i also enjoy games with tons of secrets. Various secrets usually make game research and route planning more interesting. Btw a few secrets/bonus stages were successfully used as shortcuts in this run.

Archanfel, did you use the super jump at any point? (Since I didn't watch all the levels completely.)
Nope, superjump as well as level-skip were not used because they are kind of cheats. Closest thing more or less similar to superjump you can notice (if dare to watch completely) is that during flying in Bath or on Aeroplane possible keep high vertical speed after jumping on enemy. This undocumented glitch was used several times with a clear conscience :)

Can you please shed a bit more lights on this matter? When distance between Timon and Pumbaa is enough big - camera's scrolling taking appreciable amount of time, during this time both characters are not moving. Is not it would be faster if to switch between characters more often to minimise unnecessary periods of inactivity during long camera scrollings? *For example, in level "The Big Fight" [between 32:40-35:30] such long and time consuming camera scrollings happens several time.

The Smurfs is pretty slowpaced game - it's nearly a best possible candidate for first TAS. Seems you already have pretty deep knowledges about this game, it's enough to make good TAS. TASer is sleeping inside of each speedrunner who ever thought that human's skills and reflexes are not enough to make flawless speedrun. Not afraid to make first step. Try to awaken your inner TASer. Just Do it! Look TASTutorial to learnd how to make a Tool Assisted Speedrun; Well, adelikat's tutorial about FCEUX for NES, but all these ideas and principles are applicable for other emulators too, like Gens for Genesis for example (or Bizhawk). Also read TasingGuide. Any questions (even the most stupid) you always can ask in The Newbie Corner. At first try to make rough weakly-optimised test run tas for full game. Just to learn how properly work with tools, and by trial and error learn basics of optimisation. And only when start your second more serious attempt and try to reach to limit of game (as close to the limit as possible at least) and make good TAS. Good luck!

Port of Pandawa: Link to video 2-1 Grabbed 2 bottles and all gold coins. 2-2 Zip up inside wall to skip first key. Used OOB route to skip the second key, however get this key anyway for next stage. Get yet 3 bottles, actually it's a whole treasure, in second half of game they will became rare and then completely disappear closer to end. 2-3 Skip first dialogue with monkeys, used extra key from previous stage. Linear areas like this are very effective for application of gravity potion. Only one bad thing about super speed - it's possible jumping forward in one direction so fast that camera not able to keep player on screen... Absurd situation: incredibly fast speed lead to reduce of entertainment instead of increase. 2-4 Actually i was surprised to improve maTo's boss fight. There is strict 99 frames rule between hits, and i thought zero chances to improve this fight, however unexpectedly found glitch allow to make 2-HP strikes at specific frame during animation transitions. Not sure will this trick workable for other bosses or not.

Never played this, but I'm guessing what happens after you pick up the red potion isn't the intended behavior. What's going on there?
It's more or less intended behavior of gravity potion. This wonderful potion allow player to make jumps at sonic speed [15 pixels per frame] during 24 frames, blank input help to maintain high speed much longer after that. Potion's effect works 899 frames, for TAS with precise sequence of inhuman jumps it's enough to completely crack whole levels. Even more! Beside high speed, there are also interesting side-effects of potion: *Tula (and Ren) able to use vertical zipping in some places. [Tula will demonstrate this glitch already in next WIP]. *Ioz is even more broken, he can jump thru close doors without having key! [It will be used in the middle of game]. However such priceless game-breaking potions are enough rare, and some of them are hidden in so far places that it is cost more time to get than benefit from usage. In my route for full game only 14 gravity potions will be collected and used. It was nightmare to test all opportunites of getting or not getting some of them.

The idea of the voting question (as it is currently) is to ask about entertainment. Optimization or publishability are determined by the judge and not by votes. The problem is that, regardless of what you ask of the viewers, they will vote their own things which will on occasion not align with the actual question being asked. That is something that cannot be changed (we tried, and basically failed). People still vote "yes for Vault" nearly three years after tiers have been introduced and the voting question changed accordingly.
Why not reform voting system, with two questions:
Q1: Should this movie be published?
*Yes
*No
*Meh
Q2: Did you find this movie entertaining? Choose intended tier:
*Moon
*Vault
*This game is crap
In this case everyone will be able to clearly express their opinion by answering these two questions.
